{12} Fight Training
***
It didn't take too long for everyone to be ready and for All Might to set everything up. The possibilities of what could happen that All Might had planned. It was clear to everyone that it was going to be fight training since All Might told them it would be. But what they would actually do was unknown to them. Would they have one on one battles? Or would they have to accomplish some kind of obstacle while fighting off another person? Hiromi dreaded to think that it would end up being like the ADA entrance exam.
The entrance exam that she had done was definitely stressful. The President wanted to see if she would have been able to handle things by herself so she got no help at all. If she wasn't able to take care of herself then it would've been difficult for her to be sent out on cases. Her entrance exam was something else, that's for sure. You see, what they did was, whenever she came into work that day, Kunikida and Dazai were gone. She was told that they had gone on a case and they haven't heard from them since. They got a voice recording from someone who had "kidnapped" them. The others acted like they weren't able to save them so Hiromi had taken it upon herself to save them. After a lot of struggling and fighting, she passed and the person who "kidnapped" them was actually Tanizaki's illusion ability.
But, anyway, from the way All Might was looking at the group, it seemed like they were about to be let in on what the training would be like. Once again, All Might stood with his hands on his hips in the classic superhero pose, "Now that you're ready, it's time for combat training."
A raised hand caught the attention of Hiromi. When she looked over, she wasn't entirely sure who was in the costume. The costume was completely made of metal which meant the helmet on the head of the student was too. It completely covered the face of whoever it was so Hiromi wasn't able to tell who it was. The voice was what gave it all away, "Sir!" It was Iida. "This is the fake city from our entrance exam. Does that mean that we'll be conducting urban battles again?"
"Not quite," All Might held up two fingers, "I'm going to move you two steps ahead," Hiromi raised an eyebrow at this. She had a feeling that this was going to be a little more interesting than she thought. "Most of the villain fights you see on the news take place outside. However, statistically speaking, run-ins with the most dastardly evildoers take place indoors. Think about it. Backroom deals," Hiromi did a case on that. "Home invasions," Very few of those, but still did it. "Secret underground lairs," Also did that. "Truly intelligent criminals stay hidden in the shadows. For this training exercise, you'll be split into teams of good guys and bad guys and fight two-on-two indoor battles. Since we have an extra, one of the teams will have one extra person."
A girl with her finger to her chin in thought spoke up, "Isn't this a little advanced?"
There was nothing stopping the slight scoff that came from Hiromi. Thankfully, no one seemed to hear it. "If they think this is advanced then they would not hold up well in the agency." This was like child's play to Hiromi. The detectives in the ADA often had times when they would battle against each other. It was hard depending on who you were paired off against, but not too hard if you could find out how to exploit weaknesses or catch them off guard. The advanced stuff would be if they went off against people in the Port Mafia or similar things.
Clenching his left hand into a fist, All Might exclaimed, "The best training is what you get on the battlefield! But remember, you can't just punch a robot this time. You're dealing with actual people now." A smirk spread across Hiromi's face. This was going to be easy. So easy that it felt a little unfair. Hiromi had years of fighting experience and everyone else here probably only had a year or a little longer than that.
"Sir, will you be the one deciding who wins?" A girl inquired. The girl had her dark hair pulled back into a ponytail and her hero costume was red with white trimming and it showed off her cleavage a bit. Her name was Yaoyarozu and she was the one who said that she knew the whole time that Aizawa was lying about expelling someone.
What someone asked next was predictable for the person who asked it, "How much can we hurt the other team?" It was Bakugou. He had a black mask on and two hair pieces that were black and orange. He had a spark in his eyes to show just how excited he was for this to go down. Hiromi shot the boy a look at his reaction, he sure had a lot of rage.
Soon enough, more people started throwing in their own questions. One by one, question after question was asked by the students for their teacher to answer. Hiromi studied All Might to see that he was starting to become a little annoyed with all the questions being thrown at him. Eventually, the man let out a growl and shouted, "I wasn't finished talking!" All Might held up a book in his hands that looked quite small in his hands. Hiromi knew that it was just because he was the one holding it. If she were to hold the book then it probably would've looked average-sized. "Listen up. The situation is this. The villains have hidden a nuclear missile somewhere in their hideout. The heroes must try to foil their plans. To do that, the good guys either have to catch the evildoers or recover the weapon. Likewise, the bad guys succeed if they protect their payload or capture the heroes," The hero picked up a yellow box that had the word "LOTS" written on it in black. "Time's limited, and we'll choose teams by drawing lots!"
