Isla's POV
The week after Tyler was admitted into the hospital dragged on. It seems as if it was the school's goal to cause me and my friends hell. Thankfully, the two weeks after that, which are also the two weeks leading up to Thanksgiving break, were much better. The cheerleaders and football team were out of state for some special camp. I don't know why the principal would approve for them to miss two whole weeks of school, but I was glad they were gone.
Without Chelsea, the cheerleaders, and the stupid football team being at school, my friends and I seemed to go unnoticed. No one has tried or said anything to us. It's as if we don't even exist. Trust me when I say it's much better to be invisible than having the entire school against you. It's upsetting to know that Chelsea really is the cause for making my high school years a living hell.
Tyler hasn't been back to school since the day he was attacked. None of us have gone to check on him or anything, and I believe his mom is a little upset about that. She has texted me several times saying he is getting better, but that he could really use some company. I have politely declined each time coming up with some sort of an excuse about having to watch my sister and brother. I don't think his parents know that my parents have passed away. I'm not even sure if Tyler knows.
Since the incident in the nurse's office, Killian and Sofia have explained to us about their parents passing away and how they live with their uncle. From what they have said about their uncle he seems like a really nice person, but every time he is brought up when Emma is around, she starts acting weird. I'm thinking there is more to their story, but it's not my place to pry. They will tell us if and when they're ready too.
Since we are off the entire next week, we are going to all celebrate Thanksgiving at my place. Killian and Sofia said their uncle will be out of town, so it works out perfectly. Isaac, Isabelle, Luke, Hayden, Nick, Sofia, Killian and Emma are my new family. We are not a typical family, but I couldn't ask for a better set of people to consider as family, and I feel blessed that I get to spend Thanksgiving with all of them.
After school, Hayden and Luke are going grocery shopping to buy everything we need for this upcoming week. It will probably take them a while at the store, because they have to get stuff for Thanksgiving and a ton of extra stuff because we are supposed to be having a blizzard coming in by the end of the week that could have people stranded in their homes. It seems a little early in the season for that type of storm, but all three weather stations are reporting the same thing. Mrs. Ford is keeping Isaac and Isabelle for the weekend because she is taking them along with her daughter Madison to Disney on Ice. Isabelle was super excited, but Isaac was complaining that it sounded girly. I think he will enjoy it, though. This year it's based on Toy Story. Plus, he may or may not have a small crush on Madison.
While Luke and Hayden are at the store, Nick and I are going to do some serious cleaning. The house isn't messy, but it hasn't had a good cleaning since before my parents passed away. Because we are having Thanksgiving dinner here, I want to make sure everything is nice and spotless. Although with a bunch of teenage guys around, it probably won't stay spotless for long.
Hayden will be cooking the turkey and most of the sides with the help of the guys. Sofia and I are going to be making the dessert. To everyone's delight, Killian, Sofia and Emma are going to be coming over either late Tuesday or early Wednesday and staying through Friday. The boys have also insisted on playing football before Thanksgiving dinner. They said it's a Thanksgiving tradition. I think it's more of a guy thing, but whatever.
After picking up Isabell and Isaac from their school, I drive us all home. "Isabelle, Isaac, hurry and get your stuff together. Hayden and Luke are going to drop y'all off at Madison's house."
They run upstairs and grab their bags. Before leaving, they both hug and kiss me. "Love you, sissy. Bye," they say in unison. Sometimes it freaks me out how they do that, but I guess it's a twin thing. Maybe I should ask Killian and Sofia if they do that too, since they're twins as well.
"Where should we start?" Nick asks.
"I guess we should start in the kitchen and make our way into the living room." In the kitchen I wipe the counter and cabinets while Nick goes through the pantry and throws out anything that is expired. I then wash dishes, and Nick sweeps and mops the floor.
When we are finished with the kitchen, we work on the living room. We vacuum, dust, and put away anything that is misplaced. "Where are Sofia, Emma, and Killian going to sleep?" Nick asks.
Hesitantly, I look at him. "Emma is going to stay in Isabelle's room with her, Sofia with me and I thought Kilian might stay with one of y'all." I say sheepishly.
Nick rolls his eyes. "Tsk. Tsk. Isla. You shouldn't assume things." He lectures me like a small child. I frown, causing him to burst into a fit of laughter. "I'm kidding, Isla. Killian can stay in my room with me."
I jump onto Nick hugging him. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You really had me worried there for a second."
He hugs me in return and laughs. "I'd better be your favorite now."
I stick my finger over my mouth. "Shhh... you are, but don't tell the others."
"Yeah, right! I bet you tell all of us that." I playfully wink at him before throwing one of the couch pillows at him.
"Isla, how dare you? We just cleaned this living room and you're already making a mess," he says as he starts chasing me.
I run around the couches, but he easily catches me and starts tickling me.
"Stop!" I cry, breathless.
He continues to tickle me. "Not until you say I'm your favorite."
I'm too busy being tickled by Nick to notice Hayden and Luke walking to the living room carrying grocery bags. "Fine. You. Win," I say between laughter. "You. Are. My. Favorite."
Nick stops tickling, "See, that wasn't so hard."
"Wow. My feelings are hurt now." Hayden says with a mock hurt expression. "I thought I was your favorite."
"Umm, no, I'm her favorite." Luke retorts.
Nick sits beside me. "Well now we have a problem, Isla. Everyone thinks that they are your favorite. So, who is it?"
I stand up and brush myself off. I grin at all of them. "My favorite is the same as all of you..." They give me a confused look. "We all know that I am each one of your favorites. Well, my favorite is myself." I laugh.
