Louis took Odin , Chess and Rocco out of their cages , he brought them outside , "Line ."

The three dogs moved to line up one next to the other . Louis clicked the clicker in his hand without saying anything , smiling as the dogs sat down as they continued watching him .

Louis took the harnesses and moved forward , he kneeled in front of Rocco and put him in a harness , he kissed the dog lovingly and gave him a treat , moving to Chess , and then to Odin .

He took a picture of the three and sent it to Harry , my babies all ready for a nice walk :D

Louis put his jacket on , his phone , money and clicker in his pockets , he took leashes with him as he started walking with the three dogs following .

He pulled his phone out of his pocket when Harry texted him back , smiling at his text .

cute . call me for anything , baby . kiss the pups for me 

He loved that Harry loved the dogs too , it always warmed his heart .

Louis waved to some guards on the way out of the gates , he kept the clicker in his hand as he started walking down the street with the dogs .

"Rocco ." Louis clicked his clicker as they stopped at a crossroad , Rocco moved closer and pressed to the side of Louis' leg , Louis smiled and petted him .

They crossed the road , moving through the people down the streets . Louis stopped at a small shop to buy himself a drink and a brownie , sitting down to text Niall a bit .

He looked up when Odin , who was sitting on the ground next to him , suddenly stood up with Rocco and Chess following .

He put his phone away , alerted , seeing two guys talking to each other while pointing to the dogs . He kept quiet and tried listening , though they were a bit far away and the noise from the streets muffled out their talk .

He stood up and threw his trash away , clicking the clicker , "Pups ." The three dogs followed Louis as he started walking in the opposite direction from the two men . Louis pulled his phone out of his pocket , calling Harry .

"Hey baby ."

"Hey . I think I need a lift ."

"Where are you . Text me your location ."

"I can't stay in one spot , I need to keep moving ." Louis looked down to make sure his dogs were with him . "I'm heading towards Sunshine Cafe , I'll be there in three minutes or so ."

"I'm sending guards your way . I'll meet you at the Cafe . Don't let anyone touch you or the pups ."

"Okay ." Louis said before they hung up . 

Odin suddenly turned around and let out a bark , one that Louis knew was a warning bark . He turned around to see that the two men were now stood close to them . "Can I help you ?"

"How much for the dogs ?" One asked as he blew out smoke .

"They're not for sale ." Louis said . "If you touch any of them you'll regret it ." He shook his head and clicked his clicker , "Pups ."

Rocco moved closer to Louis , though Odin didn't seem to listen , only stood his ground between Louis and the men , growling . Chess was following Odin's steps , moving to stand beside him .

Louis clicked his clicker again , "Odin . Chess ."

The next minute was a blur ;

One of the men pulled out a gun from his jacket , Odin didn't think twice before he attacked the man , biting his arm . The man shot a bullet before letting go of the gun , falling to the floor with Odin ontop of him .

The second man moved forward as he reached into his jacket , Chess and Rocco jumped him .

Louis fell to the ground from the bullet grazing the side of his thigh , crying out in pain . 

Louis looked up in horror as the second man struggled under Rocco and Chess , shooting a few bullets out and managing to throw Chess off of him .

Chess fell to the ground with a cry and tried to stumble away , though fell on his side motionless .

Louis felt his breath stuck in his throat ; he ignored Odin locking his teeth at the man's neck , ignored Rocco biting down on the man's arm that was holding the gun .

His heart raced in his chest as tears gathered in his eyes . "No . N-No . No . No ." He held his leg as he stood up wobbly , limping to where Chess was laying on the ground . He sobbed as he fell to his knees next to Chess , covering his face at the sight of Chess covered in blood motionless .

Two black Range Rovers pulled over next to them , guards jumped out of the Rovers with their guns held up . 

A third Range Rover , Harry's Rover , stopped with a screech near them , Harry jumped out of the driver's seat and raced over to them with Victor and Liam following .

"Fuck ." Liam took in the sight , heart squeezing in his chest at the sound of Louis' heart-wrenching sobs .

One man was laying dead as Odin still bit at his neck , the second man barely tried to struggle against Rocco , his arm messed up from Rocco's teeth and strong tugs .

Harry breathed in as he walked closer , he kneeled next to Louis and wrapped his arms around him , "I'm here baby . I'm here ." He whispered to him , "I'm so sorry . I'm so sorry baby ." He gave him a squeeze , only then noticing that Louis was injured .

"Baby ." Harry pulled him a bit away from Chess' body , he cradled him to his chest , "You got injured . We'll go to the hospital ."

Harry looked up at Liam , Liam's eyes were glossy with tears yet he nodded his head , "Go . I'll take care of it ."

Harry then looked at Victor , Victor nodded at him , "Go . We got this ."

Zayn silently cleaned Louis up and stitched the wound , Louis was still crying quietly , thinking back to what happened . Harry sat on the hospital bed in front of Louis , his hand was on Louis' waist to try and comfort him even just a bit .

Louis held Harry's arm , wiping his tears and sniffling . Harry couldn't take his eyes off him .

Zayn placed a pad over the stitches and put his stuff away , he took his latex gloves off and threw them in the trash , before returning to Louis and gathering him in a hug . He pressed a kiss to the side of his head and moved back , leaving the room and closing the door behind him .

Harry covered Louis with the blanket to keep him warm , Louis took a deep breath in and rubbed his eyes to get rid of the tears .

