Yoongi slams the door shut causing Hoseok to jump before he whirled around and placed a hand against his chest, feeling his racing heartbeat. He threateningly points the spatula in Yoongi's direction.
"What the fuck was that? You trying to scare my soul out of my body?"
But when he sees the frown marring Yoongi's features, he immediately softens.
"Are you okay?"
"Is Jungkook home?" Yoongi growls instead.
"What?"
"Is Jungkook home?"
"I— No, he said he would visit the library."
"My fucking foot."
"Yoongi!"
"I got a call from Seokjin. Said he saw Jungkook at the bar. Kid's drunk as fuck."
Hoseok frowns.
"What?"
"Exactly what you heard. Don't tell me to calm down, that boy has gone and done it. First off, he's sixteen! He's at a bar and he's drunk as fuck. So don't tell me to calm down."
Hoseok bites his lower lip.
"Okay. I won't. I know you're upset. I am too—"
He's cut off by a knock at the door. Yoongi pulls it by the handle to be greeted by Seokjin holding an extremely wasted Jungkook.
"Dad!" Jungkook smiles and falls onto Yoongi, who grips him under the arms to make sure he doesn't fall before he pulls him away from the entrance and into their living room.
"Thanks for bringing him home," Hoseok says and Seokjin nods slowly.
"Anytime, Hob-ah. I know you would have done the same if it were Taehyung. I was surprised to see him there. Take care of him, yeah? I know you both are upset but maybe just hear what he has to say."
"We will," Hobi promises, with a small smile before he waves goodbye to Jin, shutting the door gently behind him.
When he enters the living room, Yoongi's expression is filled with pure rage while Jungkook seems completely oblivious to it. Hoseok's fingers wrap themselves around Yoongi's arm in a manner of comfort, asking him to calm down before his eyes take in Jungkook's state.
"We'll talk about this tomorrow when we all are in a much better state of mind to have this discussion," Hoseok states firmly.
Yoongi seems like he's about to protest but Hoseok stops him.
"You won't achieve anything by scolding him when he's this drunk. He isn't aware of his surroundings neither will he pay any attention to your words. Also, you are too angry right now and in your anger you may say things you don't mean. So it's better we speak of this tomorrow when Jungkook isn't drunk and you aren't this mad, alright?"
Yoongi sighs but agrees nonetheless. Hoseok's right though, he is extremely mad at the teen's behaviour as he storms out of the living room not sparing a glance Jungkook's way. Hoseok sighs before he kneels beside Jungkook, eyes examining the teen to make sure he isn't injured.
"I'm a fuck up," Jungkook whispers so softly that Hoseok almost didn't catch it.
Almost.
"Come again?"
Jungkook's blood shot eyes meet Hoseok's.
"Me," he slurs, pointing to himself, "equals a screw up."
He smiles then, but it's pained. Hoseok sees the slight tremble in the teen's bottom lip.
"You're not a screw up," Hoseok protests, fingers curling around Jungkook's hand.
"Big screw up," Jungkook argues, thumping his chest and Hoseok immediately stops him.
"You'll hurt yourself," he scolds lightly.
"Deserve it," Jungkook says immediately.
Hoseok stares at him.
"Kookie, that's not true. You're not a screw up and you don't deserve to hurt yourself."
Hoseok's heart aches when tears slide down Jungkook's cheeks. He can see the pain in the younger's eyes.
"Why would you say such things, baby?" asks Hoseok as he thumbs away the tears that linger on his cheeks.
"Scared," Jungkook whispers and Hoseok remembers the old days when Jungkook was a toddler who'd climb into their shared bed when he had nightmares.
"Oh baby," Hoseok whispers back, brushing the hair out of his forehead before he places a light kiss to it, "What are you afraid of?"
Jungkook seems to have a hard time putting his feelings into words especially at the extremely hazy state his mind is currently in.
"Failing."
"Failing your exam?" Hoseok asks, hand on Jungkook's knee and his heart clenches when Jungkook nods, fresh tears brimming in his eyes.
"So hard."
"I know it is, baby—"
"Too much. Everything. Heavy," Jungkook chokes, struggling to let it out and Hoseok immediately pulls him into a hug.
"We'll talk tomorrow, okay? If you need to cry it out, you can. I'm here, darling. I've got you, okay. Appa's got you, kookie."
That's all it takes. Jungkook bawls, harsh heartbroken sobs wracking his frame. Hoseok finds himself tearing up. He can never bear seeing his two favourite people cry. It's just too painful for him. He cradles Jungkook's head, whispering soft words of comfort. At some point, Jungkook exhausts himself with the amount of crying he does and peacefully embraces sleep.
