Chapter 8
This is my kiss goodbye, you can stand alone and watch me fly...
After showing Badger to the warriors den, and getting him a nest, Silverlily turned to leave.
"If you don't mind me asking, what happened to you?" Badger asked. She gave him a look through her good eye.
"There was a fire," she said, turning to leave again.
"Did you walk into it?" he asked. Silverlily spun to look at him.
"Does it look like I'm stupid?" she bristled. Badger shrugged.
"I have no idea, I met you a few minutes ago," he said, his eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. Silverlily huffed in annoyance, but sat down.
"No, I was just sitting in the forest, enjoying the day, when all of a sudden, a fire started around me," she said. Badger cocked his head.
"If you asked me, I'd say someone's after you," he said, and padded out of the den. Silverlily felt a ripple of shock course throughout her body.
Is someone really out to get me? she thought. Her dream flashed to the front of her mind, and the scene with Dreamstalker and Lionsong.
"Silverlily, Flarestar said you were my mentor, right?" called Badger. Silverlily glanced up, shook out her pelt, and padded over to him.
"Flowersong, can you look after Beekit for a while?" she called to the tortoiseshell and brown she-cat. Flowersong dipped her head, and beckoned the silver kit into the nursery.
"So what are we going to do first?" he asked as Silverlily motioned for him to follow her out of the camp.
"Hey, can I come with?" Meadowslip called from next to the freshkill pile. Silverlily shrugged.
"Sure," she said. Badger tensed, but didn't say anything. "I'm going to take you hunting,"
"Alright, I can show you guys around the territory as well," Meadowslip said. Badger raised an eyebrow at Silverlily, but she ignored it. As they padded through the moors and over some rivers, Silverlily had the itching feeling that Meadowslip wanted to talk to Badger alone.
"I'll go hunt over there, you two can hunt over there," she said, flicking her tail to some tall grasses. Badger gave her a look that said, please don't leave me alone, I REALLY don't want to talk to her right now, and Silverlily shot a look back that said, learn to deal with your problems, mister, and with that, she turned away to go somewhere else. However, her curiosity got the better of her, so she stayed withing hearing range, and luckily for Silverlily, she had better hearing than most of her clanmates.
"Badger, you-"
"Meadowslip, I- look, I'm sorry if you thought I murdered your brother but I can promise you I didn't. Someone set me up," Badger mewed, cutting an eager looking Meadowslip. The brown tabby deflated a little.
"Look, I- I can never forgive you unless I see the evidence that you had nothing to do with it. I-I love you but, if you didn't kill him, then who did?" she asked, her green eyes sparking.
"I don't know, but- wait, did you say you-" Badger was cut off by a large, familiar, thick-furred, golden tom with piercing amber eyes bursting out of the bushes and skidding into a halt in front of Silverlily.
"You're coming with me. NOW," he growled. Startled, Silverlily stumbled backwards.
"Lionsong, you're tresspassing!" Silverlily managed to get out. The large tom rolled his eyes.
"Of course I am! Now come back home so we can-" Silverlily pounced on him.
"Don't even, Lionsong! You left me for dead because I wan't beautiful enough for your standards, and you flinch, even now as you stare at my ugly face!" she screeched. "You can't tell me what to do! I could rip you to shreds, and you aren't getting any children anytime soon, you selfish brat!"
Lionsong pushed her off of him, and pinned her down.
"You know what? I don't care about you, you got that right, but what I want from you is our kits, and I need them now," Lionsong growled, tensing his claws on her shoulders. Silverlily was unfit to battle Lionsong, even though she was full of crackling anger that filled her with energy, some of her wounds had re-opened from the river, and pouncing on Lionsong.
Badger snarled, and yanked Lionsong off of her. Meadowslip watched through awed and fear filled eyes. Silverlily let out a small cry of pain, but the two toms were so locked in an eye to eye stare down that they didn't hear her.
"Get out of here you stinking cat, like she said, or I'll give you something to run from," he growled, his voice frighteningly low.
Lionsong huffed, but turned to leave.
"I won't stop until I get those kits. I'll be back," he growled, and ran off across the lake, in the direction of the trees on the other side. Meadowslip looked like she was about to throw up, just looking at Silverlily.
Lionsong had dug his claws deep into Silverlily's shoulders, and there were chunks of flesh missing from when Badger had yanked Lionsong off of her. It was bleeding a lot, and part of her flank wound had re-opened. Silverlily sank wearily down into the grass, and closed her eyes as a familiar wave of pain swept over her.
