Summer's End

       Summer passes in the blink of an eye for you. But it felt like you didn't leave school. You were studying myths while you could, spending time with the twins during breaks and learning magic at night.

        You had no idea you could do such things. Actually, you felt like you had a knack for it too.

        "Fairies may be small and physically weak. But when it comes to magic, we can rival even the celestial beings." Your mom said with a look of fiery pride. "We can draw magic from the mana in all living beings around us. And don't worry, they'll recover their Mana and it won't hurt them in the slightest. Actually the only ones that can die from losing mana are fairies."

         "Eh??" You squeak out. "Aren't there things that eat mana? Like imps?"

         "Imps can only eat mana by devouring magical creatures. But yes there are a few things you should avoid. I made you a list." She motions to the new journal on your desk.

         "Oh great..." You peer in the journal and blanch. "Ah... There's a lot." You gasp picking it up. "I'll have to bring this to school with me." You mutter.

         "Okay. Time to start your magic lesson!" She chimes.

        "So tomorrow is it..." Osamu breathes as you both sit on the couch watching cake wars.

        "Yeah. I'm actually kind of excited for this." You smile. "Oh that cake's going to fall, bet on it."

        "Nah I see it too... I am dreading it." He responds. You both grimace as the cake falls. "Ah... What a waste..."

         "That would've looked great too..." You frown. "Why are you dreading it though? Atsumu is excited."

         "That's why. He gets too excited and ends up embarrassing himself and then I feel it for the rest of the day or until he gets over it." He scowls.

          "Being a twin must be tough..." You breathe. The whole twin telepathy was still pretty amazing to you, but only because it didn't affect you.

           "Hey cake nerds. Anyone see my backpack?" Atsumu asks, coming into the living room and searching around.

          "You had it hanging up in your closet, you probably pushed it to the back after you went shopping in the Elemental district." You tell him and he pauses, wagging his finger at you and gong back out. Osamu peers at you quietly at that. "Sorry. That was weird wasn't it?" You murmur. He chuckles lightly in amusement at that.

          "... What the hell ___?! How do you do that?" Atsumu calls coming toward the living room to give you a look.

          "I uh... Just understand you." You respond awkwardly.

          "... Stop." He points at you before disappearing back down the hall. "But also thank you." He calls.

          "Awe. He never thanks me." You whisper.

          "He's low-key happy about it." Osamu murmurs back.

          "You better not be talking about me!" Atsumu shouts.

          "So loud." You and Osamu call back. Your phone goes off and you check it.

          "Oh. Looks like they're ready." You hum getting up. "Atsumu! They're ready, don't take long this time please." You call starting out with Osamu.

          "Of course I won't. It's barbeque." Atsumu joins you both, drooling slightly. You frown, pulling your hoodie sleeve to wipe his chin, making him tense. "I had it..." He grumbles pulling his face away and wiping his chin off again.

          "Last time I left it alone I thought it was going to become permanent." You respond.

          "Alright I'll keep it in check." He grumbles as you all leave the house, being greeted by the smell of the barbeque, making Atsumu start to drool again and take the lead.

           "He's such an animal." Osamu mutters.

           "You're starting to drool too." You comment.

           "Shush." He pokes your cheek and wipes his lip as you all reach your backyard.

           "Welcome to the summer feast!" Your mom and dad cheer, standing before a table full of food.

           "Were you guys expecting an army?" You blink an enemy.

           "Nope. Just two hungry foxes and a halfling." Your mom chuckles as Atsumu immediately starts to load his plate.

           "Don't choke again Atsumu, please." You frown worriedly. He twitches and scoffs looking away.

            "I won't. I'm not a child ya know?" He grumbles.

            "I know... Sorry." You murmur.

            "Don't mind him. Here, I made you a plate." Osamu smiles.

             "Thanks 'Samu." You hum starting to eat. "Mom! This is so good!" You gasp.

             "Hehe thanks sunset! Your dad helped with most of it." She grins.

             "Ah no need Autumn, ___ knows I'm a mediocre cook." Your dad rubs his neck.

             "Don't give me that Dusty." She puffs her cheeks.

             "Everything tastes good to me." Atsumu hums, licking his lips. "So good job." He smiles.

            "That's because you don't taste since you start to scarf it down." Osamu deadpans. "But he's right, it is good."

            "Then why ya taking a shot at me!?" Atsumu huffs in annoyance.

            "Is it because I keep winning the baking contest?" You ask Osamu.

