Author's pov
It had been a month, and Taehyung seemed to have lost the last remaining shreds of peace in his life. The constant threat of his brother, Taecyeon, loomed over him, casting a dark shadow on his relationship with Y/N.
Living in fear of losing her at any moment, Taehyung became overly possessive, his actions bordering on suffocating. Y/N couldn't help but feel uncomfortable under his constant watch. It wasn't that she disliked his protectiveness, but there was a fine line between love and obsession, and Taehyung was teetering dangerously close to the latter. Even something as simple as going to the bathroom became an ordeal, with Taehyung insisting on accompanying her and standing guard outside until she was finished, much to the bemusement of their classmates.
"Taehyung, everyone is staring at us. Stop being overly possessive!" she whispered harshly as they exited the washroom.
"I just want to protect you," he protested, his eyes pleading with her to understand.
"I am an adult, Tae! I can take care of myself."
"But I do it because I love you—"
She cut him off, frustration evident in her voice. "Love and obsession are not the same. And you are being obsessive," she remarked before walking away, leaving Taehyung feeling deflated and misunderstood.
As he stood there, lost in his thoughts, a hand was placed on his shoulder, snapping him out of his reverie. Taehyung turned to see his best friend, wearing his signature bunny smile. "Hey, buddy! Wassup?!" Jungkook greeted cheerfully, but his smile faltered when he saw Taehyung's downcast expression. "Why the long face?"
"I-it's nothing, Kookie..." Taehyung sighed, trying to brush off his worries.
But Jungkook, ever perceptive when it came to his best friend, wasn't convinced. "It's related to Y/N, right?"
Tae sighed again, feeling the weight of his troubles bearing down on him. "We had a little fight..."
Jungkook chuckled and gave his shoulder a reassuring pat. "Quarrels only increase the love for your partner, bro. And trust me, Y/N is too soft-hearted to stay mad at you for long."
"And why do you think so, Mr. Jeon?"
"Because..." Jungkook paused dramatically, a mischievous glint in his eyes, "She is a pure soul. She loves you with all her heart and mind. She cares for you more than anyone else..."
As Jungkook continued to speak, Taehyung found himself lost in his friend's words. He couldn't help but notice the sparkle in Jungkook's eyes whenever he mentioned Y/N, and a pang of jealousy shot through his heart. Maybe he likes her? Maybe he would be a better partner for Y/N? Taehyung's mind raced with insecurities, his thoughts spiraling out of control.
But then, a wave of determination washed over him. No, he thought, shaking himself out of his self-doubt. I'm not going to let this brat take Y/N's responsibility. She loves only me, and I won't let anyone else come between us.
"Hey, you there?" Jungkook waved his hand in front of Taehyung's eyes, snapping him back to reality.
Taehyung forced a smile and nodded. "You're right. She'll forgive me soon." With renewed determination, he took Jungkook's hand, and together they headed towards the café, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
........
The classes finally ended, and students rushed out of the main gate, eager to start their evening activities. Jungkook and Taehyung stood hesitantly near the entrance, their backpacks slung over their shoulders, waiting for Y/n to arrive.
"Kook, is it really okay to approach her now?" Taehyung nervously asked, his fingers fidgeting with the strap of his bag, the weight of his textbooks pressing against his back.
Jungkook rolled his eyes. "Aaaaaand you've been dating her for more than 4 years?? What a coward you are, man!" he scolded playfully, his own backpack bouncing against his hip as he nudged Taehyung forward.
"There she is!" Jungkook pushed him, prompting Taehyung to straighten his jacket nervously before facing Y/n's approaching figure.
They exchanged a few minutes of awkward stares before Y/n walked past him, her bag slung casually over her shoulder, her notebook tucked under her arm. Taehyung's lips curved into a smile when she unexpectedly grabbed his hand and pulled him along, their fingers intertwining as they walked.
"Look, I am sorry—"
"It's okay. You were being obsessive, and I was rude to you. We're even now," she interrupted with a smile, her backpack shifting slightly as she turned to face him.
"So, are we good?" Taehyung replied, his eyes softening as he watched her adjust the strap of her bag.
"Shall we head to the park?" She asked.
