2 months after

Author's pov

As two months passed since Taehyung's passing, Y/N found herself gradually returning to her normal routine, though the void left by his absence still lingered in her heart. Her job as a game developer in the gaming industry provided a welcome distraction, allowing her to immerse herself in her work and find solace in the virtual worlds she created. While she still experienced occasional nightmares and moments of grief, the frequency of sleepless nights began to diminish, signaling a gradual healing process.

Jungkook, on the other hand, had found success in his career, securing a position as the head of the management department in an international trading company. Despite the demands of his new role, he remained a constant source of support for Y/N, their friendship proving to be a steadfast anchor in the face of adversity. Though Y/N's laughter was not as frequent as it once was, Jungkook took comfort in the fact that she was making efforts to move forward, even if the journey was still marked by moments of sadness.

Their bond remained unshakeable, a testament to the enduring strength of their friendship. While they both continued to mourn the loss of their dear friend Taehyung, they found solace in each other's company, navigating the complexities of grief together as they forged ahead in their respective paths.

Jungkook's pov

I went into the café and spotted Jimin, Jin and other gang members of our college. Jimin waved at me. I made my way and took a seat beside Namjoon. This was our first get-together after farewell. Lisa and Jisoo were there but not Y/N.

"Y/N is not coming?", Hoseok snatched my words.

"Yes, she will be coming, after work." Lisa replied.

I nodded with an 'o'.

As Y/N entered the café, all eyes turned toward her. Dressed in denim jeans and a simple white hoodie, she exuded an effortless charm that captivated everyone's attention. Despite the casual attire, there was an undeniable allure about her that drew admiring glances from the other patrons.

I couldn't help but notice the way the other boys, including myself, found themselves momentarily entranced by her presence. Her effortless beauty seemed to command the room, and for a moment, all conversation ceased as we took in her appearance.

"Hi there!" With a warm smile, Y/N made her way to our table. Despite the subtle undercurrent of sadness that still lingered in her eyes, there was a quiet strength about her that spoke volumes. She may have been through a lot, but she refused to let it dim her inner light.

"Umm hm..." Jimin replied in daze. I smacked his head. "I mean, hi!" he corrected himself with tinted cheeks.

She took a seat beside Lisa, smile never leaving her lips.

"It has been ages since we met!" Namjoon said.

"We met just 2 months ago." Yoongi pointed. Namjoon rolled his eyes and continued with some random conversation.

As the conversation flowed around the table, I couldn't help but notice Y/N's distant demeanor. While the rest of us eagerly indulged in the coffee and snacks served by the waiter, she seemed lost in her own thoughts, her gaze fixed on some unseen point on the table.

Concerned, I reached out to her, gently placing a hand on her arm. "Hey, everything okay?" I asked, my voice laced with genuine worry. Despite her attempts to maintain a smile, it was clear that something was bothering her.

She looked up, startled by my question, as if pulled from a reverie. For a moment, her eyes searched mine, as if trying to find the right words to express herself. Then, with a faint smile, she nodded. "Yeah, I'm okay," she replied softly, though the uncertainty in her tone betrayed her true feelings.

"Everything okay??" Jungkook asked.

I flashed a fake smile, "Yes! What will happen to me?"

He nodded and dug into the tray of chicken popcorns. I took some too. As the banter continued around the table, I couldn't shake off the subtle pang of longing that tugged at my heart. The absence of Taehyung, our vivacious friend who always lit up the room with his infectious laughter and boundless energy, left a palpable void in our gatherings. There was always a silent competition between Jin and Tae, who will make others laugh the most. No one was allowed to be sad or sulk when they were present. If words didn't suffice they would start tickling you until you laugh to death.

"Yah Kook! Give back my piece!" Jisoo cried.

"I took it from the plate!" he defended.

"No, I was thinking to take it!"

Here it goes again. I sighed.

"But I took it first!"

"I saw it first! So, return back my chicken!"

"Take it then!" he smirked and gulped down the piece.

"JEON JUNGKOOK!"

