Chapter #35

(A/N 1.2K READS!?!?)

(Jason's POV)

I watch Sky, at least that's what I think he likes to be called, walk out the tent with his pretty necklace. But he'll come back, I'm sure of it. I think he just wants some alone time. He never ever let anyone be sad for long when he played with me at the castle. I was either with him or Ty while dad was working. "Sky will come back, he won't be gone for long", I say out loud.

"I don't think that'll be anytime soon", Mitch mumbles, defeat evident in his voice. "C'mon Biggums, give Sky a little bit of time to calm down. He seemed to be stressing a lot over everything", Jerome throws in. "Should I try and go after Sky? I could just follow him see where he's going", Ian says while fiddling with his glasses. "Maybe you better. Try to bring him back if you can", Ty asks. Ian nods before leaving. I hope that they come back soon. I miss Sky already. "Quinten, can you watch Jason for a while so we can start going over plans for attacking the castle? We're going to be outnumbered three to one as it is now", Aleasa sighs. I wine when Quinten nervously guides me outside, but I don't argue.

The sunlight blinds me a little bit when we get out of the tent. I'm still carrying my helmet because I don't want to wear it right now. "Are you a fish?", I ask Quinten as we walk. "N-No. I'm not a fish, I'm an amphibian", Quinten corrects. I feel like he would've snapped at me if he wasn't so uneasy with Sky gone. He must not like being called a fish. He really smells like one though.

I don't know exactly what happened next, but it was like my brain just decided to that I needed to move. It felt like someone was waiting for me. Like someone was looking for me, but calling out with their mind instead of voice. And I feel a strong wave of longing when I feel this call. The strangest thing is that I recognize it. Dad used to be able to bring me to him like this, but it wasn't as strong. And it doesn't feel like Dad. Either way, my instincts quickly order me to follow it. I burst into a sprint, as fast as I can with my braced leg, and Quinten yells for me to stop. I keep going. Quinten tries to catch up with me, but he can't go under fallen trees and bushes as quick as I can. Low hanging branches also slap him in the face while I'm too short for them to hit me. I also had put my helmet on before running. The branches and debree just slid past the surface of my smooth space suit.  The feeling seems to be leading me somewhere, telling me when to turn or duck.

I hear Quinten skid to a stop and abruptly run back the way we came as I enter the clearing. I might have done the same if I didn't have the feeling of safety by being here. In front of me stood at least a hundred people, most watching from the trees. They all carry staffs or spears instead of swords or bows. All have a slimmer build. But what's wired is their pale skin, gray eyes, and black hair. They all seem to share these same features. A few somehow have one eye glowing a piercing white. But I'm not scared.

One of them is closer to me and more in the middle of the clearing. He wears chain armor that is more ornately designed then the rest of the people. A white mask hides everything except his eyes, dark blue swirls painted on. But his eyes, his mitch-matched eyes that are the same colors as my own, are looking me over just as I have been looking over him. I feel like he is the one in charge here, and also who somehow gave me the feeling to find them.

"Jase? Son of Len, advisor to the former GoldenEye king?", he asks me. His voice is muffled from the mask; rough and scratchy as if not used very often. He also said my name like 'Jase', but I remember Dad calling me Jase once in a while. "My name is Jason. But Dad sometimes calls me Jase", I confess to the familiar stranger. "Is it ok if I see your face?", he says while tilting his head to the side. I nod before undoing the clasps on my helmet, and then lifting it off my head.

Upon seeing my not-so-unique-anymore eyes, he suddenly surged forward and wraps his arms around me in a hug. I squeak a little at the contact. "I'm so happy to finally meet you, Jase! My name is Don, and I'm your cousin", he cheers, and I can tell from his voice that he's smiling. "My cousin?", I ask in confusion. "Yep", Don explains excitedly, "Our dads are brothers. The only reason we haven't met before is because Len came to this place to keep the two kingdom's relationship stable. He was suppose to come back with you when the war started, but he can be so stubborn......". Usually I would have been very suspicious about Don's story, but I can't help but feel like it's true. And calling Don family seems to fit just right. I somehow already trust him.

