Chapter 3

You tell me that you're sorry, didn't think I'd turn around and say... It's too late to apologize... it's too late...

Screaming, Silverlily woke up with a start.

"I thought you gave her poppy seeds!" a female voice screeched.

"I did, but cutting off part of a leg is pain enough to wake you up!" a male voice retorted.

Silverlily opened her eyes to see Swanlight and Dreamstalker arguing.

"Wha-"

Swanlight cut her off.

"Are you okay?" she asked, brushing her tail along her daughter's flank.

"I don't know, what happened?" Silverlily asked.

"Well, after you blacked out, Lionsong dragged you back to camp, and dropped you here, and after doing an examination, we found out that your leg would be an impairment to you if we let it stay attatched so we had to cut it off." Dreamstalker meowed calmly, motioning to the limp leg that lay inches from her feet detatched. He said it as if he had done in a thousand times before.

Blood was pooling everywhere, and Silverlily felt queasy seeing one of her own limbs detatched from her own body.

"And the kits?" Swanlight prompted.

"Are fine," finished Silverlily.

Dreamstalker raised an eyebrow at her.

"You're sure?" he asked.

"Yes, they're mine, and I'm sure." Silverlily retored. "You can tell Lionsong he can come in now."

Lionsong, who had been pacing outside the den, practically sprinted in.

"Are you okay?" he asked. That's when he saw the leg. Lionsong sat down, looking a little green.

"Don't worry, she still has the other half." Dreamstalker muttered. That was true. Silverlily, with a grunt, painfully moved her stub to the left, then to the right, then had it flop back down.

"Yes, but she's lost more than that," Lionsong hissed. Silverlily blinked, then turned to Dreamstalker.

"What does he mean?" she demanded.

"Well-" Swanlight started. Silverlily cut her off, rising to her paws. Lionsong watched as she hobbled over to the pool in the back of the medicine den. She reeled back in horror when she saw her reflection.

The left side of her face was melted away, leaving ugly, pink flesh. Same with most of her left flank, and part of her tail. Her tail was at least as half as long as it was before the fire. She glanced up.

"Where's the rest of my tail?" Silverlily demanded.

Swanlight cringed, then motioned to the tail stub in the corner.

That's when she lost it.

"I'm hideous!" she wailed. "Why would Starclan let this happen to me? What have I ever done wrong?"

"Let all cats old enought to catch their own prey, join here beneath the Great Rock for a clan meeting!" Nightstar called from atop the Great Rock.

Silverlily hobbled outside, and sat outside the medicine den, leaning against the entrance.

"We have come to a decision on what to do with that... thing," he said, trailing off to look at Silverlily. She shrank back, once in her life not enjoying the attention.

"We have decided that Stormclan must remain strong, and we can not have weak cats dragging us down, and leaving us vulnerable.  From this day on, Silverlily the half kittypet, is no longer a part of Stormclan!"
