Whirlwind
I'm so sorry! I accidentally published the chapter that goes after this first! Read this before confusion and everything will make sense, I promise.
"Tsukki! Wake up before the teacher notices!"
To Tadashi's relief, Tsukishima's eyes opened and he discreetly brought his head back up. He heard a mumbled "thanks" and let a out a little sigh of relief. He didn't like walking to and from school alone. Whenever he was alone, his forever anxious mind would always come up with the worst possible outcomes to any situation, whether it be taking a walk or going for a swim or practicing volleyball.
"Yamaguchi. The bell rang."
"Oh! Sorry Tsukki!"
"S'fine."
"Would you like to eat lunch together?"
"No. You're annoying."
"Right. Sorry, Tsukki..."
"Wasn't talking to you, Yamaguchi."
Tadashi looked up. There was a pretty brunette with her straight hair in a ponytail, staring at Tsukishima with puppy eyes and a bento box in her hands. She looked at him dejectedly and sighed, then walked away with a drag in her step.
"Come on, let's go before any other hopeless romantics worm their way into my lunch hour."
"Right!"
Hopeless romantics, huh?
That's what I am, I guess.
Alright, then...
"Yamaguchi."
"Right. Sorry."
He started to feel a little more anxious again. Deep breaths, he reminded himself.
Deep breaths.
Still, he found his chest was starting to constrict. It was getting harder to breathe. Blood began to pump vigorously through his veins and he started to breathe shallower.
"maguchi..."
"amaguchi..."
"Tadashi!"
"H-huh?! Sorry Tsukki, lost my train of thought."
"You weren't talking."
"O-oh. I can explain-"
"Are you okay?"
"Huh?"
"You heard me. You looked like you were having an anxiety attack or something."
"No-nope!"
"Are you sure?"
"Yep!"
His voice felt strained. Tsukishima knew it was a lie, and he knew that Tadashi knew. They were both staring into each other's eyes, one silently interrogating the other. Clouds covered the sun, making the day seem gloomy and dull. Finally, the tall blonde turned away.
"You're lying, and I know you know that I know. But right now, you don't seem to be able to talk. So I'm going to leave you alone until after practice. But don't run away the second you get out of the changing room, because I want answers."
"Okay."
Why am I agreeing? What would Tsukki say if he knew? What would he do? Would he be too scared to be my friend?
Would he leave me?
"Tsukki!"
Tsukishima stopped in his tracks and turned to face the green-haired boy.
"Yes?"
His voice was smooth, calming, almost. Tadashi couldn't believe he'd only noticed that now. Stumbling towards Tsukishima, he was pulled into a hug.
The whirlwind of Tadashi's worries and problems melted away for just that very moment.
It was perfect. Tsukki's comforting scent enveloped him. He was locked in place, but was still left the room to escape the hug if he wanted to. Not that he did. He felt secure, safe, even, in the arms of a boy he'd known for so long he could barely remember when they first met. Neither pulled away for a very long time, but when they finally did, Tadashi thought he saw a small patch of red on each of Tsukki's cheeks.
