The car ride to the restaurant was quiet, with only the radio playing some pop station quietly.
Malory hated it, but said nothing. As much as she tried not to, she felt guilty for upsetting her sister. Which, was why after Harley getting in the drivers seat and starting the car without saying anything and glaring at the steering wheel, Malory apologized and submitted to the plan that Harley had suggested.
But Harley still was her sensitive self, so after accepting the apology, she was still quiet.
At the small café that was inhabited by too many hipsters for normal people to feel comfortable, the sisters sat. One with a fat-free, soy, gluten-free pumpkin, double shot vanilla latte with almonds and whipped cream, and one with black coffee, with a basket of biscuits between them.
Malory looked confused as the younger slathered a biscuit half with orange marmalade, then another, and another, and another, and so on.
"So, what do you mean you broke?" Harley asked in a polite inquisitive tone, taking a bite of one of her eight biscuit halves.
"I, um. I broke. Up here." Malory poorly attempted to begin to explain, tapping her forehead.
Harley frowned and tilted her head, to which Mal sighed.
"I developed a phobia. Which I got medications for. The medications messed me up more."
"Okay..." the younger sister began skeptically.
"What phobia, and how did the meds mess you up, exactly?"
Malory sighed heavily, for a long while, and hung her head.
"It's irrational, so I'll save you the supposed phobia. But the medications caused a lack of a desire to eat, depression, anxiety, one is addictive, and amnesia, occasionally." She listed everything she could remember, with an expression that just conveyed that she was one-hundred percent done.
Harley's eyebrow was raised, and her mouth ever so slightly open in surprise.
"What are the medications for?"
"Insomnia, depression, and lack of appetite."
"Where did the insomnia come from?"
"The phobia."
"What's the phobia?"
"It sounds stupid."
"You're stupid."
"...Harley. Think about what you just said."
"Well if it's bad enough to cause all that garbage then I don't think it's stupid!" She suddenly exclaimed, raising her arms in exasperation, and accidentally throwing a biscuit half back as she did. She glanced back the direction it was flung, then back at Malory with a determined expression.
The older sister sighed heavily and took a couple chugs of her coffee.
"Promise to not laugh."
"Of course! This is clearly serious!"
"The fear of infinity."
Harley laughed.
