Chapter 10
As they approached the headquarters, they could see the chaos outside. The gates were destroyed, and the ground was littered with debris. It was clear that Jeonghan had caused quite a commotion.
Seungcheol and Woozi exchanged a look. Jeonghan was certainly up to something.
They walked through the destroyed gates, carefully navigating the debris. Seungcheol's eyes scanned the area, looking for any sign of Jeonghan.
"Jeonghan!" he called out, his voice carrying through the air. "Where the hell are you?"
There was no answer. The only sound was the creaking of metal and the shuffling of broken glass. Seungcheol's patience was beginning to wear thin. Did Jeonghan think he could just show up and cause all this destruction without any consequences?
As Seungcheol and Woozi walked further into the compound, they were met with the sight of some of Seungcheol's men surrounding Jeonghan. The thief was standing in the middle of the wreckage, looking completely unfazed.
Seungcheol's eyes locked on Jeonghan, a surge of irritation coursing through his veins. "What the hell are you doing here?" he demanded, walking up to Jeonghan.
"Give me back my son." His voice unwavering.
Seungcheol's eyebrow raised at Jeonghan's words. "Your son? What are you talking about?" he asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
But inside he was seething. Jeonghan had a son?
Jeonghan fixed Scoups with a steely glare. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. You took my son and threatened to hurt him if I don't give you the diamond. Well, here I am. Let Haneul go."
Seungcheol's surprise was genuine this time. He hadn't expected Jeonghan to actually come and bargain for his son's release. He had underestimated the thief again.
But he wasn't prepared to let Jeonghan have the upper hand either. "What makes you think I have your kid?" he asked, feigning ignorance.
Jeonghan's eyes narrowed, and he took a step closer to him. "Cut the crap, Scoups. I know you have Haneul. Don't play dumb with me."
"Jeonghan, I don't have your son."
Jeonghan's jaw clenched at his denial. "I don't believe you," he spat out, his voice laced with anger. "You have no reason to take Haneul unless you wanted something from me."
Seungcheol let out a sigh, his patience thinning. "Why the hell would I want your kid? I'm a gang leader, Jeonghan, not some sicko who abducts children for fun."
Jeonghan studied SCoups for a moment, his eyes searching for any sign of deceit. But he saw nothing but irritation and confusion on his face. Was it possible that he was telling the truth?
Jeonghan's mind was racing, trying to make sense of the situation. If he didn't have Haneul, then who did? He wracked his brain, trying to think of anyone who would target his son.
Seungcheol watched Jeonghan's facial expressions, studying him intently. The thief's confusion and frustration were visible, but there was something else there too. Desperation, fear.
Suddenly, a realization hit Seungcheol like a ton of bricks. Jeonghan truly believed that he had kidnapped his son. But why? And why did Jeonghan look so desperate?
A mix of shock and disbelief coursed through Seungcheol. The thought of Jeonghan having a child and being a father blew his mind. But it also tugged at his heartstrings, seeing the worry and anguish etched on Jeonghan's face. He wanted to ask more questions, to find out as much as he could about Jeonghan's life outside of their cat-and-mouse game. But now wasn't the time. They had more pressing matters to attend to.
Seungcheol's voice softened a bit. "Listen, Jeonghan, I don't know who has your kid, but I promise you it's not me. I would never stoop so low as to harm a child."
Jeonghan's eyes widened slightly at his tone. The gang leader had never sounded so sincere before. Jeonghan didn't want to believe him, didn't want to let his guard down. But something in his gut told him that he was being truthful.
"Even if I believe you," Jeonghan said, his voice weary and resigned, "I still need to get Haneul back. So either you help me or get out of my way". He steeled himself for another round of banter, another round of fighting.
Seungcheol's eyes narrowed at Jeonghan's words. Helping Jeonghan? That wasn't part of his plan. But the desperation in Jeonghan's voice tugged at him. He could have walked away, let him deal with it himself. But he didn't. Something compelled him to offer his assistance.
"If you aren't any use I am going." Jeonghan said backing out slightly.
Seungcheol couldn't help but smirk at Jeonghan's stubbornness. "You always act so high and mighty," he said. "Even when you're obviously in need of help."
Jeonghan scowled at him. "I don't need your help," he retorted. "I can find Haneul on my own."
"Oh really?" Seungcheol folded his arms across his chest. "And how do you plan on doing that exactly? You look exhausted and clueless."
Jeonghan's irritation flared at his condescending tone. He didn't want to admit that the gang leader was right. He was tired, and he was at a loss for clues. But he'd rather die than let Scoups know that.
"I have my own leads to follow," Jeonghan lied, trying to sound convincing. "And I will find Haneul. With or without your help."
