Chapter 3
As the leader of the group, Seungcheol was feeling confident and in control. He had a team of armed men at his disposal, and he knew that they were more than a match for the cocky thief they were after.
He stepped forward and looked at the masked man, trying to size him up. The thief was shorter than him, but he definitely had some muscle on him. And there was a defiant look in his eyes that made Seungcheol curious.
Seungcheol couldn't help but roll his eyes as he saw his mask. It was a ridiculous and flashy way to cover your identity, and it made the thief look even more like a cocky show-off.
"Nice mask," he said sarcastically.
Jeonghan merely tilted his head and smirked, clearly enjoying the banter. "Thanks, I wear it to keep my identity hidden from pesky assholes like you."
Seungcheol's irritation grew at the thief's lack of respect. But he didn't let it show, not wanting to give the thief the satisfaction of getting under his skin.
"Sure 1004." Seungcheol said to the masked man.
Jeonghan raised an eyebrow beneath the mask at the comment. "1004?" he repeated astonished.
Jeonghan couldn't believe it. How did they know his code name?
It was supposed to be a secret, known only to a handful of people. He kept his poker face though, not wanting to let them know that he was feeling shaken.
"How do you know that name?" Jeonghan asked, his voice betraying a hint of agitation.
Seungcheol's smile widened as he saw the agitation in Jeonghan's voice. He knew that he had hit a nerve, and it was satisfying to see the thief flustered.
"Let's just say we have our sources," he said cryptically.
Jeonghan clenched his jaw, knowing that he wouldn't get any more information out of him. But he was determined to keep his cool and not let the gang leader get the upper hand.
"Well, congratulations," he said drily. "You know my code name. That means jackshit in this situation."
Seungcheol chuckled at his response. The thief was definitely a feisty one, he thought. But he was determined to get his diamond back, no matter how much attitude he had to deal with.
"You can drop the tough guy act all you want," he said. "But we both know why we're here. You have something that belongs to me, and I want it back."
"No I won't. Can't hear?" Jeonghan snapped back.
Seungcheol's irritation grew at his refusal to give up the diamond. He knew that the thief was stubborn, but he had underestimated just how stubborn he really was.
Seungcheol nodded at The8, signalling for him to put his plan into action. The8 smiled deviously, knowing exactly what to do.
The8 moved closer him, eyeing the thief's laser gun with a calculating look. "You know," he sneered. "That weapon of yours looks pretty useless against all of us."
Jeonghan gripped his laser gun tighter, glaring at him. "Don't underestimate me," he warned. "This gun may not look like much, but it packs a serious punch."
The8 chuckled. "Oh really?" he taunted. "Why don't you test it out on me then?"
Jeonghan aimed the laser gun straight at him, his finger hovering over the trigger. "You want to test it out? Fine by me," he said.
The8 smirked, not scared in the slightest. "Go ahead," he said. "Fire away."
Jeonghan hesitated for a moment, realizing that he wasn't going to win this way. He lowered his laser gun, glaring at him "I'm not stupid enough to fall for your bait," he snapped.
"Aw, what's the matter? Chicken?" The8 taunted. "Afraid to fire that fancy weapon of yours?"
Jeonghan clenched his jaw, fighting the urge to punch The8 in the face. "I'm not a coward," he hissed. "I just know when to pick my battles, and you're not worth the effort."
Seungcheol watched as Jeonghan continued to argue with The8, knowing that it was the perfect time to put their plan into action. He nodded at the other gang members, signalling for them to make their move.
The other group members moved quickly and silently, surrounding Jeonghan on all sides. Jeonghan finally noticed the sudden movement and looked around, realizing that he was now completely surrounded by the gang members.
He frantically brandished his laser gun, trying to keep the gang members at bay. But he was outnumbered and outgunned, and he knew that he didn't stand a chance against all of them.
"Looks like you're not so tough after all," Seungcheol said smugly. "Drop the gun and hand us the diamond, and we might just let you walk out of here in one piece."
Jeonghan hesitated for a moment, trying to figure out a way out of the situation. But as he glanced around at the gang members surrounding him, he knew that he had no choice but to give them the diamond.
Seungcheol grinned as he took the diamond from Jeonghan's hands. "That wasn't so hard, now was it?" he jeered.
"By the way I am S Coups leader of Seventeen nice meeting you."
Jeonghan's eyes widened as Seungcheol introduced himself as the leader of Seventeen, also known as S.Coups. He had heard of the gang before, but he had never met its leader face-to-face until now.
Jeonghan rolled his eyes beneath the mask, feeling annoyed at the gang leader's arrogance. "Charmed," he bit out sarcastically.
"S.Coups, hm?" Jeonghan said, trying to sound unimpressed. "I've heard of you. You're quite the infamous figure in the underworld."
