On the last night of our camping trip, we had one last campfire. One last hurrah to the peacefulness of a world without crazy people trying to kill everyone on the planet.
Natsu, of course, started it with ease. When the fire ignited and started glowing with heat, he looked over at me, proudly. I chuckled. I guess he looks to me for approval now, because he really didn't have anyone to for a while.
We sat under a thick blanket by the fire, huddled together from the chill of night. I leaned my head on his shoulder, and just as I expected, his soft, fair skin was radiating heat. It was comfortable like that. Under the stars. It felt natural.
I sighed. Of course.
The thought of Natsu was constantly drifting around in my mind. This led me to wonder about... his past. Specifically, who was there before me? Does he still think about her? What did she mean to him?
"Hey." Natsu said.
I turned to him, looking between his dark eyes reflecting the fire.
"I can tell something's on your mind. Do you want to talk about it?"
"It's not really me." I mumbled.
He shifted in his seat next to me. "Is it me?"
"Well... yeah. It's just... I was wondering about like, your past girlfriends."
He blinked.
"There was one." Natsu said, somberly.
I stared at him, waiting for him to continue. After a short silence, he went on.
"I was 16. Naive. She waltzed into my life, took my heart, and... left."
I squeezed his hand.
"Now, I'm better, but she was the worst thing that had ever happened to me."
"Not the best?"
He pulled my face back to him. My mouth was inches from his. "You. You're the best."
"Aww... Natsu." I said, cheeks flushing. "That's cheesy."
"I know you like cheesy."
"What happened to her?" I mumbled, changing the subject back. "Did she like, kill someone or something?"
He chuckled. "No she... Killed an entire village, actually."
My eyes widened in surprise. I was so shocked, the only thing coming from my mouth was my staggered breaths.
"It's all good now. They took her to a high-guard prison." Natsu said, reassuring me. "She's not coming back. Even if she did, it's over between us."
I smiled. "Good to know a mass murderer ex girlfriend won't come between us."
"Hey, you aren't a murderer, are you?" Natsu teased.
I stood up and walked back to the tent.
"The fact that you aren't answering is making me nervous!" He shouted.