This was something that made Hiromi scratch her head in thought, "Well, that's definitely a first for me." Things went entirely differently in the agency. Yes, she was mentioning the agency a lot. School was going to take a little to get used to. In the agency, the teams are thought out. The President usually paired people up who could balance each other out well. If one person lacked somewhere then they will be paired up with someone who could make up for what that person lacked and vice versa.
An example of this would be Kunikida and Dazai. Kunikida is really good at his job. He can come up with good plans and he is able to get information easier since people usually took him more seriously than Dazai. But what Kunikida lacked was because of his morals. There are some things that he wouldn't be willing to do which caused it to be hard for him to do something even if he was required to do it or if it was necessary to do it. That's where Dazai ended up coming in. Dazai would do things that Kunikida would hesitate to do.
So, for them to draw lots for this exercise made it seem a little lazy to Hiromi. Like there wasn't much thought put into it. Why pair them at random when you can compare their strength and weaknesses? You would get much better results if you thought about it that way. Pairing people at random would cause struggles for the people on the same team. Their quirks could contradict each other which would make it hard for them to get anything done.
Someone else seemed to be on the same thought process as Hiromi, "Isn't there a better way?" Iida questioned.
With a smile on his face, Midoriya stepped in to answer the question. He held up his index finger like he was about to make a point and explained, "Think about it! Pros often have to team up with heroes from other agencies on the spot, so maybe that's the reason we're seeing that here."
Oh... Hiromi never really thought about it that way. The ADA rarely ever worked with outside forces, except for the police. The police didn't really do much though. They usually did the first part of the investigation and the agency would take over. Other than that, the agency never worked with outside forces. There may be a day in the future when that would happen, but it hasn't happened yet.
"Yes, I see. Life is a random series of events," Iida bowed to All Might, "Excuse my rudeness."
All Might turned his back to the boy, "No sweat," The hero put his fist into the air, "Let's draw!"
It was a little anxiety-inducing to find out what team she would be put on. It probably wouldn't end up too bad. Hiromi drew her lot and everyone else did the same. After everyone had their lot, the teams were picked out. Hiromi ended up on a team with Uraraka and Midoriya. Midoriya looked like he was going to pass out at any moment for being too flustered. He really needed to learn how to get over being so shy.
"Wow, what are the chances?" Uraraka asked. "We're a team!" Once again, Midoriya started to freak out and blush wildly. Words were coming out of his mouth but it was hard to make any sense of them. Hiromi gave up at one point and turned her attention back to the front.
That's when she noticed that there are new boxes in front of them. One box was blackish-gray and it had the word "VILLAIN" written on it in white. The second box was white and had the word "HERO" written on it in the same blackish-gray color as the previous box. Sticking both of his hands in the boxes, All Might spoke loudly, "I declare that the first teams to fight will be... These guys!" Two balls that correspond with the color scheme of the box they came out of were pulled. The ball from the HERO box had the letter A on it while the ball from the VILLAIN box had the letter D. If Hiromi remembered correctly, team D was made up of Bakugou and Iida. "Team A will be the heroes, Team D will be the villains. Everyone else can head to the monitoring room to watch!"
"Yes, sir!"
Letting out a sigh, Hiromi slumped. She really didn't want to go first. She wanted to try and expand more on the plan she was coming up with so they could win. Glancing around, the green-haired girl noticed Midoriya glancing over worriedly at Bakugou who was glaring at him. The anxious boy looked away with a gasp. Hiromi elbowed Midoriya in the side which made him look over at her, "Don't worry about him," Midoriya looked confused for a moment. "You should use this as your chance to get back at him in some way."
As if he finally understood what she was talking about, Midoriya freaked out, "Wh-What do you mean?!"
She shot him a confused glance, "You guys obviously have some kind of bad blood or something," Anyone could tell. Bakugou had been glaring at him since the first day. He tried to attack him during the quirk assessment. He had nothing nice to say about the green-haired boy at all. "Beat him up to the point where he'll stop." That's something that Hiromi had learned from Dazai. When she was younger and they were still in the Port Mafia, Hiromi had a problem with a few of the older members being mean to her. She told him what was happening and, instead of saying he would take care of it like Chuuya would have, he told her those words. Hiromi saw it as him refusing to coddle her and telling her to stand up for herself for once and not let other people be forced to fight her battles for her.
