Chapter 100
A/N: This is the final chapter of "Don't Let Me Go". Thank you all for reading, and please read the note at the end!
Krystal's day was significantly better after her long rest. The rejuvenating sleep had done wonders for her mood. She decided to revisit the food stall she had been to the previous night with Taehyung, craving the same delicious dishes. She ordered quite a bit, prompting the owner's surprise.
The owner commented, "Are you going to finish all of this, Ms?"
Krystal turned her head to answer when a man suddenly sat down in front of her. They both glanced at him, and the owner left, smiling. Taemin cleaned her chopsticks for her, a gesture she didn't appreciate. She pushed his hand away, and the chopsticks fell.
Annoyed, she asked, "What are you doing here?"
Taemin simply smiled, not answering her question. Krystal realized that he must have seen her with Taehyung last night and used that knowledge to track her down. She shivered, feeling trapped.
"What do you want?" she asked, her patience wearing thin.
Taemin's smile widened. "You're becoming more like her."
Krystal pushed his hand away again. "If you want someone like her, you can easily find someone else and dress her the same. With your power and position now, many women would be willing to do that. Why are you bothering me?"
"I don't want anyone else," Taemin replied, his smile unwavering. "I only want you."
Krystal couldn't bear Taemin's presence any longer; his smile had become utterly terrifying to her. She lost her appetite and decided it was time to leave. As she stood up to make her escape, Taemin remained seated, his gaze fixed downwards.
As she hurried to her car and sped away, Taemin's words echoed in her mind: "I will never let you go, Krystal." The sheer possessiveness in his tone chilled her to the bone.
Driving home, she couldn't shake the fear that Taemin's obsession with her was far from over. She massaged her temples, trying to calm her racing thoughts. Her phone rang, and she glanced at the screen, seeing Taehyung's name. In her anxious state, she hung up without answering.
Krystal knew that Taemin was not driven by love but rather by an unsettling desire to possess her. She feared for Taehyung's safety, understanding that Taemin's warning was directed at her, and she resolved to keep her distance from him to protect those she cared about.
Krystal seethed with anger, but she was painfully aware of her lack of power in the face of Taemin's relentless pursuit. She felt trapped, unable to see any way to break free.
Throughout the day, Taehyung was occupied with various responsibilities, finally finding a moment to call Krystal. However, her abrupt hang-up left him unsettled, and he found himself fixated on his phone until Jimin offered a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
Despite their diligent efforts, they were still unable to locate Joo Hyuk. Taehyung's focus sharpened as he suggested driving to their next destination, a two-hour journey. Jimin concurred, his thoughts drifting to the potential outcome of their search. There were moments when he wished he could simply forget about Joo Hyuk, considering him useless. Even during their grandmother's funeral, Joo Hyuk had failed to make an appearance, disappearing from Seoul for the past two years. Yet, he remained the only son of their late grandmother, making it difficult to simply abandon him. Jimin was determined to methodically resolve the issues within the Park family, one by one.
Jimin had already tracked down the man seen leaving with his mother, Ae Ra. Their conversation had revealed that his feelings for her had been purely platonic. His wife had been aware of their close friendship, and the revelation of his connection to Ae Ra had stirred deep emotions within him.
Upon arriving at their destination, they were greeted by an individual, "Mr Park, Mr Kim?" signaling the beginning of what could be a significant encounter.
Jimin nodded.
"Please follow me," the attendant said, leading Jimin and Taehyung through the facility.
Jimin glanced around, recognizing that they were in a rehabilitation center for drug addicts. His expression darkened, but he remained silent, focusing on the task at hand. The attendant continued with an explanation, revealing that he had been admitted a few months ago. He had been discovered in a pitiful state on the side of the road, behaving aggressively and attacking passersby, which led to his involvement with the police.
Eventually, they reached a room. It was a secure space, designed to prevent the patient from escaping. Jimin peered through the small, fenced windows, his gaze falling upon a man lying on the bed. The man's back was turned towards the door, making it impossible for Jimin to confirm if it was indeed Park Joo Hyuk. The man appeared emaciated, quite unlike the muscular Joo Hyuk they remembered.
The attendant shared further details about Joo Hyuk's behavior, mentioning a recent incident where he had attempted to escape and even harmed himself by trying to cut his wrist.
Jimin reassured the attendant, "It's okay, please open the door."
After consulting with the rehabilitation center's supervisor, the attendant nodded and used a card to unlock the iron door. "We'll be right outside. If you need any assistance, don't hesitate to call."
Jimin and Taehyung exchanged glances before entering the room, preparing to confront the enigmatic and troubled figure who might be Park Joo Hyuk.
