Chapter 28
Barbara's POV
It's been two weeks since Dick's death, and I haven't been on patrol. Or left the Manor for that matter. Except for that one time I helped get Damian back.
"Miss Gordon, I strongly suggest you leave your room. Master Bruce would like your help updating the batcomputer." Alfred says as he collects the tray on my desk with my uneaten dinner from last night.
"Get Tim to do it." I groan.
"Miss Gordon...Barbara...Dick would not have wanted you to dwell on the past as you are now." Alfred walks over to my bed and strokes my forehead like a loving father. "And at times like these, it can be best to mourn with others. You need not be alone." I sit up, and hug Alfred. He hesitates for a moment before hugging me back tightly.
"Thanks Alf." I whisper. "I needed that."
"You are welcome, Miss Gordon." He says, smiling his happy Alfred smile.

"Welcome back to the land of the living." The newly-resurrected Damian says, floating a few inches above the ground. "I have superpowers now."
"I noticed." I mumble, sipping my coffee and trying to un-frizz my hair a little.
"Hey Babs." Jay says.
"Don't call me that anymore." I demand. "He started calling me that."
"Sorry."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hey, Batgirl!" Wally chirps as I zeta into the WatchTower. His coping his being happy. "NW finally ask you out?" My face must fall, because Wally quickly shakes his head. "Oh man, sorry. You know, sometimes I just don't think."
"It's okay...it's just really fresh for me." I try not to cry, but when Kaldur, Artemis, M'gann, Conner and Zatanna walk in, I crack. Strangely enough, it's Zatanna that hugs me first.
"I'm sorry we weren't friends." She whispers.
"Thanks. But it's never too late, right?" I smile sadly.

The first mission I've been on in months just so happens to be a covert mission looking for Luthor. The man that took Dick from me.
"Do whatever you want, but Luthor's mine." I growl, sitting at the front of the bio-ship.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ah, Miss Gordon. I was wondering when-" I punch Luthor's cheek. "Now what was that for?" He asks calmly.
"You took NightWing!" I scream, grabbing his arms and twisting them behind his back.
"Oh. Then I guess Batman didn't tell you." He ponders, trying not to look hurt as I slam my fist into his ribs. "Well, he must have his reasons." He motions for his bodyguard. "Mercy..." Her arm converts into a gun, but before she can do anything, I throw an EMP on the floor and she deactivates.
"I'm going to enjoy this." I hiss, pulling Luthor's head back as far as I can. I hit him repeatedly with Dick's old escrima sticks. He collapses to the ground, but I don't stop.
"Batgirl." Kaldur's voice says from behind me, but I keep hitting Luthor. He has to pay. "Batgirl, enough! He's down." I drop the sticks and stare at Luthor's bloody body in my hands. What am I turning into?
"I'll...I'll be in the bio-ship." I mutter, quickly walking out the door.
As I get to the ship, I collapse against the wall.
"Keep it together, Gordon. Dick wouldn't want this." I whisper. "No, don't think of him. Not here, not now." But I take a terrible risk and I do think of him. "Dick Grayson..." I whisper, and let a tear slide down my cheek. "I miss you so damn much." That's the breaking point for me. I crash into a pile of tears and silent screams.
"Batgirl?" A soft voice asks behind me. I sit up and wipe my nose.
"Oh, God. Sorry." I sniff, and look up to see a tall blue and red figure. "Superman?"
"Yeah...I was nearby and I heard you crying." Clark puts a hand on my shoulder.
"How close is nearby?" I ask. With super-hearing it could be anywhere from a street away to the Hall of Justice.
"Fortress of Solitude." Clark picks me up. "I heard about NightWing...are you sure you're okay?"
"Clark, do I look okay to you?" I ask, wiping my cheek.
"Sorry, stupid question." He apologizes. "Do you want me to take you home?"
"Maybe not home...can you take me to the Manor? I want to talk to someone."
"Sure Barbara." Before I know it, we're flying at top speed across the country.
"Thanks Clark. I might see you later." I jump into the roof of the manor.
"Yeah, okay. If you need anything, just call. Kara, Kon and I'll hear you." I manage a small smile before he flies off.

Okay, I'm ready to do something I haven't been able to do since the funeral.
I change into civvies and start walking out into the snowy Wayne graveyard. I easily find Dick's new stone.

"Hey." I whisper, sitting at the very end of the grave and crossing my legs, not caring about the snow. "It's me. Sorry I haven't come in a while. It's been pretty hard without you. I didn't realize how much I actually needed you until you were gone." It feels relaxing, talking to Dick like this. "How are things on the other side? Hope I'll see you again. I miss you so much it literally hurts. Right here, Boy Wonder." I point to my heart. "Right here."