It didn't seem like Midoriya was on the same page at all. He only stared at her with wide eyes. When she got no response, Hiromi turned to All Might who was instructing the teams on what to do, "Bad guys, you can go on it and get set up. In five minutes, the good guys will be let loose and the battle will start!"
"Yes, sir!" Everyone in team A and Iida from team D stated.
Everyone else moved outside of the battle arena to a place where they could watch. The two teams that were fighting were led to a building where they stood near the open door to the building. All Might spoke with team D, "Young Iida. Young Bakugou," The two stopped their walk to the door and turned to him. He was doing his usual pose once again, "The key to being successful in this challenge is to embody villainy," Hiromi noticed Bakugou glance over at Midoriya. It was like he was obsessed with him or something. "Think from the perspective of an evildoer."
"Got it!" Iida said.
"If things go too far, I'll step in." All Might informed them.
"Understood!" Iida said again.
With one final growl, Bakugou walked into the building with Iida. All Might handed team A a floor plan of the building before wishing them luck and leaving to go where everyone else would be watching. Hiromi looked over the floor plan along with Uraraka and Midoriya. She tried her best to at least get a general idea of the layout of the building. Uraraka seemed to have a hard time with it, "Ya think they expect us to memorize this building's floor plan? It's so big!"
"Maybe," Hiromi replied. "They probably won't require you to, but it would be pretty helpful if you did."
"Yeah..." Uraraka trailed off. "You know," She grinned. "All Might's just as cool in person as he is on television," The brunette turned to Midoriya, "I'm glad he's not threatening us with some kind of punishment like Mr. Aizawa. We can relax-" The girl cut off her sentence when she noticed Midoriya's state. She let out a yelp, "You're sweating through your costume!"
And she certainly wasn't wrong. Midoriya looked like he was ready to bolt at any moment. He was shaking like a leaf and sweat poured down his body, somehow even seeping through his hero costume. He lowered the paper in his hand that had the floor plan on it, "Uh. Well. It's just because we're up against Kacchan. Plus there's Iida, too. We should be on our guard, who knows what they'll pull."
Upon realizing that, Uraraka looked a little worried herself, "Oh, right. Bakugou. He's the one who's always making fun of you."
A sigh came from Midoriya, "And he's amazing."
This caused Hiromi to give him a look that clearly said, "I do not understand you," and he didn't seem to notice. Finally, Hiromi decided to ask him the question that was on her mind, "What kind of relationship do you guys have? I mean, he seems to really hate you, but you just keep saying nice things about him." It was like a much worse version of Kunikida and Dazai. At least they could handle each other sometimes. Bakugou looked like he wanted to kill Midoriya every time she saw him looking at the boy.
"We're childhood friends," Midoriya started. "He can be a real pain, sure. But his strength and confidence... And his ambition... Not to mention his quirk. They're all so much greater than mine," Uraraka watched Midoriya with surprise. He sat up straighter, "But that just means I have to do better," That was definitely admirable. A lot of people would be discouraged and wouldn't do anything to close the gap, but he looked determined to do it. He put on the bottom part of his mask which he had taken off earlier. "I refuse to lose today."
A grin grew on Uraraka's face once more, "So it's a fated battle between rivals?"
If you wanted to call it that. It seemed more like Midoriya was trying to become his rival and Bakugou just wanted to kill him. Flustered, Midoriya stated, "Oh, not that I'm trying to get you two wrapped up in my fight or anything."
"Are you kidding?" Uraraka stood up straight. "We're a team, right?" She punched the air with her fist, "Let's win this!"
All she was met with was a nod from Midoriya. Hiromi decided to jump straight to the point instead of waiting for them to get done with their conversation, "Well, if we want to win, it's best if we go ahead and make up some kind of plan."
"Do you already have one in mind?" Midoriya inquired.
Hiromi nodded, "Yeah, I've been thinking about it since All Might announced the teams fighting. Listen up," She stood to stand in front of the two as they leaned in closer. It was obvious that they were ready to hear any plan that might have even the slightest chance of them winning. "We're going to break off, more specifically, Midoriya is."
"Huh?" Uraraka looked confused. "But isn't it best if we take them both on with the three of us together?"
That was a question that Hiromi had been expecting. That's why she already had an answer prepared, "You'd think so, but, from what I've been able to observe, Bakugou doesn't seem like the type that's big on teamwork. I have no doubt that he probably broke off from Iida to try and come after one of us," She sent a pointed look to Midoriya, "Because of this, Midoriya could be a distraction when it comes to Bakugou since Bakugou will no doubt be coming after him. This leaves me and Uraraka to deal with Iida. But, only one of us will be dealing with Iida. Me."
