Chapter #2

A/N I think that I'll start doing weekly updates for you guys since I'm getting to the end of the book. Either I'll finish the book and start daily updates, or I'll run out of chapters in 37 weeks.....

(Sky's POV)

The wagon suddenly lurches forward, making Aleasa and I stumble to to the side. I hear shouts from outside, and the neigh of horses. "W-What's going on?" I shout. "They must of found all the people hiding here. They're taking us now to be...... sold", Aleasa says while trying to see out of the cracks in the wood. A shiver runs through me her words. Sold. Just like a piece of property or tamed animal.

"I really wish I new if I had anyone looking for me. I can't bear not knowing", I admit to her, "Do you have any family left?". "My parents both worked at the palace. They were the first to get killed, but they managed to get me out. I became a solider and fought in the war alongside the people of GoldenEye. I was only captured a few hours ago", she responds. We sink into silence as we listen to the turning of the wooden wheels.

"So you don't remember anything beyond a few hours ago? And you woke up in between dead bodies?", Aleasa asks. I nod my head in confirmation. "How many soldiers were there?". "About 20. And I have a bump on my head so I'm guessing someone knocked me out". She puzzles over the information for a few seconds, before asking, "Can I check something really quick? I just need to be sure". "Ah y-yeah I guess. What do you need?", I ask. She takes my arm and pulls me so my back is facing hers, and she pulls down the sleeve covering my left shoulder. I'm about to ask what the heck she's doing, but she lets go almost instantly. I turn back to look at her, but she has tears in her eyes.

"Aleasa! What are you crying!?", I panic. She doesn't answer right away, instead gathering up a handful of dirt and spitting in it. She proceeds to smear it on my shoulder, and I shudder at the dirt-spit ball. I gag and ask, "What did you do that! Gross!". I try to wipe it off, but Aleasa grabs my arm to stop me. "You have to promise to always keep your shoulder covered, ok? You have to promise!", she begs me, "I promise that you'll understand some day, but please trust me, Sky!". I look into Aleasa's brown eyes, and see nothing but honesty, and...... hope. "I-I promise". I tell her. She hugs me, and I wrap my arms around her to hug back.

"Will you tell me why I can't let anyone see my shoulder?", I ask. "You'll find out when the time is right, when you meet the right people. Just make sure to never let them break you. Make sure to stay alive", she says, "These people will try to beat us into submission. Beat us until we're broken. Until we can take orders mindlessly. Don't let it happen to you, and don't be afraid". I nod my head, and Aleasa's eyes burn with hope and determination.

My name is Sky,
I was part of the GodlenEye army.
I'm now being forced into slavery.
I will not be afraid.

(Time skip)

I wake up to Aleasa shaking me awake. "Sky, get up! The cart stopped moving", she says. I jerk up and move to the back of the cart with her. The voice of guards ring out around the area, and the cart floods with light. I jerk my head away and squint at the ground. "Get out!", a gruff voice shouts at us. A hand grabs my arm, and I'm dragged forward with Aleasa behind me. I fall out of the cart and onto my hands and knees. I quickly scramble up and only take a step before a chain is locked around my ankle. I stumble and see that the chain is linked to a line of other male prisoners. A different chain is wrapped around Alease's ankle, and I'm dragged away from her. We lock eyes one last time, and she mouths, "don't forget".

Tears threaten to leak from my eyes, but wipe them and strengthen my resolve. I will not be afraid. I follow the line of slaves, watching the armed guards out of the corner of my eye. We're lined up and re-shackled from youngest to oldest. The youngest of us are three twelve year olds, standing next to me. I give them a nervous smile to try and cheer them up. One smiles back, but the other two have no reaction. They've already been broken, I realize with a jolt. Not their bodies, but their spirits are broken. I shudder and bring my attention back to the present.

We all stand outside a town, surrounded by a valley. The town has lavish houses and stores, almost looking like paradise. But it can't be, because I'm standing here, shackled to my fellow prisoners. Horse-drawn carriages alive by the dozen, and people climb out and inspect us. They wear expensive clothes and jewelry, watching us like we're pieces of merchandise. I meet the eyes of one, and recoil from what I see their. Greed, pride, and cruelty. He gives me a sinister smile before walking over to the head guard.

They exchange a few words, before the man passes a wad of cash to the guard. I've just been sold. And by the looks of it, a few others with me. Three guards hold me still while another ties a rope tightly around my hands. Me and a few others are unshackled and marched into another prison wagon. I'm thrown in with two people older then me, and one of the broken twelve year olds. One of the older men looks at us in horror about how young we are, the other looks empty and dead. I repeat the words in my head:

My name is Sky,
I was part of the GoldenEye army.
I'm now being forced into slavery.
I will not be afraid.
