Thirty Two

Roman POV
I dropped the crown, shocked at what my mind was telling me. I am not Remus. I'm not him. I will not be giving into all those horrible and nasty thoughts. Remus is going to have to destroy me himself if he wants full creative control.

I shook my head and kicked he crown away from me.

"What do you think your doing?" Asked the voice. "Does the horrible Prince Roman think he can defeat me."

"I've defeated dragonwitches that are worse than you." I told the voice. "You stand no chance against me foul creature!" I drew my sword, looking for the source of the voice.

In front of me, a red smoke cloud materialized. It had a horrifying face that smiled down at me.

"Who are you?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at it.

"Your insecurities...your fears...everything you hate about yourself." Hissed the creature.

"I will not be listening to you." I growled at it. "You don't control me."

"Yes you will." The creature hissed before floating closer to me.

"No." I said, pointing my sword at it. "You have no control over me." With that, I slashed my sword through the create.

It disappeared without a sound. I dropped my sword, quite surprised that it had worked.

Good. It's good it worked. I need to find Virgil now.

Logan POV
I shut my eyes and took deep breaths. I tried to think about this rationally, while blocking out the voices of the other three.

None. Of. This. Is. Real.

I opened my eyes again and glared at the imitations of my friends and my boyfriend.

"None of you are real." I told them, standing up to my full height. I pushed them out of my way and walked towards the other side of the clearing.

"What are you doing?!" Screeched the voice.

"You are nothing more than a figment of my mind." I said, stopping. I turned around and looked at the imitations as they formed together into a blue cloud of smoke.

"Listen to me." The creature growled.

I crossed my arms in front of my chest and glared at it. I could tell it was only a mere physical manifestation of my insecurities.

"You don't have any power over me." I told it while turning and walking away.

I need to find Patton. I have to protect him from this. I can only guess that the others are dealing with similar manifestations of their own fears and insecurities. Patton, being a very emotional side, would most likely be more vulnerable towards these kinds of things.

I turned down another path, seeing another large opening in the hedge wall. I headed towards it, hoping that Patton was there.

I turned into the clearing, only to be pushed back by a strong wind. I looked back up, fixing my glasses, to see Virgil.

He was curled in on himself, sitting in the middle of the clearing. Around him was strong winds, filled with black and purples wisps of energy.

I put of my hands on the hedge wall and braces my feet against the ground. Voices were screaming horrible, horrible things at him.

"Virgil!" I yelled to him. He didn't hear me, or if he did, he wasn't reacting. "Virgil!" I yelled again.

He curled up tighter and put his hands over his ears. I need to help him somehow. I took a step into the gust of wind, only to be knocked backwards and onto my back.

I looked up quickly, pushing my hair out of my face. I got back to my feet.

"Virgil!" I yelled again. He looked up this time, his eyes widening as he saw me. "Virgil come here!" I yelled, grabbing onto the hedge.

His eyes we're back to normal, they weren't solid black now. He looked both terrified and completely devoid of emotions at the same time.

"It's not the real Logan." Hissed the voice. "The real Logan wouldn't want you around. He thinks of you as a defeatist." I lowered my gaze when the voice said the last part.

"Virgil, don't listen to the voice!" I tried to tell him. I pushed forwards into the wind again, this time more prepared.

I grimaced as one of the wisps of energy smacked against my arm. It burned against my skin. I took a few more steps forwards. Virgil was watching me, but otherwise hadn't moved.

"Virgil please!" I begged him. "Come here!"

I raised my hand up, trying to divert the wind away from my face. I slowly walked forwards, only two feet or so from Virgil now. I reached my other hand out to him.

"Grab my hand Virgil!" He stared at my hand for a bit, seeming to have some sort of internal combat.

"Don't listen to him." Hissed the voice. "You belong here. Give into me Virgil. I've always been a part of you. Give into Depression."

"Don't listen to the voice Virgil." I told him. "It's not real. It's all in your head." I took a few steps closer, only a foot from him now.

"They don't want you with them anymore." The voice told him. "You're a dark side and nothing more. You don't belong with the light sides."

"Yes you do Virgil. You've always been a part of the light sides. You're not a dark side anymore. It's in the past." I said, trying to contradict the voice.

"Give into me Virgil." Growled the voice.

"Don't listen to it Virgil. You're strong. You can't fight this." I said, taking another step forward. Now I could reach him.

I grabbed his shoulders and pulled myself to him. I looked in his eyes, looking for any sign that Virgil was there.

"We need you Virgil. Don't give into Depression. You can fight him." I told him.

"I can't." He whispered, looking away from me. "You don't need me anymore."

"Yes we do!" I argued. "Listen to me Virgil, we do need you. You are just as important as the rest of us. Your past does not define you."

"Yes it does." He argued back.

"You are not the bad guy Virgil!" I told him. "You are not hurting Thomas by existing. Do not give into Depression."

I pulled him into a tight hug. I stood up and held him in my arms. The winds picked up again, getting even stronger now.

I headed towards the opening back into the maze. Virgil had buried his face into my shoulder and was digging his fingers into my shirt. I realized now how much he was shaking.

"No! Don't go!" Screeched the voice. "You belong to me Virgil! You can't escape me!"

"Falsehood!" I screeched back at the voice. "You are nothing more than a figment of his imagination! You are not real!"

"He's lying to you Virgil!" The voice tried to tell him.

"No..." Virgil whispered. "They care about me." With that, the winds started to die down.

Quickly, I headed back into the maze. I ducked around the corner, instantly the sounds of the wind disappeared. It was eerily quite now.

