I stood there for a minute or so, contemplating what had just happened. It still wasn't registering. 

What.

The.

Fuck. 

Susie just kissed me. SUSIE, as in, Susie nobody knows shit about, Susie. Susie nobody talks to, Susie. Susie has no friends, Susie. 

The same person I was taunting this morning to get some info about her personality just KISSED ME.

OH MY GOD. SUSIE KISSED ME.

Finally, it registered. 

My face glowed bright crimson. I realized what time it was and started walking home when my phone rang.

"Kris!? Are you there!?" It was mom.

"Hey mom, you sound upset, what's up?"

"What's up? Seriously!? I have been calling you for an hour and you weren't picking up! I got so worried, I-"

"Mom! Calm down, I'm perfectly fine. I'm sorry, I was hanging out with a friend and had my phone turned off. I lost track of time, and-"

"You were with a friend? Oh Kris, honey, that's great! Okay, I'll let you go this time, but please call me next time you want to stay late, okay?"

"Okay, mom. I'll be home in a few minutes. Bye!"

I hung up and started making my way downtown. But I had the strangest sinking feeling...

It felt as though there was something bad happening at that very moment that I could have prevented.
