Susie's Pov

"No love, huh?" Moon said from beside me.

"Would you not? I'm trying to enjoy a hug here." Kris snapped, and immediately went back to snuggling me. I chuckled.

"You speak?" she asked, teasing playfully, I shot her a look.

"Calm down, I'm just messing with you! Now in all seriousness, we actually need help finding the school."

"It's just up the hill, you can't miss it," I sighed.

"Thanks!" Moon went back to Angel and Cedric and began leading them to school.

Kris let go and smiled at me.

"Thanks, Susie. I was having a pretty crappy day. You made it a million times better," they said. I snorted.

"I helped you?! I was having a panic attack in a bathroom until you came to get me! And here you're saying that I'm the one that improved your day?"

We formed an unspoken truce and continued walking away from the school. I snaked my pinkie around theirs as we walked side by side.

"You wanna go to the park?" Kris asked.

"Sure," I responded.

I looked around me and enjoyed the scenery. I never realized how beautiful the town was before. Everything was usually just in the background, something just there to distract me. I guess I never realized how nice it felt to get distracted.

I looked at the ground and smiled. I could be calm for once. For once I could just mess around and be happy without the fear of someone beating me.

"...aaaand here we are. My brother and I used to come here every afternoon before he went off to college." Kris' voice sounded somewhat wistful. I looked at them and patted them on the back.

"I know Asriel being gone has been rough on you. But hey, he'll be back. I mean, he can always come home." (eyyy)

"It's not that, I'm glad for him. I just wish... Nevermind." They shook their head.

"No, go ahead. Keep going. I won't judge," I promised.

"...I wish I could live up to his standards. I mean, top of the class every year, all the awards, captain of literally every sports team, heck, he got into college with full scholarships! How can I beat that?" They sighed. "I'm just a disappointment to my whole family."

"Don't talk like that, I've seen your mom look at you before. She's outrageously proud of you. And hey, you survived hanging with me for an entire day, and that's an accomplishment if I ever heard of one!" I assured them. They smiled halfheartedly at the sky.

"This is a buzzkill. Sorry I made you come all the way out here. It should be about lunchtime, you wanna head back?" they asked. I shrugged.

"Sure."