"Whatever." Nicks says. "Let's help Luke and Hayden bring the groceries in." Nick opens the door to my SUV and stands there in awe. "Holy hell! What did y'all do, buy the whole store?" he exclaims.
Luke slaps him on the back of the head. "No. you idiot. We bought enough food for the week to feed nine at least. Plus, the stuff for Thanksgiving and stuff for the storm that they say is coming, but we all know it's too early in the season for the type of storm they're predicting."
"Oh," Nick says sheepishly.
"Better safe than sorry though." Hayden says, laughing.
After what seems like a trillion trips of bringing groceries bags in, we are finally able to rest on the couch. Hayden puts on some sport show on tv, and it makes me sleepy. After yawning a few times, I lay my head in Hayden's lap as he plays gently with my hair. I love when people play with my hair.
Hayden's POV
Isla fell asleep with her head in my lap. I gently play with her hair, but Luke soon interrupts me. "Hey, it's getting kind of late. Are you going to make dinner or do we need to order something?" he asks with irritation lacing his voice.
I roll my eyes at him when he turns around. We had gotten something from McDonalds before we came home, he just doesn't like seeing me and Isla spend time together. "She was tired, and I was letting her get some sleep." I growl.
"Yeah well she's probably going to be hungry too," he snaps back at me.
"Nick!" I yell out while covering Isla ears, hoping not to disturb her sleep.
He comes running down the stairs. "Yeah?"
"Can you carry Isla to her room? She fell asleep and I don't want to disturb her, but Luke is hungry and wants me to cook dinner already."
Nick gracefully picks Isla up. "The two of you are too much," he chuckles, referring to Luke and me, as he carries Isla to her room.
"Since you're so hungry, you help me cook dinner so it won't take so long," I tell Luke. He grumbles something under his breath but compiles. We work well in the kitchen together, making chicken and rice with broccoli and cheese."
Luke grabs some plates and cups to set the table for dinner. There is a continuous buzzing sound that is starting to irritate me. "What is buzzing?" I ask Luke.
We both look around for what is causing the buzzing sound. "Found it." Luke yells from the living room. "It's Isla's cell phone. Sofia keeps calling her."
I grab the phone from Luke and frown when I see that there are five missed calls from Sofia. "I'll take Isla and her phone. The chicken is ready. Can you pull it out of the oven for me please?" Luke nods his head as I run upstairs to take Isla her phone and to let her and Nick know dinner is ready.
I knock on her door and slowly open it when she doesn't answer. She's sleeping peacefully on her bed. I hate to wake her, but she needs to eat, and Sofia is still calling her. "Isla. Isla." I shake her gently. "Love, it's time for dinner, and I think you might need to call Sofia. She has called you several times."
She stretches and sleepily smiles at me. Her hair is a mess, but she is still beautiful. "Thanks, Hayden." She yawns. "I'll call Sofia and then freshen up. I'll be downstairs soon. Y'all can start eating without me."
Isla's POV
Hayden tosses me my phone before leaving me alone in my room. Sofia has now called seven times. I check to see if she has texted me, because normally she will text me if I don't answer my phone. I check my messages but there are none from her. I look through my contact to call her back, but my phone starts ringing again. Her name flashes across the screen and I immediately answer this time.
"Hey Sofia, Sorry for not answering soon I feel asleep," I admit.
Expecting to hear some sort of sarcastic response I am confused when I hear a small fragile voice. "A-Angel? H-help us," the innocent voice stutters
Fear races through my mind. Sofia is not who called me. "Emma?" I whisper.
She's crying and I can hear yelling and things being thrown in the background. "P-please help. H-he's hurting them."
"Emma, where are Sofia and Killian?" I ask in a calm and steady voice. I'm freaking out, but I don't want to scare her more than she already is.
Her voice is so soft and broken that I barely hear, but when I do, it makes my blood run cold. "Hurt. Blood is everywhere. Killian..." She sobs. "...won't get up." I hear a girl screaming in pain in the background. "He has Sofia."
With her still on the phone I quickly throw some clothes on. "Where are you, Emma?"
Her voice is barely audible. "Hiding. He's looking for me." She whispers. "Angel, save me. He hurt them already. I'm next."
"I'm coming, Emma," but before I can say anything else, the call is disconnected.
I run down the stairs skipping several steps and praying I won't fall. "Hayden, Luke, Nick. Help." I cry frantically. "We have to go now. Something has happened to Kill, Sofia and Emma."
They all immediately jump away from the table running to my SUV, dinner long forgotten. "What's wrong?" Hayden questions with fear in his voice as we get into the SUV.
Luke is driving us this time. He pulls out frantically from the driveway causing my tires to screech leaving black tracks in the street. "It wasn't Sofia calling. It was Emma," I say out of breath. "I don't know what happened, but she said that he hurt them. She said there was blood everywhere and Killian wasn't moving." I cry. Oh God, what if he's dead? "There was screaming in the background. Emma said he was coming after her next. She's hiding somewhere at her house. She was begging for me to save her."
Hayden wraps his arms around me. "Shh, shh, calm down. We'll be there soon, and we will help her, Killian, and Sofia," Hayden whispers in my ear, trying to comfort me.
Luke pulls up to their driveway and kills the engine. We walk to their door, where we can hear screaming and things being thrown from inside. Nick reaches for the door handle but turns his head to look at me first. In a very low voice he says, "Stay behind us and if any one of us says run, then run." Nick turns the doorknob and luckily, it is unlocked. He slowly opens the door, letting us see the living room. The sight before us is more than I can bear.
