You may be walking through the darkest time in your life right now. Maybe your heart is numb from pain. You don't know how to stop the aching, but you can't take it anymore.

Why does it have to hurt so much?

Why me?

Maybe you lost your parents. Maybe you're battling a terminal disease. Maybe you're stuck in a vicious cycle of self-harm. Maybe the world is just too much for you.

But what if someone overcame the world for you?

What?

What if you had someone to carry your burdens? Someone who really cared, not just said so.

Fat chance, you think, there's no one left that cares about me.

But what if you were wrong?

What if there was a God who loved you.

God? God doesn't exist. If God existed, my life wouldn't be so miserable.

What if there was a God who knows every possiblity in every situation. A God who picked the best outcome for you. A God who only allowed evil if it would turn out for good.

Surely God could find another way. Why would He allow this pain? There's no excuse.

I believe God is sovereign. I believe He knows what He's doing.

How do you know that? How can you prove it?

I can't. But you can't disprove it.

Then why is there evil? You say God uses evil to foster good, but why allow evil in the first place.

God allowed his creation to have free will. If we didn't have a choice between right and wrong, we'd be like robots. God wants a relationship out of love with us, not a forced relationship. If God forced you to "love" him, you wouldn't feel so loving towards him, would you? Just as if a guy on the street came up to you and said, "Love me or die!" Are you going to love him? No. You'll say you will in the moment. but you can never love someone who tries to force themselves into your life.

Yeah, well couldn't a God who created the universe figure out to factor freewill and no evil at the same time?

God did. When Adam and Eve (the first people) were created, the world was perfect. There was no disease, evil, hate, malice, or shame. People didn't even wear clothes because there was no lust or evil association with the body. There were no weeds either. Life really was perfect.

There was an option to allow "sin" or "evil" into the world, yet life was without sin. When Adam and Eve decided to rebel, sin entered the world. Now we have sin, disease, hate, and shame. God could've left us in the dust to deal with the consequences but He didn't. He sent Jesus to pay the price (or punishment) which is death. Now we can be right with God when we accept what Jesus did. We accept the gift of taking our punishment away.

Pray this prayer and mean it in your heart:

Dear God,

I believe that you died to set me free; I know you rose again, overcoming death. I accept your gift of forgiveness and thank you for it. I'm in a rough place right now, God. I ask you to help me find hope in you while I walk through this dark part in my life.

In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
