Twenty Three
Roman POV
I kept knocking on Virgil's door hoping that he would answer me. I've been here for a minutes now. I could feel tears rolling down my cheeks.
Virgil!" I screamed again, pounding on the door. I needed him to answer. I needed to see him to know he was okay.
Seeing all those bruises on him really puts it into perspective on how much those pills destroy him. It honestly hurt seeing Virgil so hurt. Having to hear that Thomas was taking those pills again made me furious with him.
"VIRGIL PLEASE ANSWER ME!" I yelled, I felt a rage and fear inside me I've never felt before. I couldn't loose Virgil. I couldn't stand to loose Virgil. I can't loose him.
I love him so fucking much that his pain causes me pain. I need to help him. I was about to yell for him again when I heard the lock click.
"Roman...help me..." I heard Virgil say. His voice sounded pained. Fear filled me.
I quickly grabbed the doorknob and pushed the door open. I could only open the door a few inches. I could see Virgil's feet so I knew he was there.
I pushed the door open forcibly. Once it was open wide enough, I pushed myself into the room. I quickly knelt down besides Virgil.
"Roman..." He whispered.
"I'm here Virgil...it's okay...I'm here." I said while pulling him into my lap. I held his hand tightly. He was digging his finger nails into my hand.
Both of us were sobbing. I pulled Virgil farther into my lap. He was completely limp. I rocked back and forth, holding him tightly.
"I can't breath..." Said Virgil, barely more than a whisper.
"Take deep breaths. I'm right here." I told him.
"I can't feel my legs...or my arms..." He muttered. I could barely hear him at this point. A furious rage filled me towards Thomas. How dare he hurt Virgil like this. Even if it wasn't intentionally, he still should've known better.
"Just hold on Virgil. Onto anything. Don't leave me. It's going to be okay." I whispered to him. I planted kisses on his head and whispered other sweet nothings while Virgil calmed down.
"Roman..." Virgil whispered again.
"Yeah?" He didn't say anything, he just closed his eyes. "Virgil?" I said, feeling panicky. He didn't respond.
"Virgil?" I said again, louder this time. His hand twitched slightly. His eyes opened again and this time they weren't glassy.
"Oh thank god." I whispered, relief washing over me. I hugged him tightly. Virgil slowly started moving.
He seemed exhausted and his breathing was still shallow. I was crying in relief now. The hardest part of it was over at least.
I ran my fingers through his hair. He was holding my hand, running his fingers over my knuckles.
"Are you feeling better now?" I asked him. He nodded.
"Roman?" Mumbled Virgil.
"Yeah?"
"I love you." He mumbled. I smiled, despite the tears.
"I love you too." I told him. I took my hand out of his hair and wiped all the tears off his face.
"We're going to my room." I told him, making up my mind. "You can't be in this room. It just makes you feel worse. All these negative feelings aren't good fo you."
I pulled Virgil into my arms and stood up. I kicked the door open with my foot and stepped into the hallway.
I passed Logan and Patton on the way back to my room. I kept waking and didn't say anything to them.
"Roman...kiddo, is Virgil okay?" Asked Patton. I turned and glared at him over my shoulder and continued down the hallway to my room.
I pushed open my door and stepped into my room. I slammed the door shut with my foot. I walked over to my bed and where Virgil's pillow was.
I gently laid him down. He let out a sigh, curling up on the bed. I wiped my tears away, embarrassed with myself. I sat down next to Virgil rubbing his back.
"I'm sorry." He whispered.
"For what?"
"That I'm such a mess." He sighed. "That you have to baby me like this."
"I don't mind taking care of you." I told him. "And your not a mess."
"I don't want you to have to take care of me."
"Virgil." I said. "Listen to me. I. Love. You. None of this bothers me. I'm just glad to be able to help you."
We were silent for a while. I kept rubbing Virgil's back while he just stared at the wall.
"Can you...can you sing to me?" Asked Virgil, breaking the silence after a while. I smiled gently.
"Of course." I said gently. I stood up and walked over to my bookshelf. I grabbed my ukulele that was covered with Lilo and Stitch stickers. I walked back to Virgil and cleared my cleared my throat, starting to strum the ukulele.
"Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help, falling in love with you
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you
"Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help, falling in love with you
"Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help, falling in love with you
For I can't help, falling in love with you...
But I can't help falling in love with you"
Virgil was watching me the entire time, smiling softly. I smiled, setting my ukulele down on the floor.
"I really do love you Virgil." I told him.
"Love ya too Princey." Virgil said softly.
"I'll be right back." I told him, standing up. I walked out of the room and back to Virgil's. I pushed open the door and turned the light on. It flickered a bit.
It was an absolute mess in here. I don't understand how he lived in here, even going weeks refusing to leave.
I sighed and walked around the room picking up things. I want Virgil to be happy and this rooms doesn't make him happy. Maybe it comforts him in some way, but he needs to get away from negative feelings right now.
I grabbed his giant headphones off the top of his dresser. I turned to grab other things, but my foot hit a box. I looked down to see a shoe box...full of blades.
Razor blades, blades from pencil sharpeners, scissors, and a small pocket knife. Most of them had little spots of dried blood on them.
I picked up the box and headed out of his room, turning off the light. I headed past my room and down the stairs.
Logan and Patton were cuddling on the couch, both of them wearing their onesies. Logan was typing away on his computer and Patton was watching some cartoon on tv.
The both looked up as I walked past into the kitchen. I sat Virgil's headphones on the table. I didn't realize that Patton had followed me into the kitchen until I set the box down.
