~The morning of the first day of School~

With Serena

"Fletch, Fletchling." is the first thing Serena heard in the morning. She immediately shot up hoping it would be enough to avoid a peck to her forehead. That's when she remembered that she was in her room in the dorm and she had set Fletchling's cries as her alarm. She didn't enjoy it but it worked like a charm. If it made her get out of bed in time, then she would use it.

Serena looked at her clock and saw that it was 7:00. School started at 9:00 so she had plenty of time to get ready for the first day. She looked around to see Sylveon, Delphox, Pancham and Rhyhorn's pokeballs on the desk next to her. Serena then released the first 3 as she thought Rhyhorn might be a bit problematic... especially indoors.

"Good Morning Guys!" she said to the three.

"Phox!"

"Cham"

"Syl"

All three of them greeted her good morning too.

After that, Serena did the daily morning routine in the bathroom consisting of a shower, brushing her teeth etc. Once she finished, she got dressed. (She is wearing her XYZ outfit without the ribbon) Once she was dressed, she looked at her clock to see that it was 7:30. She sat on her bed and thought about her day ahead.

Gary had told the whole group that they would meet someone very interesting today. 'Gary rarely talks about anyone highly so this person has to be quite a character' Serena thought. She was quite excited to meet this person... and all her other friends for that matter. Serena was especially excited to meet Calem. Her Boyfriend. They met last year during the First year of their course. Serena thought that no one could make her happier than Calem has and Calem was the best boyfriend anyone could ever ask for. Well... that's what SHE thought anyway.

She was lost in her thoughts for quite a while and the next time she looked at the clock, it was already 8:00. Serena got up and went to the cafeteria to get breakfast. Calem had texted her that he would meet her there at around 8:00.

Serena got to the Cafeteria and saw Calem sitting on one of the tables with a cup of coffee in his hand. Serena ran up to him as soon as she saw him and gave him a quick peck on the cheek.

"Good Morning!" she said, smiling brightly.

"Good Morning beautiful" He replied smiling back at her.

"I'll go get a cup of coffee, I'll be right back!" Serena said as she left for the counter. Soon, she returned with a cup of coffee in her and and saw Calem staring at someone with an evil smirk on his face. Serena noticed this and followed his gaze to see someone near the breakfast bar. In front of the buffet table stood a boy, about the same height as Calem. He had Raven black hair with a red cap with a half Pokeball logo on it. He had a Pikachu perched up on his shoulder. (Its Ash... we all know it is so lets just say he is wearing his XYZ outfit too.).

'It must be some new kid' she thought. She then looked back at Calem and smiled at his behaviour. Calem had a ritual he always followed. Being the strongest trainer in the school, he liked testing new students with their battling skills. Knowing this, Serena knew exactly what was going through Calem's head at that moment.

"You're going to challenge him to a battle aren't you?" asked Serena.

"Huh, what are you talking abou... Ohh, you noticed! Yeah, I'll have to see how good he is." Calem replied, catching onto what/who Serena was talking about.

"Something about him is a bit annoying though." Calem said. "Maybe it's that goofy grin of his or that stupid rodent on his shoulder he is showing off, but I don't like this guy." Calem said

Serena giggled, "Come on Calem, you're quite grumpy today. Its the first day of the year"

"Exactly!" Calem said with a little pout which made Serena giggle a little more.

Calem's POV

"Hey Serena, look, he is coming this way."

"Oh, yea...WOAH, thats a lot of food on his plate!" she replied

He did have a lot of food on his plate. It was a typical English breakfast with Eggs, Sausages, Beans, Toast etc. His Pikachu was downing a whole bottle of ketchup. I looked over to Serena who was watching him and giggling at his Pikachu. That made my blood boil.

Without any second thoughts, I called him over "Hey, new kid, come over here!"

Ash's POV

I was walking along with my tray full of plate until I heard someone say "Hey, new kid, come over here!"

I looked up to see a guy about my age. He was sort of dressed like me with a long sleeved jacket as opposed to my shot sleeved one. He seemed like a nice guy. Maybe I can be friends with him. I walked over to him. As I was walking towards him, I saw her. She was sitting right next to him looking at me. I froze in my tracks. She was the girl from the Prof. Oak's Summer camp. Those Cerulean eyes and her Honey Blonde hair where clear indications that it was her. She seemed to have cut her hair but that wasn't enough to fool me. I never got her name, but maybe, I will get to meet her now.

I completely forgot that I was now frozen and staring at her. I quickly shook my head and walked over to the guy who called me. He seems to be glaring at me right now. I wonder why...

I walked closer and closer until I was right next to the guy. He then spoke up.

"Hey, you are the new kid right?" he asked

"Yeah, I am. My name is Ash Ketchum. I'm from Pallet Town in the Kanto Region!" I reply with a hint of enthusiasm in my voice

"Ash!? What kind of name is that!?" he replied while sniggering a little.

Alright, I take it back. He doesn't seem like a nice guy and I wouldn't want to be friends with him.

"Anyway" he continued "I am Calem Xavier and I always battle the new students and today, you have the honour of being challenged to a battle by me." he replied.

Wow... this guy's ego is through the roof. And I thought Gary was bad.

"I accept your challenge."

"Good, meet me after school today at the battlefield behind this cafeteria." he said while pointing through the window where the cafeteria was.

"Alright." I say flatly and turn around to leave while giving the girl one last glance.

"I'm Serena, Serena Yvonne." she suddenly exclaimed while giving we a warm smile. I smiled back at her and was about to leave when suddenly, my trailing foot was kicked causing me to trip over.

Calem's POV

"Alright" he said flatly. This guy was starting to annoy me even more.

