Chapter 8
TW: Arguing
Virgil smiled as he walked to college, holding Damien's hand and walking beside him. They were talking about Remy. Virgil wanted to meet him. Damien didn't want them to meet. He was afraid. He had no idea what it was what he felt for Remy. He didn't want them to meet until the figured it out. Virgil listened to Damien's rambling, not really looking at him as they crossed the road. "He seems nice." He hummed, glancing at Damien and noticing something weird. There was something but he couldn't really tell what it was.
Damien swung their hands lightly. A small smile formed on his lips. "Yeah... he is," he said quietly, not realizing the light blush on his cheeks.
However, Virgil frowned, looking at his boyfriend. "Dee?" he asked, almost inaudibly as they reached the stone benches by the entrance to the building. Damien hummed in response, glancing at him. "Are you... blushing?" His voice broke mid-sentence as he let go of Damien's hand, taking the tiniest step back. He couldn't believe his own thoughts- he didn't want to. There was no way... Damien wouldn't do that to him... right?
Damien froze in his tracks. "Uh... no?" he said, frowning lightly. But his eyes betrayed him. "Why would I be?" he asked, sounding confused.
Virgil didn't want to believe it. But Damien... he always seemed so lovestruck whenever he spoke about him or he was even mentioned. He felt his heartbreak right then and there. Damien liked someone else. "You like him..." he mumbled, almost inaudibly as it hit him like a truck. "You like him!" he nearly shouted.
Damien stepped back. "Wh- what?" he asked, this time, genuinely confused. "I-"
"Don't." Virgil hissed. "Don't lie. Don't even try." His voice was loud and low. His tone was almost threatening. Damien didn't dare speak for a few seconds. "You know what? If you like him so much, why don't you go be happy with him?"
Damien frowned. No. That couldn't be happening. He couldn't be losing Virgil over a stupid infatuation. Virgil turned to walk away and enter the building. Damien reached out and grabbed his wrist. "Virgil, I don't-"
Virgil angrily snatched his wrist from Damien's grasp. "Stop lying!" he yelled, storming inside the university.
"Virgil!" Damien called, but he was already gone. Great. He sighed and ran a hand through his curls. He frowned as his phone started ringing. He checked the ID and closed his eyes. The timing couldn't have been worse. "Hello..." he answered.
Remy frowned lightly at Damien's tone... that was unusual. Maybe he was still not okay from whatever happened to him after the meeting... "Are you coming?" he asked softly, walking back to the elevator from his office, carrying the two cups of coffee from Starbucks.
Damien bit his lip and forced a smile. "I- yeah, I am," he said. He wasn't sure if he was, but hey... life goes on... especially since he wasn't feeling as heartbroken as he should be.
Remy frowned, walking out of the building and back on his steps. He and Damien had been talking the night before and Damien had told him that he was going to walk to work and drop Virgil off, so he was probably between the university and the office. "Are you okay?" he asked, walking towards the university.
"Yeah..." Damien sighed. The office was so close and he still couldn't bring himself to go. He wasn't sure if he wanted to see Remy.
Remy bit his lip, crossing the road and almost getting hit by a car. Asshole. "Where are you?" he asked. He was almost at the university... maybe he was rushing out of worry for his boss-slash-crush.
"Not important, I'll be there in two minutes," he said, hearing the braking of a car on the other side of the call. He frowned. "Where are you?" he asked, confused.
"Office," Remy simply said.
Damien raised an eyebrow. "You're lying," he said. He knew that Remy hadn't been in the office since the call started.
"M'not," he said, taking a turn and seeing Damien. He was in a crowd, so Damien couldn't see him- God, he sounded like a stalker.
"Okay, I'm on my way." He hung up and sat on one of the benches, running a hand through his hair and letting out a sigh. He hid his face in his hands, not noticing someone walking over to him.
"Yup, you're not okay." Damien looked up and saw Remy, looking down at him with a sympathetic smile. He noticed that he wasn't wearing his sunglasses nor his usual outfit. He wore a black shirt and blue jeans that looked oh so good on him.
Damien frowned lightly and looked away. "What are you doing here?" he asked, fiddling with the sleeves of his coat.
"Here," Remy said, handing him the coffee he'd gotten for him. "I got it for you on my way to work, that's why I wondered where you were... I didn't really know what you liked, so I got you this... I hope it's-"
"Thank you, Remy... it's great." Damien forced a small smile, looking down at the cup.
Remy sat beside him, looking at him worriedly. "What happened?" he asked. Damien shook his head and shrugged as if trying to avoid the question. As if Remy was going to drop the subject. "You're here... and it's 8:10 am..." he said, checking the time on his phone. "Is it about Virgil?" Damien sighed, nodding quietly. "What happened?" he asked softly.
"We broke up... or, well... he broke up with me," Damien said, glancing at Remy. Why was he telling Remy all that? Why did he have to feel that way towards Remy?
"Why? I thought you two were good..." Remy said quietly. He didn't want to push Damien. They didn't really know each other that well outside of work other than their deep conversations on his first two days of work.
Damien scoffed. "Yeah... me too..." If only you knew, Remy... he thought. He bit his lip. "Remy... I should probably tell you why he... broke up with me... in case something ever happens with his father," he said. Great. Nervousness grew in his chest within a split second. "I- uh... I like you... like... a lot-"
He was cut by Remy kissing him softly. He barely had any time to process what was going on before he melted into the kiss. Okay, he was dreaming. It was the only explanation for what was happening. He just needed to wake up and he'd be in bed with Virgil sleeping peacefully... but, did he want to wake up? He wasn't too sure.
Remy pulled back after a moment, looking at him. Damien's eyes fluttered open again and he bit his lip, unaware of how much he was blushing. Remy chuckled. "I like you, too, Damien." He smiled, looking at Damien and gently brushing some hair out of the other's face.
Damien blinked and blushed even darker. "Y- you do?" If any of his clients saw him then, they wouldn't recognize him.
Remy laughed, cupping his cheeks and pecking his lips. "Of course! Why is that so hard to believe? Just look at yourself," he said, smiling at his blush. "So that's what all the blushing when you were around me was about..." he muttered, smirking and raising an eyebrow.
Damien looked down. "Was it that obvious?" he asked sheepishly.
Remy made him look up so their eyes could meet. "A bit, but it was really cute." He smiled, kissing him softly.