The couple sat on a bench, enjoying ice cream together. "Now tell me, what's bothering you? Why are you acting strange?" Y/n asked gently.
Taehyung huffed, his hands clasped together in his lap. "I'm scared," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper.
Confusion flickered across Y/n's face as Taehyung continued, his backpack slipping slightly as he shifted his weight. "I'm scared of losing you. I feel like you're going to leave me. I'm not good for you. You'll get hurt because of my presence," he admitted, his heart heavy with worry, though he avoided mentioning Taecyeon.
Y/n's eyes filled with tears as she pulled him into a tight hug, her backpack slipping to the ground beside them with a soft thud. "Don't you dare say that. You're the best for me. I love you, only you. I'm not going to leave you, even if you say so."
"But what if I'm not there with you?"
"I'll go with Jungkook," she joked, her laughter tinkling like music in his ears as she reached up to cup his cheeks.
Deep. Taehyung again questioned his worth, overwhelmed by her unwavering love and support. What had he done to deserve such a wonderful girlfriend? He wrapped his arms around Y/n, resting his chin on her shoulder. Her warmth chased away the cold thoughts that haunted him.
Sometimes, it's better not to speak every thought aloud. Who knows which words might attract Destiny's attention? Just like this simple conversation between Taehyung and Y/n, kissed by fate, everything suddenly turned upside-down.
Taehyung's heart raced as he watched the shadowy figure behind the bushes, his eyes widening in shock as he recognized the menacing silhouette of his twin brother, Taecyeon. A cold shiver ran down his spine as Taecyeon made a cut-throat gesture before disappearing into the foliage.
Taehyung quickly pulled away from Y/n, his breath caught in his throat.
"What happened?" Y/n's voice was filled with concern as she looked up at him, her eyes searching his face for answers.
"Just realized it's getting late. We should head home," Taehyung replied, forcing a nervous laugh as he avoided her gaze, his eyes fixed on the darkening sky where ominous clouds loomed overhead. Y/n stood up in agreement, sensing his unease, her hand reaching out to grasp his reassuringly.
As they walked towards her door, Taehyung lingered for a moment, his heart pounding in his chest. "Are you going to stand in there? It feels like I am closing the door on your face," Y/n teased, her playful pout tugging at his lips.
"It's okay. I get satisfaction," Taehyung chuckled, his nervousness fading in her presence.
She closed the distance between them, her fingers curling around the collar of his shirt as she pulled him down to meet her lips in a tender kiss. Taehyung responded with equal fervor, his worries momentarily forgotten in the warmth of her embrace.
"Where is the shy girl from my freshman year?" he teased, a fond smile playing on his lips as they broke apart.
Y/n's cheeks flushed with embarrassment, but she quickly found her retort. "Kim Taehyung spoiled her," she replied cheekily before playfully closing the door in his face.
Taehyung chuckled at her response, feeling lighter and happier after their little date. "Stay safe! Don't open the door to anyone!" he called out before leaving, his voice echoing in the hallway.
"I am not a kid!" he heard her muffled reply, and he couldn't help but smile as he made his way home, grateful for her presence in his life.
...............
Taehyung's smile faltered as he remembered his kiss with Y/n, the warmth of her lips still lingering on his own. His reverie was interrupted by a sudden voice that sent a chill down his spine.
"Looking so happy," Taecyeon chuckled, his voice dripping with malice as he observed his nails, "I wonder how long will it last." He leaned casually against the door of Taehyung's house, his presence like a dark cloud looming over his brother's joy.
Taehyung's smile vanished, replaced by a flicker of anger that simmered beneath the surface. Taecyeon had a knack for targeting his weakest points, leaving him feeling helpless and vulnerable.
"Won't you invite your brother inside?" his twin taunted, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
With a resigned sigh, Taehyung opened the door, allowing Taecyeon to enter uninvited. His brother wasted no time in making himself comfortable, plopping down on the sofa with a smirk that infuriated Taehyung. "Your romance is getting on my nerves, you know?" Taecyeon's smirk grew wider, his eyes glinting with malicious intent.
"Why are you doing this?! Why are you invading my life?!" Taehyung's voice trembled with suppressed anger and hurt.
"It's because I hate you!" Taecyeon spat, his words laced with venom. "I can't stand to see you happy. It suffocates me to see your smile. I want to see you ruined."