"Th-This is the day I was most afraid of ." Louis managed to say , his voice was quiet and broken .

"I know baby . I'm sorry we didn't get there earlier ."

Louis shook his head , "Not your fault . I sh-should've forcefully pulled them away , try to buy more time ."

"Those men had guns , baby . You were unarmed . Don't blame yourself , either ."

Fresh tears gathered in Louis' eyes , he sniffled , "I can't believe I won't s-see my pup again ."

Harry leaned in and pulled Louis into a hug , holding him close . Louis buried his face in Harry's shoulder as he cried , grabbing Harry's shirt in his fists .

Harry brought Louis back to the office building , he helped him out of the passenger's seat and helped him walk with a hand on the small of his back .

Louis used the crutch he was given , feeling his chest tightening and eyes stinging as he went into the dogs' pavilion . He went through the lounge area and to the long corridor of cells of the dogs .

He stood still , his hand covering his tear-filled eyes at the thought of seeing Chess' empty cell . He sniffled and moved his hand off , deciding it was too soon as he turned back around and walked into the lounge .

"Wh-Where's Odin and Rocco ?" Louis asked as he was back next to Harry .

Harry put his arm around him and kissed his temple , "Still with Liam . He's showering them to get rid of the blood ."

Louis nodded , he leaned into Harry for a bit longer , a heavy sigh leaving his lips . Harry held him tighter and kissed the top of his head .

"Baby ."

Louis looked up , Harry looked into his eyes . "Are you ready to tell me what happened there ?"

Harry took Louis up to his office for privacy . Louis sat at the round table while Harry made him a cup of tea , he brought the cup to the table along with a chocolate bar , one of Louis' favourites .

Louis told him what happened , Harry listened silently , his hand rubbing Louis' back to comfort him .

"I will deal with anyone related to them ." Harry promised him . "I'm giving you my word - I will haunt them all down and make them pay ."

Louis buried himself in Harry's chest , "I want to be part of this too ." He whispered .

Harry squeezed him , "I'll make sure of this ."

There was a knock on the office door , Harry kissed Louis' cheek and stood up from the chair , going to open the door .

Louis whimpered as Liam walked into the room with Odin and Rocco , he took the leashes off them and let them run over to Louis .

Louis leaned down to hug his dogs , smiling a bit as they stood on their hind paws and licked his cheeks and nuzzled him . He kissed their heads and petted them , "My pups . I love you so much . Thank god you're both okay ." He sniffled as tears filled his eyes again .

Louis then looked up , catching Liam's eyes . He stood up from the chair and took his crutch , walking over to Liam . Liam walked over to him and wrapped him in a hug , they squeezed each other tightly for a bit before pulling back .

"He was such a good pup ." Liam smiled at Louis through glossy eyes , Louis smiled and let out a choked laugh , "He w-was . He was m-my pride and joy ." 

"We'll make sure he gets an honoured burial ." Liam promised , "He deserves nothing less ."

Louis nodded and wiped his eyes , Liam kissed his forehead and moved back to leave the office , Harry patted him on the back and squeezed his shoulder before he left .

"I'm so tired , but there's no way I can fall asleep ." Louis huffed , Harry walked closer and put his hands on his waist , "Go change into comfy clothes , the pups and I will give you cuddles ."

Louis went to the secret room and changed , Harry followed and changed aswell , Louis got into bed first to make himself comfortable on his side with the stitched leg up , Harry sat next to him and brought Louis to his chest .

Odin and Rocco joined the couple , Odin curled up behind Louis while Rocco laid at Harry's other side . Louis reached his hand out to pet Rocco , smiling as Rocco licked his hand .

"Try to get a bit of sleep . I'll leave soon to catch up in the investigation ." Harry kissed the top of his head .

Louis looked up at him , "Stay for a bit after I fall asleep , please ?"

"I always do ." Harry leaned in to kiss him gently .

Louis woke up two hours later to Harry gone , he was tucked under the blankets , Rocco and Odin were still in bed with him .

He sighed out and reached his hand out to pet Odin , who moved around the bed to lay in front of him , while Rocco moved to lay at his feet .

He reached out and grabbed his phone from the nightstand , seeing a text from Harry , and a dozen of texts from Niall . He answered Harry's text and let him know that he was awake , then called Niall .

They had a long conversation ; Louis cried some more , Niall let him babble out . They talked about Chess , Louis shared his favourite moments with him .

After his talk with Niall he put his phone down and closed his eyes ; crying was exhausting . He fell asleep for a bit longer , and woke up to Harry getting back in bed with him , laying behind him .

"Hey baby ." Harry wrapped him up in a hug , Louis held onto his arms , "Hey ."

"Did sleeping help you ?"

"Yeah . I was so tired ." Louis sighed softly . "I talked to Nialler a bit , told him a lot about Chess ."

"Hm ." Harry hummed into his shoulder . "You know what's my most memorable moment of Chess ?"

"What ?" Louis asked , already smiling .

"The first time he parkoured off a tree , as a puppy ."

Louis let out a light laugh , "Oh , he was adorable , flopping around and then charging at the tree again ."

Harry smiled at Louis' laugh , even if it was faint . He kissed Louis' shoulder , "He was such a good pup ."

Louis stayed quiet , Harry held him tighter , "He will forever be remembered ."
