Chapter 26
Elena
"Baby A is out mom and dad and we have a girl, mom and dad!" My doctor holds up my daughter for Stefan and I to see, she's whimpering and covered in amniotic fluid, but so damn beautiful. "A girl, Stefan we have a daughter!" I begin to cry at the sight of her, Stefan has tears in his eyes as he cuts the umbilical cord. "Time of birth, 4:09 Am, Alright Elena, I need one more big push and you'll get to meet baby B." Stefan grips my hand and I take a deep breath before looking at the nurses who are weighing and measuring my daughter. I lean up and give it all I've got, I push and yell out. A cry pierce's the room and now we have two crying babies that I brought into the world. "And we have baby B, a little boy mom and dad, 4:12 AM time of birth." I break down into more tears and start sobbing, a girl and a boy. The perfect set of twins. Stefan kisses my head and takes the surgical scissors to cut the cord, a daughter and a son I am in awe. "We did it baby, they're here and they're healthy." Stefan whispers against my lips tenderly. "They're so beautiful." I whisper back to him, I push the last placenta out and lay back in the hospital bed exhausted. "Are you ready to meet your babies' Mr. and Mrs. Salvatore?" I open my tired eyes and see two tiny babies being held by two nurses. "Yes." We answer at the same time, the nurse hands Stefan our beautiful creations and i sit up with worry as he has the two of them in his arms, but my strong tattooed husband holds them like a pro and is shedding his own tears. Damn it melts my heart to watch him hold our little loves. I love seeing this side of Stefan and I know these two Salvatore's have completed him, they're his second chance in the world and he's going to make one hell of a father. I'll never doubt him in his parenting, he's just that amazing.
"My heart is finally complete, I've never seen babies that are more beautiful than these two right here." I nod my head, I knew it. I know him better than anyone. Our babies are the most beautiful babies I've ever laid my eyes on as well, don't get me wrong my niece is very gorgeous, but when you see your own baby or babies for the first time... they make other babies pale in comparison. Stefan carefully sits beside me on the bed and it's just us and our babies in our own little bubble, they both have a head full of hair that is dark brown. I can see that they have my nose and Stefan's lips, and my son has his dad's jawline whereas my girl has mine. Half of each of us rolled into flesh and blood, they are too perfect for words, it's amazing how I can already see us in them and they're not even thirty minutes old. Stefan places them carefully into my arms one at a time, "We did this." I choke on my words as I say them, my emotions are crazy and I couldn't be any happier. Stefan clears his throat as he rubs his thumb across our daughter's soft rose petal like cheek, "The best part of me is you and now I have two of you right here." I begin to cry again, people don't know this Stefan like I do and if they did they too would be in love with him. He says all the right things and means every word he says, he's insanely perfect for me and I couldn't be any happier than I am right now. "Alright mom and dad ready to show off your son and daughter before we head down to the nursery?" I give them each a kiss whispering how much I love them, Stefan stands from the bed kissing me on the lips once again. "I'll be back soon baby, get some rest." I nod my head at his promise and watch my family leave the room. Once they're out of my sight and the door closes, so do my eyes with a smile on my face.
Stefan
Elena and I had decided that it would be just the two of us in the delivery room, since birthing twins is tricky and sometimes dangerous we didn't want any extra excitement. We hadn't planned on waking up everyone at 11:00 last night to meet us at the hospital, but here we are at close to 5. Caroline and Matt had just gotten into their hotel 45 minutes prior to our phone call, they not only decided to come up for the birth of the twins, but are scoping out apartments. Damon and Bonnie were asleep downstairs in our apartment when I rushed down to their room when Elena's water broke. I was freaking the hell out on the inside and Damon could see it when I jolted him awake though I calmly said that the babies were on the way. Elena's due date was 5 days away and everyone had flown in last night, Bonnie and Caroline were going to help Elena set up the last little details in the nursery before their arrival and well i think my wife's excitement caused her to go into labor early. As we round the corner I see everyone's sleepless forms start to rise up, smiles break out on their faces as they rush over to see us. The girls of course are crying, Matt has Tyler on Face Time since he wasn't able to make it up here just yet and Damon is shaking his head with a smirk on his face. "Congrats brother, they're perfect." He tells me and I laugh tiredly. "Yeah they are, but what do we have?" Tyler asks chuckling on the video chat.
