Part 9 - Alex
"We're here to see Doctor Jo Davis," I say to the receptionist. In the future, the building gets left to Jo and it's just me and her here, not that it's a big place, but once the funding got pulled everyone else left.
"I'm sorry she isn't taking any visitors at the moment,"
"Did I hear somebody say my name?" Jo walks out from the side hall smiling and holding some folders.
"I'm sorry mam I tried to tell them- "
"That I wasn't taking visitors? Nonsense I never get visitors, this is an adventure for everyone," she stops at the desk and hands off the folders, then gestures for us to follow her to a sitting area off in the other hallway.
"So, how can I help you?"
"Well, what if, hypothetically, we may or may not be in some sort of time loop?" I say flipping the watch over and over in my hoodie pocket.
"I would say 'Can I meet the genius who invented a way for you to time travel in the first place?'" she says with a small laugh that turns off as she takes in our serious faces.
"Really? Actual time travel? That's awesome!"
"Well according to my understanding, you invented it," Cas says matter-of-factly. I pull out the watch and pass it over to her. "This is what I used to get here,"
"You time-traveled here? What about your past, or well-, current self?" she says examining the watch closely.
"This body is mine from this time. I'm not sure what happens to my other consciousness. I came here to save Cas from getting shot. Which is supposed to happen in a couple of hours,"
"So, what's the issue?" she says still engrossed in the watch.
"I remembered yesterday. Liked I dreamed it before or something," Cas says wringing his hands like he doesn't know what to do with them.
"And I remembered the conversation I had with, well you before I traveled back here," I say. At that, she quickly hands back the watch and wipes her hands on her coat.
"You're stuck in more of a paradox than a time loop. You would both willingly go back in time to save the other from dying. But when you do, you die, causing the other to pursue time travel and go back and- well you get the idea. One of you dying is a fixed moment in time,"
"So... how do we stop it?" I say pocketing the watch.
"You have to destroy the watch. Preferably in a black hole or a wormhole of some sort," she says nodding to herself.
"So, we're stuck like this? Cuz last I checked, we just got proof black holes existed and wormholes aren't proven!" Cas says throwing his hands up.
"Well, no one has had access to something existing in the wrong time now, have they. I assume that device has some sort of liquid in it? If I take that and add your DNA to it, I might be able to make a little one,"
"Then what?" I ask.
"Then everything should reset itself to normal, it might even go as far as to make sure you never mess with time travel again,"
"And it'll work?" Cas asks leaning forward.
"For your sake, I sure hope so."
