Chapter 54 ~ How could I forget you
Isla's POV
What is wrong with me? Why did I kiss him back? Don't get me wrong, I like Killian, I really do. But I also like Hayden and Luke. This is all my fault. I should have never kissed him on the cheek. I didn't mean anything by it. I thought that it would be a cute picture. What the hell is wrong with me? I'm sure Nick, Sofia and Killian are mad at me for running away. To make matters worse, Sofia and Nick were fighting, and it's all my fault. If they break up, I'll never forgive myself.
Since I have no clue as to where anything is around here, I head back to the car and wait for them to show up. I don't want to cry, but the tears still find a way to slip down my face. I'm so scared that I've screwed things up. Like always, I wallow in self-pity. I've become accustomed to it by now.
I soon hear footsteps getting closer to me. Well, at least we can go home now. "Hey, are you okay?" a voice that I don't recognize asks. I look up to find a girl about my age hovering over me.
I quickly wipe my tears. How embarrassing. It seems like people are always finding me in this type of situation. "I'm okay. Thank you for asking," I reply as I stand up from the ground.
The girl gives me a concerned look, "Are you sure? You look really upset. I'm not trying to pry; I just want to make sure you're okay."
I give her a small smile. "Yes, I'm okay. I just wasn't thinking clearly and did something I shouldn't have done."
"I'm Zoe, Zoe Hunter," she says, putting her hand out for me to shake.
"Isla Camarillo."
"Are you here alone? If you are, you can join me and my friend. He should be here any minute now."
"I'm here with a few of my friends too." At least I hope they're still my friends.
Soon a guy joins here. "Isla this is my best friend, Thomas White and Thomas—"
"You!" he interrupts.
"Me?" I ask, confused. He looks familiar, but I can't figure from where.
"Yes, you. How could I forget you? You and your boyfriend made a huge mess at the grocery store that I had to clean up."
Crap. Panic rushes through my veins. "I am so sorry. I don't normally do things like that. It was my friend's idea. We've just been through a lot lately, so he was trying to get me to have some fun, which by no means does that make it okay for what we did. Do you want money? I can give you money. Oh gosh, once I start ranting, I just can't seem to stop." I ramble on before coving my face with my hands in embarrassment.
"It's okay," he chuckles. "And, no I don't want your money. I'm Thomas, as my friend already told you."
I slowly look at him and shake his hand. "Isla."
"So, that guy with you wasn't your boyfriend? Y'all seemed really close."
"No, he's a friend. Him and five other friends live with me. Plus, my two younger siblings and my friends' younger sister. We're like a family."
"He seemed to like you more than in a friend way." Thomas smirks.
I scrunch up my nose. This is not the type of conversation that I had planned on having with strangers. "He does, as well as three other guys that live with me. Wow. I have no earthly clue on why I am telling the two of you this. I'm sorry, I can't seem to get my mouth under control right now." No shit. That's why you kissed Killian.
"I don't think I've seen you around before. Are you new?" Zoe questions.
"Yes. We just moved here last week."
"What school are y'all going to?" Thomas asks.
"Ridgewood Heights."
The two grin at each other. "That's where we go. I'm surprised they let y'all in halfway through the year."
"It wasn't easy, but with the help of my friend's parents, they accepted all seven of us."
"If you want us to, we can show y'all around on your first day," Zoe offers.
I nod my head, "That would be great."
"Isla, for fuck's sake. Quit running away. You had us...woah. Um, I didn't know you were talking to people," Nick says, turning red with embarrassment. Killian and Sofia are giving me a weird look.
Thomas glares at Nick for a few seconds, then turns towards me. "Are these some of the people you live with?"
I nod my head. "Damn, girl. Does everyone in your house look like supermodels?" Zoe asks.
"You mean do they all speak with such vulgar in the presence of a lady?" Thomas spats.
If looks could kill, Thomas would be a dead man. Killian and Nick are glaring at him. "Angel, you scared us by running off. Are you okay? They aren't bothering you, are they?" He then leans down and whispers, "I think we need to talk."
