Chapter #23
(Mitch's POV)
"What? What's wrong with my back? And of corse my injuries are fine. A good nap and I'm ready for blood", Sky says while giggling. I don't buy it. There's definitely something up with Sky. I mean, I know he's crazy, but there's something else too. He could be one of the world's most dangerous people, and here he is, joking and giggling his days away. I don't understand him. His insanity and skills with a sword make him dangerous, but he seems to radiate an aura of friendliness.
The way he fights is one of the strangest things about him. Old tactics and moves from the Goldeneye army mix in with what you could call the 'assassin' fighting style. I can tell that his trained eye picks out even the smallest details of a person. He notices more then we think. He was able to react to the squids just as fast as I did. He could of been one of the leading captains back in the old days if he fought like that. He is more then he looks.
But if he did receive the same kind of training I did, he would of had to be way younger then 12 when he started. Most of us who are here now, were just kids when the war started. Plenty of kids helped fight, but with Sky's type of battle style, that is close to mirroring mine, not every solider was trained like that. And he should still be limping from his injury on his leg. He was limping right after the battle, but now seems fine. He's keeping secrets.
And how could he know about my past? Nobody here knows about it expect the people who were there. And I've told nobody why he isn't here with me. Nobody was around to see, so how does a random, and insane, guy suddenly pop up with all the answers? Sky is hiding something.
"So, you probably wondering why your all here. I actually have a few questions for Quinten if he'll help", Ty says as I start paying attention to what's around me. I see Quinten standing almost behind Sky, like he'll protect him. Another strange thing. "Y-Ya. I'll h-help", He stutters. And what's with his stutter? He's only said a few scentences without it.
"Thanks for the help. We can use all the help we can get these days", Ty says with a small sigh. "Anyways, we need any useful information you can remember about the squids. I'm also really curious to how you ended up wit them", he says. Quinten almost instantly locks up with the last question. He avoids eye contact even more then usual, he knees are stiff, and he digs his fingernails into his palms. And Sky notices it, too. "It's ok buddy. I'll make up an excuse for you if you don't want to say anything", Sky interjects. "N-No it's ok", Quinten says, taking a deep breath.
"I'm a hybrid. My grandpa was a h-human. The s-squids don't like hybrids i-if they don't have any squid i-in them", Quinten explains. Wait, he's a hybrid? He looks like a full...... whatever he is, to me. "The squids t-took m-me when I w-was ten. They thought t-they could train me as a......... w-weapon. It's o-obviously backfiring o-on them", he says with a small laugh, "When I was b-brought here, it was my first time f-fighting on a battlefield. I didn't k-kill anyone, just defended myself".
So that's why he only shot water at me when we were battling. I wonder what he can do when he is trying to fight? "I don't understand why they'd keep you for so long. I'm sorry you had to go though that", Ty murmurs. The old Mitch may have said a kind word, but that Mitch died a long time ago. Now, I'm just what's left. Sky's been strangely silent during this. I wonder what he's thinking?
"There's o-one more thing I have to tell", Quinten says. "What's that?", I ask him. "I can make you a map", he says with the first smile I've seen on him. "You can!? Do you know where the squid camps are!? There supply routs!? This could change everything!", Ty gushes. He immediately pulls out a box underneath the table and take a map from it. The map shows the entire continent, the Goldeneye kingdoms in the middle. I heard that there's been an extremely bad mob problem on one of the other continents, but we have our own problems to worry about at the moment.
Quinten and Ty are bent over the map with a few markers, Ian who-apparently-never-talks leaves the first chance he gets. There's something up with him too. That just leaves me and Sky standing awkwardly in silence. "So, what's it like being crazy?", I randomly ask him. I might of tried to pick a friendlier topic, but I'm still not completely over what he was talking about earlier.
"Not that bad actually. Makes things a lot more colorful", Sky giggles. Does he see color different from his insanity? Is that possible? Why does he giggle so much? I'm just about to ask him what colors he sees when I realize that he's messing with me. My lips turn into a frown and I huff in annoyance. "Oh c'mon. That was funny. Almost as good as budder!", Sky laughs so hard that he falls onto the ground.
Yep. I have a lot more to learn about this guy.
