"Alright take a look at this article." I take the laptop from Ian's hands and skim the article. It's from around twenty years ago and the story gives me the chills.

"20 years ago a family started to go crazy. They went to the cops and said someone was in their attic. They said it was a demon or a spirit. A week after they went to the cops the family disappeared. They were eventually found dead in the attic. All except one, he was sent to a mental hospital and died there two years ago." Ian says.

"Wow, that's really something. Of course my mom just had to choose this house."

"Apparently this has been happening for decades. Each time it happens it's exactly 20 years apart, to the day, and one person goes to a mental hospital."

I bit my lip. "You don't think it's gonna happen to my family, right?" I ask nervously.

He scoots closer and hugs me. "Let's hope not." He sighs.

Ian leaves an hour after just hugging me and trying to convince me nothing bad will happen to me or my family. I'm not fully convinced but I'm sure he's right. And it's probably just a story anyways.

I get into my bed and under the covers and try to fall asleep. It takes a while but I eventually fall asleep.

I woke up the next morning to a loud, piercing scream. I jump out of my bed and scramble into the hallway. I see the attic door open and carefully go up the ladder.

I search the best I can in the dark lighting. In the back corner I see a mirror with glass around it. A few feet to the right of it I see Jessica lying with glass all over.

I scream for my parents and run over to where Jessica lay. I take out my phone with shaky hands and dial 9-1-1. I tell them I need an ambulance and they say one is on its way.

My parents have come up by then and we're all crying. The ambulance comes a few minutes later and takes Jessica out on a stretcher.

As they take her out of the attic I hear an unfamiliar voice whisper. "One down, three to go."