Loud crashing through the trees makes Don let go of me and stand up. Mitch and Jerome come bursting out of the trees, skidding to a stop when they see the silent army. Ty runs up from beside them with Quinten nervously standing in the tree line. The two groups watch each other for a moment before Ty tires to take over the situation. "My name is Ty, and I'm in charge of the camp to the south of here. Can I ask what you want with Jason?", he says calmly. "I'm sorry for bringing Jase here, but I needed to get my cousin's attention somehow", Don says while looking down at me. Ty, Jerome, and Quinten gawk at us in confusion. "Wait a second, aren't you a Zemrlt? From the kingdom to the west?", Mitch asks with a raised eyebrow. "Yep, that's me. My name is Don, eighth in line for the throne of the Liblicen Kingdom", Don says, more authority  showing in his voice then when he was talking to me. "Then how are you related to Jason?", Jerome questions.

"That is a very good question. I assume that you don't know how our kingdoms first became allies, then?", Don asks. "I know that we were once at war, but not who won", Ty says. "Nobody won. Both sides stopped fighting because of our kingdoms's common ancestor", Dan says as if it's the most well known thing in the world, "His name was Mu (Mew). The Liblicen Prince and GoldenEye Princess fell in love and had a son. That's where Jase and I have one blue eye from. The mother was soon killed, and Mu was left in GoldenEye when he was just a baby. He was raised in a church and forced to wear a mask. That's why I wear a mask. Mu eventually stopped the war and started the peace between our kingdoms".

"So you technically could rule the GoldenEye Kingdom!?", Mitch asks, surprised by the story. "No, I haven't lived here, so I couldn't. But Jase here does have a claim on the throne if he wanted it", Don slightly giggles while glancing down at me again. I think he's a few years younger then Ty, but I'm not sure because of  his pretty mask. I'll let Sky do the king stuff, but I like the story of how Mu saved everyone. And I like the blue swirls on Don's mask.

"So...... can I ask why you're here now? I thought you guys didn't want any part of this war?", Ty asks, getting to the point. "You humans have been fighting squids off on and for thousands of years. They've never been able to beat you before, so we just thought it'd be like all the other times. It's taken us this long to bring troops over here because we didn't know there was still a resistance against the squids. No sense in drawing attention to ourselves for no reason. But Jase's dad recently contacted my Queen and gave us directions based on a tracker in Jase's suit. It's also in your benefit that Zemrlt have very strong bonds with family", Don explains. Dad put a tracker in my space suit? I'm glad that he at least knows where I am.

Ty thinks for a minute before stepping forward and shaking Don's hand. "Well , I'd be a very poor General if I didn't except help every now and then, we're glad to have you, Don".

So....... oops. I didn't originally intend for this to happened, but the crossover just kinda flowed together. The Zemrlt are from one of my other books called "A Child Named Mu". (Not released yet)

To sum them up, they are basically a cousin to the human race in a way. Popular belief is that they are descended from withers. Most have pale skin, dark hair, and gray eyes. They also have ridges on their sides, from their rib bones acting as partial armor. This armor is immune from potions or magical attacks by mages. Most are pretty mellow, but Don's more energetic. What you'll mainly notice about them is how they rarely speak. They have a system of sign language to communicate. The only time they don't talk with their hands is when the other person won't understand.

Family bonds are very strong amongst the Zemrlt. So strong, that they can 'call' each other when they are close enough together. When a very close family member dies, the remaining family members will have one eye that turns to a glowing white. This allows them to see the spirits of the deceased. They appear as shadows, not being able to make sound or interact with the environment. In the direct line of royalty, it's rumored that they can interact with the spirits beyond just seeing them, but it's a closely guarded secret that few know.