"What that?" He asked, peering into it. His eyes widened when he saw what it was. "Where did you get this?" His voice full of concern.
"Virgil's room." I answered.
"Is he okay?" He asked.
"For now. The pills are taking a toll on him." I said, a little bit angry.
"I'm sorry." Whispered Patton. "Thomas wouldn't listen to me."
"I know Patton, I know." I said with a sigh. "I know your one hundred percent against Thomas taking anxiety pills." Patton turned to walk back to Logan but I grabbed his forearm.
"Patton..." I started, but was embarrassed. "I'm sorry I snapped at you. It's not your fault that Thomas did that. I shouldn't have taken my anger out on you. It wasn't very Prince-like of me to throw a fit like that."
Patton smiled and gave me a tight hug. I hugged him back, grateful he didn't hate or fear me now.
"It's okay Roman, I know you can be...protective sometimes." He said when he pulled away. "I get you just don't want Virgil to get hurt...again." I smiled at him.
"Thanks." I said. Patton smiled brightly, but than it went away.
"Is Virgil doing okay?" He asked.
"For now. He had a bad panic attack." I admitted. Patton looked at the floor. "But I think the headaches are gone for now. He hasn't had one since."
"That's good at least." Patton mumbled.
"I think I'm going to take Virgil on an actual date." I said, changing the topic. "To change up the sad mood in this place." Instantly Patton started smiling again.
"Really?"
"Yeah I'm thinking about setting something up in Imagination." I told him.
"That's amazing! What did you have in mind?" He asked super giddily.
"Big oak forest. Grassy clearing next to a sandy beach that leads into a crystal clear lake. And a picnic in that clearing." I said, describing my plan the best I could. "Eating, maybe some dancing and signing. Maybe getting a little tipsy. And than watching the sun set over the lake."
"That sounds amazing kiddo!" Said Patton excitedly. "Do you remember our first date Logan?" Patton yelled over to Logan who was still sitting on the couch.
"Of course I do Patton." He said with a smile. He looked up from his work and looked at Patton with that loving look again. "I wouldn't be logic if I didn't."
"We went to Imagination too." Patton explained with a wistful look on his face. "But to a flower field at night time. We stargazed."
"That sounds adorable." I told him. "But I need to get back to Virgil so I can sneak away and start setting everything up."
"Good luck!" Said Patton with a smile. He headed back over to Logan.
I grabbed the box and threw it into the trash can. I grabbed Virgil's headphones and walked back over to the stairs.
I headed back upstairs to my room. I opened the door. Virgil was standing by my big collection of Disney stuffed animals. He was holding my little Bambi plushie.
"Sorry." He mumbled when he saw me.
"It's fine." I said with a smile. "They're just stuffed animals."
Virgil sat the plushie back on the shelf. I laid the headphones down on the bed. I felt Virgil press up against my back and he wrapped his arms around my waist.
"What is this?" I asked with a smile. "Your never affectionate like this."
"Yeah well...never loved someone like I loved you before." He mumbled. "So I'll make an acceptation for you."
"Awww Virgil." I said, turning around in his arms and kissing him. I ran one of my hands slowly down his arm. It was weird seeing him without his hoodie.
I turned with him still in my arms and sat him down one the bed. I kissed him on the forehead. I pulled away and grabbed his headphones.
"Here's these." I said, holding his headphones out to him. He smiled, grabbing his headphones. "I need to attend to something, so I will be back in an hour or so."
"Okay Princey." He said.
I watched as Virgil curled up on the bed, leaning up against the headboard. He pulled on his headphones. Faintly, I could hear music blasting from the headphones. I laughed gently.
I turned and walked out of the room. I shut the door gently and quickly ran down the stairs.
I yelled bye to Logan and Patton as I ran past them. I grabbed an umbrella opened the front door and stepped into the rest of the mindscape. I opened the umbrella, not wanting to ruin my fabulous hair in this rain.
I followed a path until the ground beneath me started to turn into a bright white substance. Before long I was standing in a field of the stuff in front of a sign that said 'The Field of iMaGiNaTiOn'.
I walked out into the "field" until I was about in the middle of it. I stopped and closed my eyes. I started thinking of how I wanted everything to look. Slowly, rain stopped hitting the umbrella. Around me, I could hear the splashing of water and loud groans as the field around me contorted into what I imagined it to be.
When I opened my eyes, I was in a large forest, standing at the edge of a grassy clearing. At the other end of the small clearing was a small sandy beach and a huge crystal clear lake. Above me, the midday sun shined. I smiled.
I walked into the grassy clearing and imagined the picnic. I watched as a good sized red checked blanket appeared next to me. An old fashioned phonograph materialized near the blanket. Than a hazy mist appeared over the picnic blanket. When it dissolved, in its place was pizza and breadsticks.
Maybe it wasn't the most romantic of foods, but I knew Virgil liked pizza. And I didn't want to go too over the top. Next to the pizza box's was an bucket of ice with a bottle of nice wine in it. The good stuff to get a little tipsy on.
I smiled at my handiwork, very proud of myself. Than I summoned a vase of eleven roses; red, lavender, and salmon.
((((For those who don't know :
Eleven roses = who receives the roses are deeply loved by who gave them the roses
Red roses = love
Lavender roses = falling in love/love at first sight
Salmon roses = desire)))))
I knew Virgil probably didn't know the meanings behind different colored roses, but it's the thought that counts right?
