Chapter 8
It's been over a week now. A week sitting alone in your room. A week watching Rita boss the staff around for fun. A week without Hiccup...
Your eyes snapped open at the sound of a hurried rapping on your door. Jumping out of bed, you pulled on a sweater, opening the door, and stepping out into the hallway. There was no one there, however looking down, you spotted a crumpled piece of parchment laying at your feet. Picking it up, you closed your door again, lighting a candle, and sitting down on your bed.
It read:
Dear (Y/N),
Meet me on the roof tonight at 9:00, I have something to tell you,
Hiccup
You scoffed, throwing the paper across your room, and laying down on your bed with a loud sigh. Should you really trust him? After what he did to you? Though, you knew it was only fair to let him explain himself, so you slipped on some shoes, and quietly left your room.
Hiccup was sitting at the edge of the roof, his feet dangling off the end, staring off into space.
"Hey, Hiccup," your voice was weak. He turned around, smiling when he saw you, and patted the spot next to him. You sat, leaving a generous amount of space between you. "So, what did you want to tell me Hiccup?"
Hiccup took a deep breath.
"Listen... about the other night... I'm really sorry."
"Really? That's all you're going to say?"
"Let me finish!" You fell silent, setting your hands in your lap. "Listen..." But he stopped, his voice cracking. You looked over, and to your surprise, you saw he was crying.
"H-Hiccup?" You awkwardly put a hand on his shoulder. "You okay?" Even though it was a stupid question, you didn't know what else to say.
You stayed like that for a while, finally pulling your arm back when Hiccup grew quiet, and started to wipe his face.
"I'm so weak. I promised myself I would never let you see me cry..." Your eyes widened, and you wore a half-hearted smile.
"You don't need to seem strong all the time you know." Hiccup chuckled slightly.
"I try, for you." Your neck became hot, and the heat spread up your face, stopping only when your ears were a red that could only be described as strawberry red.
"So, what's the deal? What did you want to ask me?" You asked hurriedly, scooting away a little farther.
"Okay, well, as you probably know, Rita and I are engaged... but I wanted you to know, it was against my better judgment."
"What?"
"Well, it's going to sound crazy, but Rita has liked me, ever since we first met!" You burst into laughter.
"ARE YOU SERIOUS HICCUP?" He stared at you puzzled, until you recovered from your laughing attack, wiping your eyes and sitting back up. "You're telling me, you didn't get even the slightest impression that she liked you? Not even a little?" He shook his head. "Wow... okay, well, continue."
"I know I probably didn't make the best decision as chief, but I didn't know what else to do! Rita, she's... taken over."
"What do you mean "Taken over"?"
"I mean, I, the chief, have lost control of my own village! I'm a sorry excuse for a leader..."
"You're a great leader Hiccup? Your father made the right choice when putting you in charge."
"No, you don't understand (Y/N)."
"Hiccup? What do you mean?"
"I mean, you don't realize how bad the situation is!"
"Just tell me then!"
"Rita.. she's..."
"Yeah?"
"She's... Drago's granddaughter."