"Uncle Park?" Taehyung cautiously addressed the man, confirming that it was indeed Park Joo Hyuk. However, Jimin remained cold and distant, merely observing.
Joo Hyuk lay there in silence, unresponsive to their presence. Taehyung struggled to find a suitable topic to initiate a conversation but couldn't come up with anything.
Jimin finally broke the silence, instructing Taehyung, "Taehyung, take care of the administration. I will bring him home today."
"Okay, President Park," Taehyung acknowledged before exiting the room.
Jimin moved closer, positioning himself in front of Joo Hyuk. Slowly, Joo Hyuk raised his head, his gaze devoid of emotion. In just two short years, he had aged considerably. His hair had turned gray, wrinkles marred his face, and he had lost a significant amount of weight.
"Park Joo Hyuk," Jimin said bitterly, "sometimes I really despise you."
Joo Hyuk remained silent, his vacant stare directed at Jimin.
Jimin's words were like a torrent of emotion, each sentence a sharp blade cutting through the years of disappointment and abandonment. His voice, initially filled with frustration, was now laden with a deep, lingering sadness.
"What have you ever done for me?" he questioned, his voice tinged with the aching desire for a father's affection. "I can't remember a single moment when you were there for me. Have you ever once regarded me as your son? Growing up, I felt like an outsider in my own family, robbed of the warmth and care a father should provide."
As he spoke, Jimin's eyes seemed to reflect a lifetime of longing. "Since I was a child, you never showed me any fatherly love. Even when Grandpa passed away, instead of being there for me in my grief, you thrust the responsibilities of the company onto my shoulders. I was just a teenager. Did you really believe I was ready for that? It happened because of your incompetence. You groomed me solely to be an heir, neglecting the emotional support I needed."
"I tried so hard to earn your approval, to make you proud, but it was never enough. I wanted a father, not just a business partner. I wanted to hear words of encouragement and love, not just discussions about the company's profits. You missed out on so much of my life because you couldn't let go of the past. And now, look at you, a broken man, haunted by your own demons."
His voice trembled slightly, betraying the deep wounds that had festered for years. "If Mother were here, perhaps she would have filled the void you left. But you, you lived trapped in the shallow memory of her. I thought your love for her was genuine, but it was just an empty echo of what it should have been. You clung to a belief in her betrayal, tarnishing her memory and your own."
Jimin's eyes, once filled with sadness, now burned with anger. "Grandma is gone, and you didn't even have the decency to attend her funeral. You dishonored the woman who raised you as a son. Were you even aware she had passed? She died on the very day you fled the hospital. I heard you tried to end your own life, was it hurt? Joonie and I endured two years of unimaginable hardship while you sought refuge in drugs."
With each word, Jimin's resolve grew firmer. "I've thoroughly investigated, and I can say with absolute certainty that Mother never betrayed you. I'm here now to reclaim you, not for your sake, but in honor of Grandma and Grandpa's memory. They wouldn't want their son to suffer this abandonment. However, this is your final chance. If you refuse, I will sever all ties, and you will no longer bear the name Park."
Jimin's words hung heavy in the room, a testament to the years of pain and neglect that had marred their relationship.
Joo Hyuk's agony was palpable, and his sobs echoed in the room as Jimin's words continued to pierce through his consciousness. His hands, bound to the bed rails, trembled as he pleaded for relief. "G-Give me..."
Jimin, well aware of the torment of withdrawal, watched silently. He understood that Joo Hyuk needed to endure this pain without the crutch of tranquilizers. It was a necessary step toward recovery, one that demanded the strength of his own willpower.
When the doctor and nurse moved to administer a tranquilizer, Jimin intervened firmly. "No need."
He had made up his mind to bring his father home, where there would be no tranquilizers. Here, Joo Hyuk would have to rely on his own determination to overcome his addiction.
As the medical team left, Jimin pulled up a chair and sat down, lighting a cigarette. He observed his father's suffering with a sense of detachment. The room filled with the sounds of Joo Hyuk's pain and the muffled sobs behind the towel placed in his mouth.
After some time, the room fell silent again, except for the heavy breathing of the man on the bed. Jimin extinguished his cigarette and approached Joo Hyuk. Gently, he removed the towel from his father's mouth and used a tissue to wipe away the sweat that had accumulated on his pale face.
Joo Hyuk's body was drenched in sweat, his face pallid, and his eyes vacant. Taehyung, who had returned after handling the administrative matters, was taken aback by the sight of Joo Hyuk's condition.
Jimin explained calmly, "He's going through withdrawal."