I put Virgil down. He was still shaking. Before I could say anything, Virgil hugged me. I stayed still, unsure of what to do.

He started sobbing.  I wrapped my arms tightly around him.

"You're safe now Virgil."  I told him.

"I-I know but...I..."  He tried to say, his voice extremely shaky.  His breath was coming in sharp breaths.

"Just breath for me, okay?"  I said gently.  We stayed like that for a few minutes.

"Thank you Logan." He whispered after a while, pulling away. He swayed a bit on his feet before falling forwards.

I caught him and pulled one of his arms around my shoulder.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Yeah." He mumbled. "Feeling light headed." I nodded, guessing that the effects of Depression were starting to wear off. Slowly but surely, he was changing back to Anxiety.

"Come on, we need to find the others."

"Logan! Virgil!" Screamed a voice from the far end of the path. I turned to see Remy and Picani.

Remy was carrying Picani as they came running down the path towards us. When the reached us, Remy had an expression of relief on his face.

"Thank god we found y'all!" Said remy.

"You can put me down now." Said Picani softly. He grimaced and put one of his hands up to the cut on the side of his neck.

"Shhh..." whispered Remy. "Don't talk honey, your gonna hurt yourself. And you can't stop me from carrying you."

"Are you two okay?" I asked them while mentally sighing. Of course they showed up now, it would've been helpful if they had shown up a few minuets earlier to help with Virgil.

"Yeah, I found Emile quickly. Racing around here and screaming for him actually worked." Answered Remy. "Glad we found you two. Is Virgil okay?"

"He's changing back slowly, but it's taking a lot out of him." I told them, quickly glancing over at Virgil.  He seemed pretty out of it at this point and he was leaning heavily on me, resting his head against my chest.

"We need to find the others."  I told them.  Remy nodded.  Slowly, the four of us started walking.

Deceit POV
I gasped and sat up quickly.  I'm...still...alive...

I sighed and looked around.  I was on the ground, surrounding by giant hedges.  The hedge maze.  I remember this part of Corruptions plan.

It pits all sides against physical manifestations of the insecurities and deepest fears and self hatreds.

Instantly, I looked for Doubt.  But he was no where to be seen.  I felt a horrible feeling well up inside me.

After a year of being a part from him, I can't loose him now.  I need him back.  I need to know he's safe.

I reached up and touched the side of my head.  My hair was matted with dried blood, but otherwise, the wound was almost gone.

I felt a little lightheaded and my head was throbbing in pain.  Despite how I felt, I quickly got to my feet.

I swayed a little, but tried my best to push the feeling away.  I shut my eyes for a second and held out my arms for balance.

"Doubt?"  I called out, hoping for a response.  Nothing.  Only an eerie silence.  I felt a genuine fear for Doubt right now.  He's too vulnerable, he wouldn't make it if he came up against his insecurities.

Quickly, I started heading down one of the paths.

"Doubt!"  I yelled out again.  Faintly, I heard a soft whimper.  I froze instantly.  After a few seconds I heard the whimper again.

I quickly tuned and headed towards the sound.  I turned a corner to see Doubt curled up on the floor.

I ran to him and kneeled down next to him.  I felt tears in my eyes.  He was in such a horrible state.  I didn't touch him, afraid of hurting him.

He looked at me and stared sobbing.  He reached his arms out to me.  Instantly I scooped him up into my arms.

"Are you okay?"  I asked him, looking him over to make sure Corruption didn't hurt him.  I froze and felt anger fill me when I saw his blood covered neck.

No no no...Traits can die.  Sides can't, but Traits can die off.  This isn't good.  I can't loose him.

There was a long wound going across his neck.  It was still bleeding slowly.  He put his hand on my cheek with the scales on it and made me look him in the eyes.

"I"m not going to make it."  He whispered.  I put my forehead against his and hugged him tightly.

"Don't say that."  I whispered.  He started coughing, but it ended in a horrible sound as he coughed up blood.  I placed my hands up again his neck, trying to stop the bleeding.

"Don't talk."  I told him, laying him down.  "I'll get you of of here.  You're going to be okay."

"Don't lie to me Deceit."  Doubt whispered, his voice starting to give out.  "I'm not going to make it."

"No...I can't loose you."  I whispered, I was starting to cry.  Doubt reached up and wiped a few of the tears away.

I put my hand up against his and held it there.  I looked at him and watched as he struggled to breath.

"I love you."  He whispered.

"I love you too."  I whimpered, trying to keep myself from breaking down sobbing.  I held his hand comfortingly.

"Just breath."  I told him.  "You'll be okay."

"Deceit..."  He whispered, his grip tightening on my hand.

No...don't give in."  I told him.

"It hurts."  He mumbled.  He was starting to cry.  "I don't want to die."

"You're not going to die." I told him, starting to get panicky. "You're not going to."

"I love you..." He whispered. His eyes rolled back in his head.

"No...no...No!" I screamed as his chest stopped rising. "Wake up! Don't go!" Tears fell down my face.

I could feel my heart shattering. This can't be happening. After everything we went through, he can't die now.

"Doubt!" I yelled, shaking him. He didn't move or respond at all. "Wake up!"

I moved onto my knees and placed my fists above his heart. I started giving him chest compressions. He didn't move. He didn't wake up.

"Don't go." I whispered. I kept looking for any sign that he was okay. "Please..."

"Wake up!" I screamed. "Please!" I pulled him into my lap.

"Help!" I screamed. "Don't die..."

"Why..." I mumbled. "Please...no..."

"Doubt...please...baby...honey...wake up." I begged him, burying my face in his neck. "Please..."