I laughed, "stop behaving like a child, you two!"

"Okay, how about we compete to make everyone laugh? The winner will not pay anything today," Jin suggested.

"Everyone knows you will win, because Taehyung is not here," Hoseok spoke casually.

"Ha ha ha! you are a Joke guy!" Jin busted out in his iconic laughter.

Jisoo smirked, "it's simple, you would never stand a chance against him. He was of another level."

"Ha ha ha! you are a Joke guy!" Jin busted out in his iconic laughter.

As the others chuckled at Jin's reaction, I tried to maintain a facade of amusement, inwardly, my heart ached at the thought of my love no longer being with us.

Despite my efforts to join in the laughter, a heavy silence settled within me as memories of Taehyung flooded my mind. His laughter echoed in the recesses of my memory, a poignant reminder of the joy and camaraderie we once shared.

I felt a lump forming in my throat as I struggled to keep my composure. With a forced smile, I excused myself from the table, pretending I needed a trip to the washroom. As I made my way there, each step felt heavier, weighed down by the weight of my emotions.

Finally inside the restroom, I closed the door behind me and leaned against the counter, feeling the tears welling up in my eyes. "Did you hear? They are talking about you like you are present with them," I whispered to the empty room, my voice choked with emotion. "Not only me, everyone misses you. You are still a part of us and will always be."

I reached up to wipe away the tears that trickled down my cheeks, determined to regain my composure. "No, I am not going to cry," I whispered to myself, willing strength into my voice. "I'll be strong for him."

As we laughed at Hoseok and Jin's banter, Y/N suddenly spoke up, her voice tinged with a hint of unease.

"Excuse me, I need to use the washroom," she said hastily, getting up and leaving with her head bowed.

It dawned on me then. "Hoseok, was it really necessary to bring up Tae?" I asked, the weight of my words hanging heavy in the air. Everyone understood the implication behind my question.

"I-I didn't realize. I am sorry," Hoseok responded, his gaze falling to the table. The cheerful mood that had filled the room suddenly dissipated.

"Is she crying?" Jisoo inquired, concern etched on her face.

"Maybe..." I murmured, my worry growing.

"I should check on her," Lisa suggested, moving to stand up.

"No, leave her alone," I interjected firmly, sensing that Y/N needed space.

Lisa reluctantly settled back into her seat. After a while, Y/N returned, attempting to mask her emotions with a casual demeanor. But I could see through the facade; her eyes were red and swollen. She had been crying.

"Hey, what's with the mood? Why aren't you all fooling around?" she asked, trying to sound nonchalant, but her eyes betrayed her true feelings.

"We are sorry," Hoseok apologized.

"For what?" Y/N countered, her voice tinged with defensiveness.

"For talking about Tae. I didn't mean to hurt you—" Hoseok started to explain.

"You thought I was crying? No, I just went to fix my dress!" she lied, cutting him off abruptly.

"O-okay..." Hoseok responded, clearly unconvinced.

After some more subdued conversation, we decided to call it a night. "I'll drop you," I offered to Y/N.

"Okay," she replied quietly, her demeanor still tinged with sadness.

.........................

"We are here," I announced as I stopped in front of her house.

"This is the last time you're dropping me..." she declared as she unbuckled her seatbelt.

"Why?" I asked, genuinely curious.

"Because... I am getting my new car! It will be delivered tomorrow!" she exclaimed with a gleam of excitement in her eyes.

"Wow, congrats buddy! By the way, do you know how to drive?" I inquired.

"Better than you, Bunny!" she retorted with a deadpan expression.

"Ha, ha. Very funny," I chuckled. "Are you free tomorrow?"

"Yes, Sundays I usually don't have any official tasks," she confirmed.

"Well then, would you like to go to the amusement park? I got two tickets from my Hyung. Consider it a friendly date," I suggested with a playful wink.

"I love amusement parks. See you tomorrow then!" she replied with a bright smile as she stepped out of the car and made her way to her apartment.

I watched her until her figure disappeared into the darkness, then drove away.