As the withdrawal symptoms gradually subsided, Joo Hyuk's gaze turned toward Jimin. He nodded when Jimin asked if he wanted to go home.
Taehyung couldn't help but feel emotional. He had expected Joo Hyuk to resist coming home, but to his surprise, he agreed. Jimin instructed Taehyung to call for assistance to prepare Joo Hyuk for the journey and to book their tickets for that afternoon.
Y/N received a call from Jimin, who informed her that they had located Joo Hyuk and would be arriving at the airport in the afternoon. She immediately headed to the airport to pick them up, leaving Joon Min behind as she knew the airport could be quite crowded at this time.
As the clock approached 6 PM, Y/N anxiously scanned the arrivals area, looking for Jimin and his father. When they finally emerged from the crowd, she was taken aback by Joo Hyuk's appearance. He seemed frail and weak, leaning on Taehyung for support. This man is Park Joo Hyuk?
Although Jimin had given her a brief overview of the challenges he had faced over the past two years, seeing Joo Hyuk in this state was still a shock. She greeted him warmly, "Dad, you're back."
Joo Hyuk gazed at the woman before him and offered a slight nod.
Y/N, concerned for his well-being, said, "Are you tired? Let's get you home."
Again, he nodded in agreement.
Jimin, who had taken the passenger seat in Y/N's car, added, "Let's take him home first, and then we can go pick up Joonie."
Y/N continued to drive, glancing at the rear-view mirror from time to time. Joo Hyuk, however, seemed lost in thought, his gaze fixed on the passing scenery outside. It had been a considerable amount of time since he had last set foot in Seoul.
She broke the silence, her voice gentle and reassuring, "Dad, we'll take you home first. Auntie Wang is there, and she's prepared some food for you. You can eat while Jimin and I go pick up Joonie."
Joo Hyuk finally spoke, his voice tinged with confusion, "Are we going to the Park residence?" He couldn't help but wonder why they were heading in a different direction. The house held decades of memories for him, and he felt a sense of attachment to it.
Y/N's response was tinged with sadness, "They've taken possession of the house. We don't live there anymore."
This news clearly disappointed him, but he simply nodded in acknowledgment.
She offered a glimmer of hope, "Jimin has another house here." She understood the sentiment attached to the Park residence. It wasn't just a house; it was a repository of their family's history and shared experiences. She shared in his disappointment, having experienced the pain of being pushed out herself. Yet, she was resolute that they would reclaim their rightful place.
After they sent Joo Hyuk to Jimin's house and ensured that Auntie Wang would take care of him, they proceeded to the Song residence to pick up Joon Min.
"I thought Dad would refuse to come with you."
"I thought so too." Jimin admitted.
Y/N brightened at the thought, "It's good that he's here now. Let's take him to see Grandma tomorrow."
Jimin nodded, understanding that the reunion would be significant for both Joo Hyuk and her family. She added, "Don't be sad. He will recover."
Jimin appreciated her words and felt a surge of gratitude. He took her hand, their fingers entwining.
"Oh right, I've tidied up things."
"What things?"
"My things."
Confusion briefly flashed across Jimin's face, but then he realized what she meant. His eyes softened with a smile. "Will you move in?"
Y/N's heart fluttered at the question. She replied, "Em, as a girlfriend, can I?"
Jimin's smile grew wider, and he leaned over to kiss her hand. "Welcome."
Joo Hyuk couldn't help but feel heartbroken when he met Joon Min. His only grandson, who used to be lively and obedient, now seemed so different. He didn't say anything to him, but he was grateful that Joon Min didn't hide from him and even allowed Joo Hyuk to carry and hug him.
Considering Joo Hyuk's current condition and the possibility of withdrawal symptoms, it was best for him to have a quiet space to recover. More importantly, they needed to ensure that he wouldn't experience withdrawal around Joon Min. So, they decided he would stay in the guest area. However, Jimin didn't want his father to be alone, so he arranged for two people to look after him and provide care.
After making sure Joon Min was asleep, Y/N went to Jimin's room. She found Jimin sitting on the sofa, smoking. She frowned at his addiction and gently took the cigarette from him. "It's not good for you."
Jimin sighed, acknowledging the truth. "I know. But sometimes, it's effective at numbing feelings. I think I'm addicted to it."
Y/N looked at Jimin with a mixture of concern and sadness. She picked up the box of cigarettes and decisively tossed it into the trash. "You should stop smoking from now on."
Jimin turned his head to look at her.
She cleared her throat, a playful smile on her lips. "Smoking is not good for your health, and it's definitely not good for a baby..."
