Chapter 17
Seeing their completed meal Seungcheol made his way to the living room, where Haneul was still sitting on the bed, looking tired and weary after his tears.
"Hey, bud," he said softly, gently sitting down next to Haneul. "The food is ready. Are you hungry?"
Haneul nodded weakly, his small stomach growling at the mention of food. He looked up at Seungcheol with big, hopeful eyes, and Seungcheol's heart clenched at the sight of his weary and exhausted face.
Seungcheol gently wrapped an arm around Haneul's small frame, helping him to stand up from the bed. "Come on," he said, his voice soft and reassuring. "Let's go get some food in that tummy of yours."
Seungcheol wrapped his other arm around Haneul's small frame, supporting him as they walked out of the room and towards the kitchen. The other members all looked up as they entered, their faces softening as they saw Haneul's weary and exhausted state.
"Hey, little guy." The8 said gently, his voice taking on a softer tone than his usual lively one. "You ready to eat something? We made all kinds of good stuff for you."
Haneul nodded weakly, still leaning heavily into Seungcheol's arms. He looked small and fragile incomparison to the older man, like a doll that was being held up by Seungcheol's strong, steady grip.
The members all exchanged worried and concerned glances as they watched Haneul listlessly clinging to Seungcheol. He was clearly exhausted, both emotionally and physically, from his earlier crying.
Seungcheol led Haneul over to a chair at the table, helping him to sit down with gentle, slow movements. He watched as Haneul's small body practically sagged with exhaustion, his shoulders drooping and his head hanging wearily.
Haneul looked up at the food blearily, his eyes barely open. He lifted a fork to his mouth and took a small bite, his weary body clearly struggling just to chew and swallow.
The members all watched in worried silence as Haneul took hesitant, slow bites of his food, his small frame clearly struggling to stay upright. It was a far cry from his emotional outburst earlier, and the sight of his exhausted body was like a punch to the stomach.
Seungcheol watched Haneul intently, his heart clenching at the sight of the small child struggling to stay awake just to eat. He could see the exhaustion and weariness in every line and curve of Haneul's small frame, the way his shoulders drooped and his head lolled heavily.
"Eat as much as you can and go to sleep okay?" Seungcheol said watching him intently.
Haneul nodded weakly, his small body almost too weary to even respond. He continued to eat slowly, taking small bites of the food that the members had prepared for him.
Seungcheol watched closely, his hand resting gently on Haneul's small back. He could feel the child's thin body trembling slightly as he ate, the exhaustion clearly taking its toll on him.
Once Haneul had finished eating, he looked up at Seungcheol with weary, red-rimmed eyes. He was clearly on the verge of passing out from exhaustion, his small frame swaying slightly in his chair.
Seungcheol gently picked Haneul up from his chair, cradling his small frame against his chest. Haneul's body practically melted into Seungcheol's arms, too tired to even hold himself up anymore.
Seungcheol could feel the slight tremble in Haneul's small frame, the way his body seemed to sag against his chest like a ragdoll. He tightened his grip slightly, trying to provide some comfort and support to the weary child.
The other members all watched as Seungcheol held Haneul in his arms, their faces filled with worry and concern. They could see the exhaustion etched on Haneul's small face, and they knew that sleep was what he needed most right now.
Seungcheol gave the other members a small nod, signaling that he was going to go put Haneul to bed. The members all nodded in return, their eyes tracking Haneul's weary form in Seungcheol's arms.
As Seungcheol held Haneul in his arms, he mulled over the decision of where to put the child to sleep. He weighed the options in his mind, considering which room would be the best place for Haneul to rest and recover.
Eventually, he decided that the best option would be to take Haneul to his own room. He knew that his room was quiet and comfortable, and he could keep a closer eye on Haneul there as well.
He carefully made his way down the hall and into his room, holding Haneul gently against his chest. The small child was half-asleep already, his small body limp and weary in Seungcheol's arms.
Seungcheol watched as Haneul's breathing slowed and evened out, his weary body finally succumbing to the pull of sleep. The small child looked so fragile and helpless in the bed, his small frame practically swallowed up by the pillow and sheets.