Taehyung felt a sharp pang of hurt at his brother's words. How could someone be so cruel, especially to their own flesh and blood? What had Taehyung done to deserve such treatment? His throat tightened as tears threatened to spill from his eyes.
"Take a look at these, brother," Taecyeon said, handing him a stack of pictures.
Taehyung's eyes widened in shock as he saw the explicit images of him and his classmate, Kiara. His heart sank as he realized the implications of what his brother was showing him. "What are these?!" he exclaimed, his voice trembling with disbelief and horror.
"They look nice, don't they?" Taecyeon smirked. "I'll show these to Y/n. She'll leave you for good."
"But it wasn't me!" Taehyung protested, his voice desperate and pleading.
"It was me. Unfortunately, we share the same face, which made my work easier," Taecyeon laughed, his tone chillingly devoid of remorse.
"I'll tell her everything, even about you. She trusts me more than anyone else!" Taehyung vowed, his voice quivering with determination.
Taecyeon's eyes darkened as he spoke in a low, threatening tone. "You won't do that. Or else..." He pulled out a gun from his jacket, causing Taehyung to gasp in shock and horror. "Else... I'll kill her," Taecyeon gave a sinister smile, his eyes gleaming with malice.
Taehyung fell to his knees, tears streaming down his cheeks as he begged for mercy. "Please, no! Don't hurt her. What do you want from me?! I'll give you everything. Just leave her alone! I beg you," he pleaded, his hands clasped together in supplication.
Taecyeon knelt to his level, his expression cold and unforgiving. "I want you to leave her, forever. I want you gone! Can you do that?!"
When Taehyung remained silent, paralyzed by fear and despair, Taecyeon pushed him to the ground with a forceful shove. "Either you leave her, or she will leave you," Taecyeon declared, standing tall and imposing over his trembling brother.
"I will obey you," Taehyung whispered, his voice barely audible over the pounding of his heart. "Please, don't hurt her. Promise me."
Taecyeon's lips curled into a cruel smile as he stood up, leaving Taehyung broken and defeated on the floor. "Okay." He knew this promise meant nothing to him.
"I am not weak like before. I can do anything for Y/n!" Taecyeon's quotes his words in a mocking tone. The words were a cruel reminder of his vulnerability in the face of his brother's malice. "Strong, my foot! You will always be a weakling in front of me."
Taehyung's hands shook with a tumult of emotions, his heart pounding in his chest as he struggled to contain the rising tide of fear and despair.
The door creaked open, and Taecyeon's chilling voice filled the room once more. "Graduation day will be the last day you see her. Either you leave her, or she leaves this world." He twirled the gun in his hand with a menacing flourish before slamming the door shut, leaving Taehyung alone with his thoughts.
As the sound of his brother's footsteps faded into silence, Taehyung crumbled, his body trembling with the weight of his anguish. How could he possibly leave Y/n? The thought of her pain tore at his soul, but he knew that staying would only bring her further harm. He would be the cause of her tears, the source of her suffering. He couldn't bear to see her destroyed.
But the prospect of life without Y/n was equally unbearable. How could he face a world devoid of her light, her laughter, her love? Every moment without her would be a torment, a reminder of his failure to protect her. Graduation day loomed ominously on the horizon, a countdown to the end of everything he held dear.
"How will I face her?" Taehyung's voice cracked with emotion as he pictured Y/n's tear-streaked face, her eyes filled with betrayal and pain. The image shifted, morphing into the nightmare of her lifeless body, a consequence of his inability to protect her.
With a determined resolve, Taehyung wiped away his tears and stood up. "For Y/n. I have to disappear, completely," he whispered to himself, his voice tinged with sorrow and determination. "She will hurt, but she will heal. She will remember the love we shared, not the pain of our parting. I will ensure that."
In the leading up to graduation, Taehyung vowed to spend every moment with Y/n, to create memories that would sustain her in his absence. He would love her fiercely, fiercely and without reservation, cherishing each fleeting moment as if it were a lifetime. He would live his 70 years of life in seven days. For in the end, all that mattered was her happiness, her safety, her peace of mind. And if he could give her that, then perhaps his sacrifice would not have been in vain.
