Loxy eventually stumbled back into the clearing, walking up next to Clarke to find her drawing a map. "I suppose this is for Mount Weather?" She asked, admiring the map laid out before her.
"Yep. We need to make it there before nightfall. If we focus we can do it." Clarke mumbled, distracted by her tools she was using.
Footsteps sounded behind them and Loxy spun around to meet Wells's troubled eyes. "We got problems. The communication system is dead." He started, growing more frustrated by the second.
"Did you check the solar panels on the roof?" Loxy questioned him, folding her arms.
"Yeah. A dozen panels are missing. Heat fried the wires." Wells answered her, his eyes trailing to the blonde-headed girl behind her that was too caught up in her own work.
Loxy purses her lips together in a thin, tight line. "Doesn't matter," she shook her head vigorously. "What matters right now is getting to Mount Weather."
"She's right," Clarke spoke up, her head snapping up to look at Wells. "This is us," she gestured to a point on her map. "And this," she spoke as she drew a straight line, "is where we need to get to survive."
Loxy nodded her head, impressed by Clarke's well constructed map. Wells seemed to agree, asking, "Where'd you learn to do that?"
Clarke didn't reply, instead she gave him a sideways glance filled with anger. Confused by the sudden tension, she furrowed her eyebrows. "Your father..." Wells trailed off.
Another boy, one wearing goggles Loxy recognized from the drop ship, approached them. He peered over Clarke's shoulder before chuckling lightly. "Ah, cool. A map. Can I get a bar in this town I'll buy you a beer."
His weak attempt to flirt caused Loxy to let out a short laugh. Wells didn't seem as amused, however, as he walked towards him and made goggle boy cower back. "You mind?"
"Hands off him. He's with us," a third voice growled with hostility. Loxy recognized him as John Murphy, a well-known criminal back on the Ark. He already had a fairly large group of followers backing him up.
"Relax," Wells began slowly, growing uneasy. "We're just trying to figure out where we are."
"We're on the ground," Loxy was shocked to see Bellamy joining in on the argument, Octavia standing next to him, looking displeased. "That not good enough for you?"
Wells took a deep breath before taking a few steps forward to address to Bellamy. Clarke instantly latched onto Loxy's forearm, pulling her forward. "You heard my father's message. We have to get to Mount Weather, that's our first priority."
"Screw your father!" Octavia cut in. "You think you're in charge here?" She snarled, eyeing Wells with hatred. "You and...your little princess?" She was talking about Clarke, but Loxy couldn't help but notice that Octavia was shooting daggers at her instead.
"Do you think we care who's in charge?" Clarke exclaimed, causing Loxy to groan softly. She knew Clarke well, and she knew this meant it was time for another famous inspirational speech. "We need to get to Mount Weather. Not because the Chancellor said so, but, because the longer we wait, the hungrier we'll get and the harder this'll be."
"Clarke—" Loxy tried to intervene, grabbing onto her arm. Clarke moved away from her touch, ignoring her.
"How much longer do you think we'll last without those supplies? We're looking at a twenty mile trek, okay? So if we want to get there before dark we need to leave." She said, emphasizing the word 'leave'.
Loxy shoved her hands in the pockets of her red leather coat, steadily becoming more impatient. Fighting wasn't going to get them anywhere, and neither Clark, Wells, Octavia, or Bellamy was helping.
"I got a better idea," Bellamy growled in a low voice. "You two go. Find it for us. Let the privileged do the hard work for a change." A murmur of agreement slowly rose within the growing crowd.
"You're not listening!" Wells shouted in frustration. "We all need to go!"
Murphy strolled past Loxy and shoved Wells teasingly. "Look at this everybody! Chancellor of Earth." He mocked, earning a few laughs from his group of boys.
"Think that's funny?" Wells said with a taunting smile.
Immediately the two broke out into a fight, everyone standing back and observing. Clarke tried to break up the two but was held back by one of the dark skinned boys who was with Murphy.
Loxy let out a short sigh, deciding that she's had enough childish behavior for one day. "Stop it!" She shouted, walking forward to the two. The moment she felt hands on her shoulders she whirled around and kneed the guy in the stomach. After that no one else stopped her as she stepped between the two.
Her blazing green eyes landed on Wells, acknowledging his limp leg. She moved so that Murphy could see the injury as well. "He's got only one leg to work with here. Why don't you wait until it's a fair fight?"
"You think I'm gonna listen to you?" Murphy sneered, getting closer to her but Loxy held her ground. "What if I don't?"
Loxy didn't wait to raise her fist and punch him square in the jaw. "That'll happen." She hissed at him, stepping away from the two and back to Clarke.