Jimin's eyes widened in surprise. "You're pregnant?" He thought about it for a moment, then shook his head. "It hasn't even been a week since I touched you. Even if I am too competent at making babies, it can't be detected this soon..."
Y/N blushed deeply. "No, I am not!" She stammered. "I was talking about our future baby!"
Jimin chuckled and pulled her into his lap. "Oh, in the future..." He nodded in understanding. "But I don't want you to get pregnant this soon."
Y/N looked puzzled. "Why?"
She had been thinking about giving Joon Min a sibling.
Jimin placed his chin on her shoulder, his voice soft. "Because I had a hard time when you were pregnant. I couldn't touch you in the first trimester, and I had to be cautious when I touched you after. I only just got to fully enjoy it after two years. How could I turn into a Buddhist monk again..."
Y/N placed her hand over his mouth to stop him from saying more provocative things. "Park Jimin, what do you think about all day?"
Jimin, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "You. My mind is full of you."
She rolled her eyes playfully. "Who doesn't know that you're always thinking about that?"
Jimin laughed softly. "Then why did you ask?"
Jimin stood up, carrying her in his arms. He preferred holding her like this, her legs wrapped around his waist, feeling her close to him.
"Aren't you tired? You just got back," Y/N sighed as she fell onto the soft bed.
Jimin, his expression serious, suddenly brought up a topic. "Your ex-boyfriend..."
Y/N raised an eyebrow. "When did I ever have a boyfriend?"
"That doctor," Jimin clarified.
Y/N thought for a moment. "Hoseok?"
"You even remember his name, and you still say he wasn't your boyfriend?"
Y/N was becoming increasingly frustrated with Jimin. "Park Jimin, what kind of logic do you have? You make things up just to be jealous! If I remember a man's name, does that automatically make him my boyfriend? Are you out of your mind?"
She continued, exasperated, "It was a blind date, my mom's friend tried to set us up!"
Jimin snorted. "Who said I'm jealous? I'm just worried about your taste. If you want to go into matchmaking, you should've picked a better one. How could he satisfy you?"
Y/N glared at him. "Park Jimin, do you think everyone is like you?"
Jimin smirked. "That's right, I am special. How can they compare themselves to me?"
"..."
Y/N didn't want to entertain this topic, but Jimin pressed her shoulders down onto the mattress.
"Let me tell you, a man like him would last ten minutes at most," he said with a mischievous grin.
"Park Jimin, enough!" Y/N protested.
Jimin smiled innocently and gently caressed her face. "So, you need to find a husband like me, understand?"
"You mean a husband like you who is experienced, right?" Y/N retorted.
Jimin began to undo her shirt buttons while still grinning. "There are some things that need to be self-taught. Not everyone's the same."
Y/N rolled her eyes at his shamelessness.
Jimin's fingers traced her chin, and she could feel his warm breath against her face. It made her blush, and a slight shiver ran down her neck as his lips met her skin. The cool kisses he left caused chills to shoot across her body. Then, abruptly, he stopped.
"What are you looking for?" Y/N asked as he rummaged through a drawer.
"Condom," Jimin replied, getting up from her and checking the whole drawer.
Jimin suddenly felt a burning gaze and turned his head to find the furious woman on the bed. He cleared his throat.
"I just moved in tonight, and you have been out of town since we got back from Singapore. When did you prepare condoms here? Who were you using them with?" she demanded, her anger palpable.
Jimin frowned, feeling completely wronged. "What are you talking about? I bought it to use with you!"
"We weren't together before!" Y/N protested, still skeptical.
"You came here every day to take care of Joonie, didn't you? I bought them just in case!" Jimin defended himself.
Y/N pointed at the drawer. "Then where is it? Why isn't it in the drawer, or did you already use them?"
"What?" Jimin frowned. "I probably put it somewhere. Okay, then I'm just going to pull out this time."
Y/N knew that he didn't want her to get pregnant soon. She wrapped her arms around his neck. "Park Jimin, perhaps I'm already pregnant now," she said teasingly.
His body went stiff. She stared at him with her innocent eyes, clearly pleased with his defeated face. "Remember when you touched me that night? I wasn't on the pill."
His face dropped, recalling that night. "Shit..."
"So, do you think I am pregnant now?"
"Yes."
"Then doesn't it mean your suffering starts now?" Y/N grabbed his chin and looked him in the eyes while grinning.
Y/N thought he would give up, but the next thing she knew, he pushed her shoulder down the mattress. He grabbed both of her hands and put them above her head.
"Since you're pregnant, I won't be worried about getting you pregnant then. I can fuck you raw and don't have to pull out, right, Y/N?"
Y/N was speechless. She really underestimated his shamelessness.