Elena wanted the genders to be unknown, so we had bought everything neutral and it killed me not know my babies' sex, but since I'm not a woman who carries the children or delivers them, I agreed. Their bedding is done in white and gray and the car seats are dark gray with light gray trimming. Caroline had bought car seat covers for them, one pink and purple, the other blue and green. She had said all along that they were a boy and girl. I clear my throat and look down at my twins, "We have Katerina Elise Salvatore and Mason Louis Salvatore. Katerina was out first and weighs 5 pound and 10 ounces, she's 19 and a half inches long. Mason weighs 6 pounds 13 ounces and is 20 and a half inches long." Elena's mom is French and Bulgarian, but was raised in new Orleans with more French ways, so we gave them French middle names. Since Elena got to decide that they gender was to be unknown, I got to decide that we keep their names unknown until they were born too. "Stefan, they're beautiful! And I knew that they would be a boy and girl." Caroline silently squeals, Bonnie is crying to much to say anything because she believed all along that we were going to have two girls. "Yeah they are, Elena did an amazing job. She never gave up and never gave into the pain, I can't believe she didn't have the epidural." Bonnie coughs with wide eyes, "No epidural?" I shake my head no, "They were going to give it to her, but by the time the anesthesiologist came into the room she was already too dilated to get it." Caroline sighs, "Damn that girl is tougher than fucking nails." I nod looking down at my squirming babies, "Well I have to take them down to the nursery, but you all can follow us down there." After taking about a million pictures and videos we make our way to the room Elena has been moved to. I open the door, she's shoving French fries in her mouth and we all start laughing. "Hey you try pushing out two babies at 4 AM after not eating since 7 last night and see how hungry you are." I join her on the bed and kiss her greasy mouth. "Feeling ok?" Caroline asks with a teary smile, Elena lays back on the bed and a smile spreads across her face. "Very sore, but I'm good. Just happy to have my babies here and happy they're healthy."
Bonnie gives her a hug and kisses her cheek, "Congratulations mama, they're perfect in every way." She nods her head before tearing up again, I take her hand into mine and lay a kiss to her wedding rings. "Thank you for giving me a family." Elena smiles tiredly and blinks away her tears, "Thank you for helping me create our family."
5 YEARS LATER
Stefan
Another 5 years have passed and this time I've spent them with the ones I love. Elena and I have created a beautiful family, Kat and Mason turned 5 back in September and now that Christmas is tomorrow we our second daughter Noelle Jolie Salvatore turns 3, yep we have a Christmas baby. Back in July of this year we had our third daughter Fallon Lynnette Salvatore and she's 6 months old as of today the 24th of December. It's safe to say that we decided to have a big family and the only guys in the house are me and my little dude Mason. God help us because I'm not sure if we're done having kids and if we aren't then I can only hope the next one is a boy. My wife loves being pregnant and I love her having my children, we of course love making them too. Elena and Caroline went into business together and have made quite a name for themselves in the modeling industry. Caroline announced her first pregnancy a few weeks after the twins were born, a year later my wife and her best friend were building their own modeling company for expecting mothers. Bonnie invested in them after she finished school and now is a maternity clothes designer, the three of them have truly found their passions. I have 3 branches of my company now and Damon runs one in Mississippi, while Tyler has the other one across town from his. Matt decided to do all of the construction for us and he is now a well known contractor in NYC now. We have all settled down completely and have families of our own, Tyler and Liv got back together two years ago and they have a son due in March. Damon and Bonnie had two more kids, Aryana is 2 while Dean is 4 months old, Caroline and Matt had twins as well 2 years ago. After they laughed at Elena and I for being exhausted and not knowing what to do with two babies at one time, they got their payback with Ellis and Waylan. Ric has come up here to visit us a few times, but he's mainly too busy travelling now that he's gotten out of the bail bonding business.
Now that I look at my family decorating our home for Christmas I know that everything in the past lead us to where we are now. We had great times, sad ones, heart breaking ones and even hateful ones.. but we made it. Sure I would go back in time to change a few things if I could, I wouldn't have done anything for Enzo that's for damn sure. Elena wouldn't have been alone the night she was beat and lost the baby, I would have been there for her and we would have our first child with us now. Like I said everything happens for a reason and I learned along the way to not take anything for granted. "Alright y'all the decorations are done." Elena calls out, I join her and our kids in the living room, picking Fallon up from the play pen on my way over to where the kids are standing by the Christmas tree. "Daddy is Santa going to bring me a pony?" Elena looks at me with a raised brow before looking at our child, "Kat where would we put a pony?" She asks our 5 year old who is clearly looking forward to Santa bringing her what she wants the most. I clear my throat looking down to Noelle, she giggles and reaches into the pocket of my jeans. "Here mama." She says so sweetly in her tiny voice, Elena sits Mason down on the floor and holds out her hand. "Daddy said Santa came early just for you." He says before joining me at my side with a smirk on his face. Noelle drops the present in Elena's hand, "House keys?" She looks up to me and I shrug. "Santa came early, he said that our kids wanted a place to put a pony, a four wheeler, and a power wheels riding car and he knew that you wouldn't agree to those gifts unless we had a big house with a lot of yard space."
Elena smiles and walks to me giving me one hell of a kiss, "Don't let me go." I kiss her deeper remembering that I not only have a room full of kids looking at us but a 5 month old in my arms, "Never."
