Barbara's POV
"Dick...I...I don't know what to say." From the minute Dick collapsed into my arms when he zetaed back to the cave, I knew what was wrong.
"I'm not going to be gone for long. I just need some space." He sobs into my shoulder.
"But what about me? I'm not going to leave you." I reassure him, stroking his hair holding his head to my chest like a small child.
"You've more than earned yourself a place as leader on the Team. Besides, Kaldur can't do everything by himself."

Kaldur and I stand facing the Team, but out of the corner of my eye, I see Dick. I can't leave him. I won't.
"Actually, I have to pass on my leadership. I have to work out who am I as a hero first." Dick left before he saw me quit. "I'll be back soon, don't worry." I quickly zeta out of the watchtower.

"Babs? Why are you here? You should-"
"I'm not going to leave you by yourself, Dick. You've lost too much. You're going to end up hurting yourself. I can't let you do that. I can't at least try." I don't let the tears prick my eyes.
"Barbara, you don't have to do this." Dick puts his hand on my shoulder.
"I know." I croak. "But I want to."

Dick's POV
"Wait..." I look between Bruce and the newly added Damian. "I'm not going to like this, am I?"
"Nope."

"Dick?" Babs' voice rings through my ear. "Did you hear me?"
"Bruce is...he's..." I stare as the fried remainders. "Batgirl, I think Batman is dead."

"Even when you're gone, I can't get away from you." I growl at the Batman costume in a glass case.
"Dick, I know this is hard for you, but without batman-"
"I know. All bloody hell's gonna break loose." I grumble. "Besides, we can't have Jason as Batman, can we?" I shrug, although inside of me, all I can hear are seven words my thirteen-year-old self promised me, after one particular training exercise.
I don't want to be the Batman, anymore.