He was turning around to leave when I saw him glance at Serena one more time. I was about to flip but I held myself back.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, Serena introduces herself while smiling widely at him. He smiles back and that really did it for me. As he turned around an started walking, I kicked his legs causing him to trip over and drop all his food on top of him. I couldn't help but smirk at the scene of him sitting on the ground with his food all over him.

Serena's POV

As Ash was bout to leave again, I couldn't help but think that I have seen him somewhere before. He seems somewhat familiar, but I can't quite put a finger on it.

I was deep in thought but I was soon broken out of it because of a loud crashing sound in font of me. I saw Ash on the floor with food all over him. I was about to help him when I saw that one of the poached eggs landed right on top of his eye giving him a goofy face. I couldn't help but laugh at the sight.

Ash's POV

Next thing I knew, I was on the floor with all my food all over me. I hadn't had dinner yesterday either so I was very hungry and I won't have time to go for food again as class was about to start and I needed to get changed. Thankfully, there weren't a lot of people in the cafeteria to see this. I was about to get up and confront Calem because I knew he was the one who did it but I stopped because I heard something. It was a laugh. It wasn't just any laugh though, it was Serena's laugh. I looked up to see Calem smirking at me and Serena laughing at me. I have learnt to control my emotions but this made me really angry and I know Pikachu could sense my feelings as he got up and stood in front of Calem with its cheeks sparking. I knew better than that though. Pokemon shouldn't be used to hurt humans. We are supposed to happily live together so I stopped Pikachu.

"No Pikachu, don't..."

"Pika?" Pikachu looked back at me with surprise.

I just got up and left the cafeteria and walked back to my room. She isn't the same person I used to know anymore. I know people change but Serena has changed too much. I don't think I can look at her the same way again...

Serena's POV

As I was laughing, I saw him look at me and Calem. I was scared. If I was in his situation, I would be furious. I saw his Pikachu jump off his shoulder and spark its cheeks but then I heard him again.

"No Pikachi, don't..." He said. His voice was littered with anger and sorrow.

I was surprised. He managed to hold his emotions back and Calem and I just stared at him as we left the tray and the food on the floor and walked out of the cafeteria.

I felt horrible for laughing at him. I then turned to Calem who was still smirking.

"That wasn't a nice thing to do Calem!"

"Oh, come on, it was just a little joke! He'll get over it!" He replied

*sigh* "Alright, if you say so..."

"So, ready for class?" He asked while grabbing hold of my hand.

"Yeah, lets go!" I smiled at him.

Ash's POV

Well, at least the clothes are sorted out. I still can't believe that the Serena I saw today was the sweet and innocent girl I met back in summer camp. I'll just have to forget that for now.

"Hey Pikachu, who do you think we should take on the first day to school?"

"Pika Pikachu" he said shrugging his shoulders.

"I guess I'll take the little ones with me then, so you OK with Bulbasaur, Totodile, Corphish, Snivy and Oshawott coming along?"

"Piika!!" Pikachu exclaimed while fist pumping clearly showing his approval.

"Alright, its settled then, lets go buddy!"

I clipped the Pokeballs onto my belt and ran to the Headteacher's office.

"Come in!" said a familiar voice.

I opened the door to find someone quite unexpected sitting behind the desk.

"Professor Sycamore?"

"Ash! Its nice to see you again! When I head you got crowned as the Champion of Alola, I just had to have you in this institution!" He said

I scratched the back of my head with embarrassment. I haven't gotten used to the whole "Champion" thing yet.

"Thanks Professor!"

"Ash, this is Mr Cedar. He is a Professor under training and he will show you around the school today. You'll be missing all your classes today because of this. You will get your lunch break though." He replied

I always just for joy when it comes to food but honestly, I didn't want to go back to that cafeteria again.

"Thanks!"

"Alright, lets go Ash." said Mr Cedar.

He showed me around one half of of the school. It was beautifully modern and full of amazing equipment and facilities.

It was soon lunch time and Mr Cedar went to the staff room to get his lunch while I sat on a clear patch of grass away from all the students. This wasn't very difficult as it was a massive school with only about 200 students attending it. I was very thankful of the fact that I got to attend this school. I felt very lucky.

I was sat on the grass but I didn't want to be alone with my thoughts so I released my Pokemon. All of them came out and began to play with each other. Just watching them play put a smile on my face. That'e when I heard someone speak.

"Those are your Pokemon!?" he shiggered.

I turned around. "Calem!"

Serena was standing right next to him... holding his hand. Now I understood everything. I didn't care though. It was her life and she could do anything she wanted with it.

"What was your name...Ketchup? Something like that?" He said as Serena giggled.

"Ash... Its Ash"

"Anyway, if those are your Pokemon them you must be a pathetic trainer. They are all unevolved. Your Pikachu is the only evolved Pokemon you have. No wonder you carry it around on your shoulder and show it off all the time." He said.

"Having a Pikachu is nothing to showoff about you know" he continued "I don't even know if I should battle you or not. It will be an easy victory... but I guess I could be nice enough to teach you a thing or two during the battle. Remember this though, I won't hold back. I will humiliate you in front of everybody. The whole school will be watching this one." He said as he smirked and left.

I was sat there... still looking at my playing Pokemon... still smiling.

"Calem... you have no idea how big of a mistake. No holding back you say? Well... I won't hold back either then." I said to myself.

Just as soon as I said that, the bell signalling the end of lunch rang and I soon reunited with Mr Cedar to finish the tour of the school.

Hmm.. Mr Cedar would probably make a great Professor. After all, his surname is the name of a tree!

The tour finished a couple of minutes after all the lessons were finished and the school day was over.

It was time for the battle against Calem and I knew what I had to do. Get my team of 6.