"Since no one else wants to focus on their own survival and just wants to prance around all day, we should just go. We're wasting daylight by standing around and arguing like reckless teenagers." Loxy spoke directly to Clarke, but loud enough so everyone could hear.
"You're right," she uttered in agreement before stooping down to check Wells's leg.
"So, Mount Weather, when do we leave?" Finn popped in, casually walking up to stand next to Loxy. He was looking at Clarke but Loxy replied to him.
"Right now. You, Clarke, and those two," she gestured to goggle boy and his friend. "You guys go. Wells and I will stay back and keep an eye on Murphy and Bellamy."
"Good plan. Four of us should be able to do." Finn nodded approvingly.
"Sounds like a party!" Octavia cheered, clapping her hands together. "Make it five."
Bellamy reached out and placed his hand on her arm. "Hey, what the hell are you doing?" His voice was uneasy, and his two eyes became tiny slits as he waiting for his sister to answer.
"Relax. She's just going for a walk." Loxy defended her. Bellamy's eyes darted to her, fury shining in them. "There's nothing wrong with that."
"Hey!" Clarke exclaimed, grabbing Finn's wrist and examining the long scratch marks on his band. "Were you trying to take this off?" She demanded.
"Yeah. So?" Finn challenged, but with a smirk on his face.
"So. This thing transmits your vital signs to the Ark. Take it off and they'll think your dead." Clarke explained.
Loxy couldn't help but notice Bellamy shifting next to her, his eyes deep in thought. Surely this was putting him up to something.
"Should I care?" Finn fired back, cocking an eyebrow.
"Well, I don't know. Do you want the people you love to think you're dead? Do you want them to follow you down here in two months because they won't if they think we're dying." Clarke pressed on.
Loxy uneasily grabbed Clarke, stopping her before she could give Bellamy anymore information. "Come on. You guys should get moving."
"You're not going?" Bellamy questioned her, a hint of mockery in his tone.
"Nope. Someone's gotta stay behind and make sure you or Murphy doesn't do anything stupid." She retorted, looking away from him and giving Clarke a nod.
"Okay. Let's go." Clarke told the others, allowing them to turn and leave in the direction away from the clearing.
Octavia glanced at Bellamy, waiting for his consent. "Go on," he told her with a sign of reluctance. With a quick kiss on the cheek, Octavia raced after Finn. Looks like she found herself a boy toy for entertainment.
Clarke began to follow them, stopping to turn and face Wells, who was still resting against the drop ship wall. "You shouldn't have come here, Wells," she deadpanned before turning and leaving with the others.
"Woah." Loxy breathed, taking a seat next to him. "What was that all about? You two don't exactly seem like you're best friends right now."
"It's complicated," Wells muttered, his eyes watching her go. "Her father was executed three months ago. And it's because of me." Loxy knew from his dreaded voice that it wasn't true, but she didn't feel like prompting him for an answer at the moment.
"Well I'll stay out of it. How about you and me go collect some firewood for tonight? Considering no one else seems to be in the mood to work other than to put up the tents." Loxy pointed her chin at the group of kids attempting to build one of the tents and failing miserably.
Wells stayed quiet for a moment before obliging, getting to his feet before limping into the undergrowth with her.
~
Loxy huddled the firewood close to her chest, dropping it in the pile Wells had formed. Her nose wrinkled in disgust when she noticed Murphy and one of his followers approached them.
"Found any water yet?" He asked, sending Loxy a smirk she wanted to wipe off his smug face. She didn't respond, seeing as it was Murphy, but Wells didn't notice.
"No, but..." he trailed off as he looked up and met eyes with him. "Going back out if you want to come." Loxy followed his gaze to see writing on the wall.
First son. First to dye.
Loxy suppressed a laugh as she noticed his obvious spelling mistake. She looked back to see Murphy holding a twisted piece of metal from the drop ship which had become a makeshift knife.
"You know my father, he begged for mercy in the airlock chamber when your father floated him." Murphy growled to Wells.
Loxy stepped forward, looking into Murphy's eyes with a strong sense of hatred. "Don't credit Wells for something his father did. And you talk such big game but you clearly can't write as well your big mouth can speak. Spelled die wrong, genius." She shoved past him, hitting his shoulder as she walked by.
Wells followed close behind her, his eyes lightening up a bit. "When did you become such a badass, Loxy?"
Loxy faced him with a grin on her face. "I've always been a badass. I thought you could see that, Wells." She lightly punching him in the arm before splitting off with him to go rest against the drop ship wall.
She could hear Bellamy approaching Murphy and Mbege, not seeming to happy. "If you're gonna kill someone it's probably best not to announce."
Murphy just let out a dry laugh, facing Bellamy head on. "You're not really a member of the guard, are you?"