Jeonghan stormed out of the headquarters, the sound of his footsteps echoing in the quiet night. He was frustrated, confused, and terrified. Someone had taken Haneul, and that person had demanded for the diamond. But who could it possibly be?
Seungcheol turned to Joshua, a frown on his face. "What was I supposed to do? Hold him at gunpoint?"
"We could've gotten some information out of him," Joshua replied, frowning. "He knows something. Why else would he be here causing a scene and accusing us of taking his kid?"
"I know," Seungcheol said irritably, running a hand through his hair. "Believe me, I would've loved to wring his neck."
He paused for a moment, his mind going over Jeonghan's words again. "But there's something about this whole situation that doesn't seem right..."
"What do you mean?" Woozi asked, coming closer to join the conversation.
"Just the way Jeonghan was acting," Seungcheol mused, leaning against a nearby wall. "He seemed genuinely distressed. And he really believed that we had kidnapped his kid."
"You don't buy that he has a kid," Joshua said, his tone skeptical.
"I'm not saying he doesn't have a kid," Seungcheol clarified. "But it's hard to believe that Jeonghan, of all people, is a father. He's a thief, a master of deceit and cunning. It's difficult to picture him caring for a child."
"Maybe that's why he's so desperate," Woozi mused. "It's his soft spot. His weakness."
Seungcheol nodded, a thoughtful expression on his face. Woozi was right, something was definitely off. "We need to look into this," he said. "Find out why Jeonghan was convinced we had this Haneul kid. Check security footage, contact our informants. I want to know everything we can about what's going on."
Joshua and Woozi exchanged a look, both of them clearly as puzzled and intrigued as Seungcheol. "On it," Joshua said, already pulling out his phone to contact their men.
As they got to work, Seungcheol couldn't shake the feeling that this situation with Jeonghan was far more complex than they had initially thought. And he had a gut feeling that it was only going to get more complicated.
Jeonghan ran through the darkened streets, his mind racing. He had no idea who had kidnapped Haneul, and with each passing minute, the chance of finding him alive grew slimmer. He clenched his fists, the grip on his gun tightening as anger and frustration boiled inside him.
He was desperate, panicked, and at a loss. Despite having numerous connections in the city, he had no leads on who could have taken his son. And without any information on the kidnapper's identity, he didn't know where to begin searching.
As Jeonghan ran, the words of his old boss echoed in his mind. "I want that diamond," he had said. A chill ran down Jeonghan's spine. Could it be possible that his old boss was behind Haneul's abduction?
Jeonghan stopped in his tracks, panting heavily. The thought of his old boss being involved in Haneul's kidnapping was both terrifying and infuriating. He had left that life behind, wanting to protect his son from the dangers of the underworld. And yet, it seemed like the past had come back to haunt him again.
Jeonghan gritted his teeth, determination filling him. He had to find Haneul, no matter what it took. And if it turned out that his old boss was behind it all, Jeonghan was prepared to do whatever it took to make him pay.
Jeonghan hastily started his car and sped through the city, his heart racing with urgency. He had a strong suspicion that his former boss was behind the kidnapping, and he was determined to confront him.
As he navigated the streets, Jeonghan's mind was filled with a mix of fear and anger. He couldn't bear the thought of what might happen to Haneul if he didn't find him soon.
Finally, Jeonghan arrived at the location of his former boss's hideout. He got out of the car, his eyes scanning the dark surroundings. The place was eerily quiet, and Jeonghan could sense the danger lurking in the shadows.
Seungcheol and his men were gathered around the surveillance monitor, watching the feed from the security cameras. They had been scouring through every piece of footage, looking for any clues on Jeonghan's mysterious child.
Suddenly, something caught Seungcheol's eye. "Wait, rewind that," he said, leaning closer to the screen.
His men obeyed, replaying the footage again. This time, Seungcheol focused all his attention on a particular moment. He squinted, trying to make out the figures on the screen.
Suddenly, recognition flashed on his face. "Stop," he commanded, and the footage froze on a clear image.
"Enhance it," Seungcheol ordered, his eyes studying the figure on the screen.
His men quickly zoomed in on the image, sharpening it and making it more clear. It was definitely Jeonghan. But what was he doing at that location? Seungcheol's intuition told him something was off.
"Damn it," he muttered, his mind racing. "He just had to complicate things even more."
He couldn’t let Jeonghan go there alone. Not when he was clearly walking into a dangerous situation.
His men looked at each other, unsure of how to react. Following Jeonghan was a risky move, especially since he had already caused enough trouble for them once tonight. But they knew better than to question Seungcheol's orders.

"Alright, let's move," Seungcheol said, grabbing his jacket and heading towards the exit. "But be as discreet as possible. I don't want Jeonghan knowing we're tailing him."