"Is that a smart idea? Iida's quirk has to do with speed." Midoriya reminded her.
The green-haired girl only waved him off with a smirk, "It'll be fine. I've been in a few fights so I can handle myself pretty well," She spent her whole life fighting... That sounded a little sadder than she meant it to. "You see, I don't necessarily have to worry about actually beating him. I'm just the distraction," Hiromi turned to Uraraka, "While I'm fighting Iida, I'll be keeping his attention away from you while you recover the weapon."
"What happens if the plan falls through?" Midoriya asked.
Now that was something that she was worried about. Hiromi wasn't the type to come up with multiple different plans in case the first or second one failed. That was more Dazai's area. So, there was only one way she knew for sure how to win if the plan fell through, "Then you'll try your best to defeat Bakugou, and I'll try my best to defeat Iida."
Just then, All Might's voice sounded over the intercom, "All right! Let's begin the indoor combat training! Team A and Team D, your time starts now!"
On that signal, the three of them snuck their way into the building. Midoriya decided it would be better to go through an open window rather than the front door since it probably wouldn't make as much of a noise. The first one to go through the window was Midoriya. Once he was inside, he looked around for any kind of threat as the two girls made their way inside the building through the window.
"And just like that, we're in," Uraraka stated.
"Careful, there are a lot of blind spots," Midoriya warned them. He wasn't wrong there. The inside of the building was like a maze. If they get lost then they're most definitely screwed. The group made their way down a hallway and stuck close to the wall so they can peer around corners to see if there was anyone there. They went around multiple corners and hadn't encountered anyone yet. Finally, they did. Bakugou came jumping around a corner in front of them and blasted an explosion right at Midoriya. Hiromi's observation was correct then. Midoriya quickly moved the two girls out of the way along with himself so they could avoid the explosion. Midoriya sat up a little after hitting the ground, "You guys okay?"
"I'm fine," Uraraka replied, "Thanks!"
"Me too." Hiromi agreed.
As Uraraka came back to her senses, she noticed that half of Midoriya's mask was gone, "Oh! Deku!"
It was probably blown off by the explosion that Bakugou threw at them. Midoriya didn't seem to be too bothered about his mask being shredded, "It's just my mask."
"He's right," Hiromi spoke up. "He should be glad it wasn't his actual face." She dreaded to think what would happen if Bakugou had exploded Midoriya's face. She had seen a similar sight before on a case and it was definitely not pretty.
Gasps came from Uraraka and Midoriya as Bakugou swiped his arm to clear the dust. Hiromi only stared at the boy with a calculating look, waiting to see what his next move would be. Bakugou's gaze was on one specific person, "What's the matter, Deku? Afraid to stand up and fight me?"
"We knew you'd come at me first," Midoriya stood to his feet. "And figured you'd try to catch me by surprise."
With his hand up and ready to make another explosion, Bakugou came running at Midoriya, "I wanna hurt you so bad, they'll have to stop the fight. Just close!"
Not being the only one ready for a fight, Midoriya was ready to fight off against him as well. Midoriya was running at Bakugou and suddenly wrapped his arms around one of the gauntlets that Bakugoy's explosions were coming out of. Bakugou gasped in surprise at this, clearly not expecting Midoriya to get the jump on him like that.
"Wow!" Uraraka grinned. "Look at those moves!"
Yeah, they certainly did not have time to watch them fight. They had their own things that they needed to do. Hiromi touched the girl's arm which made the brunette look back at her, "Come on," Hiromi motioned with her head for them to leave. "It's about time we leave to find Iida."
This was something that Uraraka looked unsure about, "Are you sure that we should leave Deku like this?"
Just when Hiromi was about to reassure the girl that he would be fine, she stopped herself. She stopped herself because Midoriya said that he would be fine in his own words, "You can call me Deku, but I'm not the same helpless, defenseless kid anymore!" He yelled at Bakugou. "You hear me? I've changed. From now on, Deku is the name of a hero!"
A gasp came from Uraraka while Hiromi felt a small smile grow on her face, "I think he'll be just fine," Hiromi motioned for them to leave once more. "Let's go." The two girls broke off from Midoriya as they prepared themselves for their part in the plan that Hiromi had created. Hiromi was confident that they would be coming out of this victorious.