Seungcheol gently tucked the blanket around Haneul's small body, ensuring that he was warm and comfortable. The child's small face was peaceful and relaxed in sleep, his breath coming out in slow, even puffs.
Seungcheol watched Haneul for a moment, just taking in the sight of the small child peacefully sleeping in his bed. He could feel a strange protective feeling well up in his chest, a fierce desire to keep Haneul safe and protected from harm.
Seungcheol quietly closed the door to his room behind him, making sure not to wake up Haneul in his sleep. Then, he made his way back down the hall to the room where Jeonghan was.
Seungcheol quickly made his way down the hall to the medical room where he was still unconscious. He pushed open the door and stepped inside, his gaze immediately going to Jeonghan's motionless body on the bed.
He walked over to Jeonghan's bedside, his heart clenching at the sight of the younger man's pale face and closed eyes. He reached out and gently touched Jeonghan's wrist, feeling for his pulse.
The pulse was steady and strong, a small relief to Seungcheol. It seemed that Jeonghan was finally in a deep sleep, his body finally relaxing after the stressful events of earlier that day.
Joshua caught up. "How's the kid?" Seungcheol turned to look at Joshua, his face softening slightly. "He's asleep," he said, his voice quiet. "Completely passed out. Poor kid was exhausted."
"I put him in my room," Seungcheol continued. "He was too tired to even stay awake any longer. I think he'll sleep for a while yet."
Joshua nodded, a flicker of worry crossing his face. "That's good," he said. "He was in a pretty bad state earlier. I'm glad he's finally getting some rest."
Seungcheol nodded in agreement, his gaze returning to Jeonghan's sleeping form. "Yeah," he said. "He really needs it. He's been through a lot lately."
"Do you think he'll wake up soon?" Joshua asked, his voice slightly hesitant. "We need to talk to him about..." He trailed off, unsure of how to continue.
Seungcheol sighed, his shoulders sagging slightly. "I don't know," he said honestly. "He's been out for a while now. It could be hours yet, or even days. We just have to wait and see."
"The doctor did say that he will wake up tomorrow." Seungcheol agreed. "But there's no way to know for sure. We just have to be patient and keep an eye on him for now."
"In the meantime," Seungcheol continued, "we need to figure out what we're going to do about Haneul. We can't just let him sit around for days while Jeonghan is out. He needs someone to look after him."
Joshua nodded in agreement. "You're right," he said. "But who's going to look after him? We're all busy with our own responsibilities."
"I thought about it," Seungcheol said, running a hand through his hair. "And I think we should all take turns. We can rotate who looks after him each day, so nobody gets stuck with the job for too long."
Joshua nodded again. "That's not a bad idea," he said. "But who's going first?"
"I will," Seungcheol said immediately. "I put him to bed in my room. I'll look after him today."
Joshua raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Are you sure?" he asked. "You've had a pretty long day already. You need to rest too."
Seungcheol waved off his concerns. "I'm fine," he said. "I can handle it. And besides, Haneul feels comfortable around me. He'll be more at ease if I'm the one looking after him."
"If you're sure," Joshua said, still looking skeptical. "But call me if you need anything, okay? Don't try to do everything alone."
"I will," Seungcheol promised. "Don't worry. I'll take good care of him."
"You never thought Jeonghan having a son did you?" Joshua said with a slight smirk.
Seungcheol chuckled wryly at Joshua's words. "No," he said, shaking his head. "I never would have expected this. Not in a million years."
"Jeonghan, a father," he said, the words feeling strange and unfamiliar on his tongue. "Who would have thought?"
Joshua smiled faintly, his expression a mixture of amusement and disbelief. "I still can't wrap my head around it," he said. "Jeonghan, with a kid? It's hard to imagine."
Seungcheol sighed, running a hand through his hair again. "I know," he said. "It's still a lot to process. But we need to focus on the present right now. We can worry about the details later."
"You're right," Joshua said, nodding in agreement. "We just need to take things one step at a time."
Seungcheol nodded, his mind already returning to the small child sleeping peacefully in his room. "Yeah," he said, more to himself than to Joshua. "One step at a time."