"Yes, we do," I whisper back, before I introduce everyone. "This is Thomas and Zoe. Thomas is the guy from the grocery store that had to clean up the mess that Luke and I made. Again, I am very sorry about that Thomas. Thomas and Zoe, these are some of my friends that I was telling you about. This is Sofia and she's my best friend. She is the only other girl in the house besides our two little sisters. This is Killian, he's Sofia's twin, and this is Nick."
"Isla's big brother," he says in a low tone.
"You're her brother?" Thomas asks, raising his eyebrow. "Y'all look nothing alike."
"We're not technically siblings, but the type of relationship we have is one of siblings," I explain.
"Which means if anyone messes with Isla, I'll kick their ass," Nick says in a stern voice.
Zoe looks between Nick and Sofia. "Is that the type of relationship that the two of you have as well?"
Sofia looks down at her feet with a sad expression. My heart breaks for her. This is all my fault that the two of them are fighting. Nick stares at Sofia for a second then takes her hand in his and pulls her close to him. "No, Sofia is the love of my life." Sofia freezes and just stares at Nick.
"I—I'm the l—love of your life? Even after the fight we just had?" She asks cautiously.
Nick wraps his arms around her and embraces her into a hug. "Of course. I love you, Sofia. It was just an argument. We don't have to agree on everything," he says, kissing her forehead.
Tears are rolling down mine, Sofia, and Zoe's face. "I love you too, Nick."
"They're so cute! I want a relationship like theirs," Zoe squeals.
"Yeah, yeah...they're cute to y'all, but it's disgusting for me to see my little sister make out with one of my friends," Killian whines.
"Anyways," I say, getting everyone's attention. "We will be going to the same school as Zoe and Thomas. Zoe has offered to show us around."
Zoe rubs the back of her neck. "I'm not sure if that's such a good idea anymore."
"Why? Did we do something wrong?" I ask, confused as to why she would suddenly change her mind.
"No, but just look at y'all. Y'all look like supermodels. Y'all won't want to be friends with us when you can be friends with the popular kids. I bet everyone loved y'all at your last school."
Sofia, Nick, Killian, and I look at each other before we start laughing. Thomas glares at the four of us. "No need to make fun of us. Zoe was trying to be nice, but I can tell y'all will fit right in with the people who are on top of the social ladder."
"Please forgive us. We weren't laughing at y'all. We were laughing at the thought of us being called popular. We were at the bottom of the social ladder. We'll all of my friends were once at the top, but when they decided to be friends with me, they all lost their social status," I tell them truthfully.
Zoe and Thomas give me a disbelieving look. "How?" Thomas asks in bewilderment.
"There's this girl who is jealous of Isla, so she made up tons of rumors about her. She made Isla's life a living hell, and when we refused to stop being friends with Isla, she came after us, too," Nick explains.
"I'm sorry to hear that, but if y'all want to hang with us at school, we wouldn't mind. " Zoe says. "But I do think the popular kids will try to get y'all to hang with them."
"Yeah, that's not going to happen. We've already fallen from grace and find it much happier without being at the top of the social ladder," Sofia says matter-of-factly.
Zoe smiles. "It will be nice to finally have some girls to hang out with. I'm always hanging out with Thomas and our one other friend who is also a guy."
Sofia and I laugh, "We know how it is to be around guys constantly," Sofia says. "We live with five guys."
"That's what Isla was telling us," Zoe says. "I couldn't even imagine what that must be like."
"It's not too bad. All of the guys are really awesome and would do anything to protect us," Sofia responds.
"Maybe y'all can come over and meet the others before we start school on Monday," Killian tells Thomas.
"Yeah, we would like to. Would it be cool if we brought our other friend that hangs out with us too?"
"Yeah, there will be plenty of food," Nick says laughing.
Thomas and Zoe stare at a laughing Nick as I roll my eyes. "He's laughing because I may order too much food when we order take out."
"May?" Killian asks with a hint of mischief in his eyes.
"It's better to have more than not enough," I huff, causing everyone, including Thomas and Zoe, to laugh at me. After everyone is finished laughing, we exchange numbers with Thomas and Zoe with the plan for them to come over on Saturday.
Nick, Sofia, Killian and I get into the car and drive home. Suddenly, I feel sick, knowing that I still need to talk to Killian about what happened earlier, and I know I need to also tell Hayden, Luke, and Tyler.
