Chapter 6
Ok, I know I haven't updated in forever, but school has just started, and I'm still getting used to the new schedule. Updates will be much slower, because I've decided to do track in school this year, which takes up a lot of my free time. I will mostly be updating on the weekends (with few exceptions). Well, enjoy~
"Hey Rita..." you greeted unenthusiastically. Hiccup gave a curt nod, smiling cutely. "I didn't know you would be here..."
"Yeah, Your father invited me- such a nice man." She smirked. You faked a smile, dragging Hiccup away.
The music echoed throughout the room, and you and Hiccup started the first dance. Every girl was glaring daggers at you- including Rita.
They knew you were engaged to Hiccup, and they hated you for it. It was for that reason you had no friends around the village- well, not counting Astrid (but you didn't know if you were actually friends or not).
You and Hiccup stopped dancing for a while, exhausted. You remembered the first party you had here, all those years ago. Before you and Hiccup were even dating, you had your first kiss with him. Smiling, you thought about the beautiful scenery that night. The sun was just beginning to rise, and Hiccup had given you your birthday present- a dagger. Then, he kissed you, and you had never felt so alive.
"(Y/N)!" Hiccup called, snapping you out of your thoughts. He sat down next to you, handing you a mug. "It's just juice," he assured you, as you hesitated, before taking a small sip, your eyes immediately lighting up.
"This is so good!" Hiccup swooped in, landing a quick kiss on your lips.
"You're so adorable (Y/N), you know that?" You glared at him, playfully swatting his arm.
"No I'm not!" He chuckled.
"Whatever you say."
"Hey, can I show you something?" You asked him.
"Sure."
"Okay, close your eyes."
"What?"
"Close them!" Hiccup closed his eyes, raising an eyebrow. You grabbed his arm, pulling him out of the room, though the hall, and out into the cold night air. Hiccups eyes remained closed, and you pulled him a bit further, before coming to a stop.
"Can I open my eyes now?"
"Yes." He opened his eyes, and widened them in surprise. You were standing on the same balcony you had first kissed each other on. "You remember this place?" You asked, taking his hand in your own. He caressed your cheek with his free hand.
"Of course I remember." He whispered, smiling softly. "This was where I first kissed, you. We were only friends then."
"Well, I'm glad you did," you told him honestly. "I might not have realized my feelings for you in time."
Hiccup leaned in closer and closer until you could feel his warm breath on your lips.
"I'm glad too."
Just then, the door banged open, and you and Hiccup jumped apart, blushing. A short, stout man appeared in the doorway, panting.
"Um, chief, did I interrupt?"
"Oh, no, no." Hiccup, said quickly, clearing his throat. "Not at all."
"Okay, well, the new guest has requested your presence right away."
Rita...
"Yes, of course." The man left hurriedly, and Hiccup turned to you, pecking your cheek.
"I'm sorry (Y/N)."
"No, it's fine." You said, doing your best to hide your disappointment.
You and Hiccup walked back inside, and you sat down as he went over to Rita, not wanting to see her again. She was probably planning to steal him for the rest of the evening, leaving you to sit around, doing nothing. Or, perhaps she was hoping you would leave early. Whichever it was, you weren't about to let her win.
However, you raised an eyebrow as her and Hiccup exited the room, chatting quietly.
You waited for a while, about to get up and leave, when the front entrance swung open, an Hiccup stepped forward, Rita trailing behind. He opened his mouth, preparing to speak, his face solemn.
"I have an announcement to make." His voice cracked slightly, but he cleared his throat again, continuing. "From this moment forward, Rita Styrdottir and I are officially engaged." Rita smirked, and Hiccup bowed his head, showing no emotion. "That is all."