Jeonghan tried to keep his composure, feigning indifference even though he felt a mix of fear and fascination. He had always heard tales of S.Coups and his gang, and now he was standing face-to-face with the notorious leader himself.
Seungcheol smirked, amused by Jeonghan's attempt at nonchalance. "And you're the thief with a reputation for pulling off daring heists," he replied. "Jeonghan, was it? Or should I call you 1004?"
Jeonghan's facade of nonchalance shattered as he heard Seungcheol mention his name. He couldn't believe that S.Coups and his gang knew his name and his code name. It was supposed to be a closely guarded secret.
"How the hell do you know my name?" he demanded, unable to hide his surprise and anger.
Seungcheol chuckled at Jeonghan's reaction. "Let's just say we have our ways of finding out information," he said. "But suffice to say, we've been keeping an eye on you for a while, 1004. We know all about your exploits and your reputation in the underworld."
Jeonghan's mind raced as he tried to figure out how S.Coups and his gang had managed to gather so much information about him. It was a chilling realization to know that he had been under their watch for so long.
Seungcheol chuckled at Jeonghan's command, finding it amusing that the thief thought he had any power in this situation. "Not so fast," he said, taking a step closer to Jeonghan. "We're not done here yet."
Jeonghan bristled at his audacity, but he tried to hide his fear. "What do you mean? You got the diamond, and I've given up my weapon," he said through gritted teeth. "What more could you possibly want from me?"
Seungcheol grinned, a sly look in his eyes. "Oh, we want something else from you, 1004," he said. "We want to make a deal with you."
Seungcheol took another step forward, towering over Jeonghan. "We've been watching you for a while, and we've been impressed with your skills and your ability to get out of tight spots," he said. "We think you could be a valuable asset to our gang."
Jeonghan silently agreed with his own thought. If S.Coups wasn't so damn attractive, he would have punched him in the face already. But there was something about the gang leader that both irritated and intrigued him.
"You want me to join your gang?" Jeonghan asked incredulously. "You've got to be joking. I'm a thief, not a gang member."
Seungcheol chuckled. "We know you're a thief," he said.
"But we think your talents would be better used in a gang like ours. Think about it. You'd have access to all the resources and protection you could want, and you'd be surrounded by other skilled individuals like yourself."
Jeonghan couldn't deny that the offer was tempting. The idea of having access to the gang's resources and protection was definitely appealing. But accepting the offer would mean giving up his independence and joining a gang, something he had always avoided.
"Sorry, thanks for entertaining but I don't want." Jeonghan retorted.
Seungcheol's smile faltered slightly at Jeonghan's rejection, but he quickly composed himself. "Are you sure?" he asked, a hint of disappointment in his voice. "You're turning down a chance to be part of a powerful and influential gang. It's not an offer we extend lightly."
Jeonghan stood his ground, determined not to be swayed by S.Coups' persuasion. "I'm sure," he said firmly. "I don't want to be part of your gang, no matter how tempting the offer might be. I value my independence too much."
"Well, it's your loss then," he said, his tone laced with disappointment. "But I have to say, I'm surprised. For a tough guy, you're awfully stubborn."
Jeonghan rolled his eyes at his remark. "And for a powerful gang leader, you're awfully petty," he retorted.
Seungcheol laughed at Jeonghan's comeback, unable to deny the thief's insolent yet charming personality. "You're a cheeky one, aren't you?" he said, a hint of admiration in his voice.
Jeonghan just smiled slyly, refusing to give an answer. He could tell that he had caught him off guard with his attitude, and he found a perverse pleasure in irritating the gang leader.
Seungcheol studied Jeonghan for a moment, intrigued by the thief's cheeky and defiant attitude. He had never met someone who was so fearless and defiant in the face of danger, and it was both infuriating and attractive.
"So what are you hiding behind that mask of yours? Pretty face?"
Jeonghan's eyes widened behind his mask, his question. He had expected the gang leader to be curious about his identity, but he hadn't anticipated being called "pretty". He was used to being judged solely on his skills as a thief, not his appearance.
Jeonghan's cheeks turned slightly red under the mask, caught off guard by the unexpected compliment. "Pretty face?" he repeated, trying to sound dismissive. "You can't even see my face, how do you know if it's pretty or not?"
Seungcheol chuckled, enjoying seeing Jeonghan flustered. "Well, I can see your eyes, and they're pretty," he said, unable to resist teasing the thief.
"Shut up," he muttered, trying to hide his embarrassment. "My eyes are just eyes. You don't know if the rest of my face is pretty or not."
"Now if you excuse me you got your diamond and I am going away." Jeonghan was about to back out.
Seungcheol's smile faded at Jeonghan's dismissive words. "Hold on," he said, stepping in front of Jeonghan to block his way. "I have a condition before I let you go."
