Chapter 2
She slowy flickered her eyes open and immediately a sharp pain ran through her head and she winced out of impulse; attracting Jason's attention.
"Anna." He went over to her.
"Okay, let's get straight to it," he said with a blank expression, "The officer is coming soon and he will be asking you some questions. I need you to say nothing."
"What do you mean by 'I should say nothing'?" She said, sitting up. She still felt the excrutiating head ache and she spoke in a low tone to avoid worsening the pain.
"Don't say a word. Infact, pretend like you don't speak English at all."
"Jason, that—"
"Anna, I am not asking. I am telling." That phrase was one that Anna heard a lot of times and she couldn't count how many times he said it to her.
"Remember, I have Brianna," he growled.
"Brianna..." The whole reason she was still in that relationship.
FLASHBACK
Jason and Anna had been dating for 3 years then and all through, it had been a bed of roses for the couple. Especially for Anastasia; Jason had always treated her like a queen and she didn't even imagine anyone that could be treated better. It took a turn when their third year anniversary had passed.
He had returned from home one late night, drunk and high.
"Jason! Where the heck have you been?" She yelled at him.
He rose his head and stared at her emotionlessly.
"I've been worried sick about you!"
Her russian accent intensified her yells and it fraustrated Jason. He tried to keep shut and just over look it as he did, but some how he couldn't take it anymore.
"Shut up!" He yelled.
In all their years of dating, Anna had never seen the look he was giving her then.
Then she let out a breath and walked towards him. She smelt a whiff of alcohol and she immediately understood the paranoma.
"Jason, why did you drink?" That was all she said that attracted a smack across her face.
She stood on the spot, tears brimming her eyes. Jason shoved her and staggered upstairs.
She was extremely surprised. She never immagined Jason could ever do that, not even when he was drunk.
Unfortunately, she decided to let it slide. She felt that it was the influence of the alcohol that caused him to act like that and she was willing to over look it.
*******
Days passed and Jason continued with his abusive feats and Anna decided she has had enough of the abuses and decided to break up with him.
She was willing to leave him without reporting him. She knew the consequences he would face if she reported him and decided that out of the respect she had for their three year relationship, she would let him be.
She packed her things and waited for Jason to return. Leaving without telling him seemed like something she could never think of doing; another thing her respect for their three years relationship caused.
Jason returned and met Anna seated on the couch with her suit cases by her side.
"Why are those with you? Where are you going to?"
"I can't let myself continue to be abused." She simply said. There were no regrets nor second thoughts as she stood and looked at him, confidently.
He stared her down and burst into laughter almost immediately. She cocked her brows at him and after a moment they fell into knots.
"What's so funny?"
"You," he chuckled.
Anger began to rise and she didn't feel like lashing out. She quietly took her suit cases in hand and headed for the door.
As expected, Jason obstructed her way with his hands. He stepped in front of her and put the strands of her strawberry blonde hair behind her ear.
"Do you really think I'll let you go?" He caressed her olive toned skin.
She yanked his arm away and stepped back, "You don't own me. I'm leaving."
He replied with another round of laughter. Anna began suspecting something fishy was going on.
"Anna... Anna... Anna..." He said her name in sing-song as he strutted metres away from her. "I knew you were gonna pull a stunt like this."
"Thank God I took precautions," he chuckled.
Curiousity and confusion dawned on her.
"You can leave, of course." He paused, "but that determines if you still care about Brianna."
With a smirk he faced her, "do you?"
"What do you mean by that?"
"I kinda took Brianna and she's with some guys of mine," he chuckled, rubbing his neck.
"You what?!"
Anna became utterly shocked and speechless. She was confused if it was the same Jason she had known. Out of impulse, tears welled in her eyes.
"J-Jason, what do you want?" She squeaked.
"You." He shrugged. "I want you. And if I can't have that, then..."
"Jason, p-please don't do this."
"Don't do what?" He replied, pretending to be clueless. "I think you should just return your things and lets pretend like nothing happened."
And with that, he strutted upstairs.
She stood in the living room with numerous thoughts going through her head. After a while she decided to call her sister's care taker.
"Hello."
"Anna, I hope Brianna's with you. Jason came to take her not too long ago. And--"
She hung up. Suddenly, her breath ceased and she began gasping for air. Tears ran on her cheeks.
"God, why?" She bellowed.
It was then she realised she fell in love with a monster.

"Okay, " she breathed.
"Good." He nodded.
Moments after the police officer came in with a female doctor by his side. She had a clipboard in her hands as she stood by Anna's side.
"How are you feeling?" The doctor asked.
"ya ne ponimayu." she pretended to be clueless. (I don't understand.)
"I'm sorry, I forgot to mention she doesn't speak nor understand English." Jason chirped in.
"How could you forget to mention that?" The police officer said through gritted teeth.
Jason darted his eyes over to his badge and read 'Grayson Brandon'.
"Look, Officer Grayson, because of all the tension I felt when Anna was unconscious," he held her hand, "I forgot to mention it."
"Can you ask her how she's feeling?" The doctor interrupted.
"Of course." He turned to her with a fake smile, "ty umnyy." (You're smart.)
Anna formed a low frown and replied, "plēz ne navredi yey." (Please don't harm her.)
"She said she's feeling a bit drowsy, " he lied.
"Okay, I think she should stay the night here so we can monitor her."
"eto zavisit ot tebya." He fake smiled at Anna. (That depends on you.)
She let out a shaky breath and relaxed.
The Officer looked between Jason and Anna and sensed something wasn't right.
"There's no problem," Jason smiled at the doctor.
"Good." The doctor nodded.
"Then I'm going to get a russian translator tomorrow." He informed, "remember, I'm not through with you, Jason. Your girlfriend's statement is extremely essential."
Jason immediately tensed up. Something told him he was just prolonging the worse.
