Yes, yes, I'm a demon, I know

Susie's Pov

I reluctantly pulled my vision away from Kris' vibrant scarlet eyes to glare at my mother.

 "I won't allow myself to rip this apart." 

 My mind immediately went blank. What?

Theresa found Officer Undyne and stopped to talk to her.

"Look, I know that I should legally take her in, but I can't do that to her. She'd be so much happier here."

 "She has nowhere to stay, ma'am. I'm afraid there's no choice." Officer Undyne responded.

"Wait, she could stay with me." Kris offered. I was at a loss for words. I felt more tears flowing down my face and began wiping them away.

"Kris, you're only 17. You cannot take custody of her." 

 With uncanny timing, Toriel burst through the door. 

 "WHERE IS MY CHILD" she screeched.

 "I'm right here, mom." Kris said, rubbing their ear.

"Okay, good. Don't leave the house without telling me, Kris!" 

"Mom. Can we take in Susie?" They wasted no time.

"What?" Toriel asked.

"Please. I'm Theresa, Susannah's mother. I would be the one who would take custody over her, but I can't being myself to cut off the strongly woven ties she has to this town. I have nowhere else to send her."

"What is going on!?" Toriel was as confused as I was.

"Susie's dad is going to get arrested for drug use and child abuse, and the only other place she could go is with her mother in Middleville."

"What!? Oh, my child...!" she placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. "If that's what she wants, then I will be happy to give her a home." She looked at me, waiting for a response. I smiled at the ground and nodded.

These people genuinely care about me...

"Alright then. Susie, you're free to go home." Officer Undyne said, clearly moved by the immense act of kindness. I looked up at my mother and gave her a hug.

"Thank you... Even after I yelled at you, you still did this for me..." 

"I want to see you happy. Here." She placed a picture frame in my hand. It was a picture of her and a tall human man with dark hair holding a smiling baby boy with yellow teeth and patches of purple skin. "To help you remember us and so that you know we're all here for you." 

 Once again, I couldn't stop the tears from flowing. 

 "Thank you so much."