"No, but the real guard will come down here soon unless we stop it." Bellamy paused, continuing when he realized they were waiting. "You don't actually think they're going to forgive for your crimes?"
Loxy scoffed, crossing her arms. She knew exactly what he was doing, just as she predicted. She waited for him to finish his speech, which ended with him convincing the two to take off their wristbands.
As Bellamy began pacing away from them, she scrambled to her feet, rushing after him. "Hey!" She shouted, grabbing onto his arm and holding him back.
He jerked away from her, whirling around to glower at her. "You know you've really got some nerve, Red." He growled.
Loxy raised an eyebrow. "Red? And where did you get that fun little nickname?" She followed his eyes to realize he was looking at her bright red leather jacket. "Clever."
Suddenly, she reached out and grabbed him again, pulling him closer. "I know exactly what you're doing."
"Oh yeah?" Bellamy quipped, a tiny smirk forming on his lips. "What am I doing?"
"Saving your own ass. What did you do that's gonna get you killed when they come down?" She demanded, removing her hand from his arm.
"You're smart, Red. But I'm not telling you anything."
Loxy let out a humorless laugh. "Fine. You don't have to. I'll find out on my own."
It was Bellamy's turn to laugh as he backed up a few paces. "I don't think you will. Besides, I still have to figure you out myself." Loxy waited for him to go on. "Don't think I haven't heard the rumors about you. Experiments? Torture? Who are you?"
Loxy didn't let her guard down. Not even for a second. He was wanting a reaction from her, proof that the rumors were true. She wasn't going to give it to him. "You're smart, Amy. But I'm not telling you anything."
"I wouldn't call me that if I were you." He warned, but it had no effect on Loxy.
"No. I think it'll stick well." She answered before stalking off, feeling his eyes burning into her back.
~
Nightfall was upon them now, and Loxy had just finished checking the bodies of the two boys who died in the landing with Wells. "What's all the fuss about?" She commented as the two stepped off the drop ship and headed towards the fire.
She looked on in horror as Murphy pried off one of the wristbands that belonged to a redhead girl before tossing it in the fire. They all cheered, including her, as she joined the group of people who had already taken there's off.
"Who's next?" Bellamy hollered out, looking at the hundred with eagerness.
"What the hell are you doing?" Wells snarled menacingly. Loxy quickly rushed to his side, ready to throw sarcastic comments Bellamy's way.
"We're liberating ourselves." Bellamy replied as he held back Mbege, who was staring at Wells hungrily. "What does it look like?"
"It looks like you're trying to get us all killed." Loxy cut in, sending fierce glares at him.
"She's right." Wells nodded, glancing at her. "This wristbands are all we have left. The communication system is dead. If we take them off the Ark will think we're dying!" Wells addressed to the crowd, beginning to sound like Clarke.
"That's the point, Chancellor. We can take care of ourselves. Can't we?" Bellamy raised his voice, smiling in triumph as the entire hundred shouting back in agreement.
"This isn't just some game." Loxy roared, her patience becoming very small. "Those aren't just your friends and your parents up there. They're our farmers, doctors." She tried not to trip on the word doctors. "Besides, if it really is save down here, how could you not want the rest of your people to come down?"
Bellamy shook his head, looking at Loxy with distaste. "You don't get it, do you, Red? My people, are already down here. Those people, locked my people up. Those people, killed my mother for committing the crime of having a second child. Your father did that," he added to Wells.
Loxy slowly began walking towards, Bellamy, her face growing redder and hotter by the second. She was losing control, which definitely wasn't a good sign. "His father didn't write the laws. And don't act like you're the only one who's parents were killed."
Bellamy waited a moment. "No. His father didn't write the laws." He muttered, ignoring her second comment. "He enforced them. But not here. Here, there are no laws. Here, we do whatever the hell we want, whenever the hell we want." An uproar had slowly started to rise in the crowd.
"Now, you don't even have to like it, Red. You could even try to stop it. Kill me."
"Oh you can bet I'm gonna kill you! Under your leadership you're going to get us all killed. No society has ever survived living off of 'whatever the hell we want'. But don't worry, Amy. I won't stop it just yet. I'll let your realize your own mistake!" She hollered, and that's when she lost it. The fire suddenly roared to life, extending several feet into the air.
Everyone jumped back in alarm. Everyone except Loxy and Bellamy, who were having a stare down. It suddenly broke when rain began pouring from the sky. The two looked up and allowed the water to run down their face.
Loxy was grateful for it, letting the water cool down her temper. Hopefully nobody saw the fire as something she did. If anyone were to find the truth out about her, they'd kill her on the spot.
"We need to collect this," Wells said to no one in particular.
Bellamy turned to him, simply saying, "Whatever the hell you want."