            "He's picking favorites! It's hardly fair." Osamu scoffs.

            "I'm not. ___'s not my favorite anything." Atsumu says.

            "That's so rude and such a lie." Osamu frowns at him.

            "Everyone has their preference. I'm not surprised I'm not in his." You hum. "I want some more meat." Atsumu pauses watching you before clicking his tongue.

            "Don't talk like that ___." He tells you.

            "It's true though. I can't get upset over something I don't have control over and trying to change myself so I can meet your preference just sounds exhausting and stressful." You shrug.

            "Good words ___." Osamu pats your head, placing a piece of meat on your plate. "Here before 'Tsumu eats all of them."

            "Thanks 'Samu." You hum eating it thoughtfully.

            "I'm glad you've all become so close." Your mom smiles widely. "I'd like to see you make a lot of friends ___."

            "I'll try." You nod smiling.

          "Good. Let's enjoy the feast, and tomorrow you all start your high school lives." Your dad holds up a cup. "To a new change."

          "To a new change." You all raise your cups as well.

          After the feast you head upstairs to your room, going to the protea you were growing near the window, giving it a light spray.

          "Hey, ___?" Your mom flutters up and you look over as she flies over, touching the protea briefly before sitting on the window sill. "I think I should tell you how you were... Born. I'm sure it'll come up at school. So I'd like to tell you."

          "Okay. Let me get my chair and sit down, I think I'll need it." You murmur going to pull your chair over. "Alright. I think I'm ready." You hum sitting down.

          "So... I wanted a baby so bad. And I didn't want to have some stranger's baby. I wanted your father's... So he told me about how they sometimes make babies in human society so we put the eggs and seeds into dishes..." She looks past you and your father joins you, handing you some pictures. "We had twenty-two dishes in the end. Yours is right there." She points. "We waited a long time for something to happen, we tended to them as we should. But nothing... I was becoming so sad..."

         "Your mother always went to yours when she felt down." Your dad whispers.

         "I don't know why but it felt so strongly about you. I wanted you to start developing more than anything." Your mom whispers, tearing up. "I was about to give up. Your father came to comfort me and we both ended up crying. I'm not sure but I think our tears fell into your dish together because there was a sudden light that shined. As if mother Mana was saying. 'Here you go. Your baby.'." She smiles softly. "So once you started to develop more we had to move you to an incubator."

           'I'm a test tube miracle baby.' You blink sitting back. "Wow. Okay... That's... Amazing." You breathe in awe. "That's not too hard to explain."

           "Good..." She smiles and flutters up to hug your neck. "You're my miracle, and I love you so much." She whispers.

           "I love you too mom." You hum.

           "Come on Autumn. Let's leave ___ to rest now." Your father says kissing the top of your head. "Goodnight ___." He rumbles before heading out with your mother. You smile and relax, peering at the protea.

          "Good luck tomorrow Tendo. I hope you make some friends tomorrow too." You breathe resting your arms on the window sill, staring up at the moon, starting to drift off when a familiar voice leans into view almost making you scream but you cover your mouth swiftly, shivering before opening the door. "Atsumu! Why??" You whisper.

          "Saw your light on. Don't fall asleep there, go to your bed." He scolds lightly. "And uh... Here." He holds out a metal pack of coloring pencils. "You'll probably join the gardening club right? I know you like to sketch new flowers so I thought you might need these." He says awkwardly, avoiding your gaze.

          "Oh wow. Thanks so much Atsumu!" You hug him cheerfully, making him stiffen.

         "Off. Get. Off." He leans away. "I'll see you tomorrow. Get some rest." He huffs before hopping down and landing on the fence that separated the houses. He gives a wave and heads inside. You smile and close the window, locking it before putting the pack in your backpack and turning out your light to go to sleep.

~~~~~
         "Blanda is a bit far. How about you find a dwelling near it?" His mother asks, leaning on his door frame as he packs his school bag.
          "Hm?" He blinks at her in question and his father joins her in the doorway.
          "We think it's time for you to go live on your own now." His father states.
          "I... See..." Satori lowers his gaze, heart dropping slightly.
          "We'll give you a week. But then you're out." His father says disappearing down the hall.
          "I'm sorry... But I tried to help you fit into this family... In the end you just... Couldn't." His mother breathes before walking away.
          "Yeah. Guess not." He whispers, grabbing a duffle bag to start packing other things now a bit aggressively. He pauses as something falls to the floor. He leans over and picks up the dried up protea. Tears come to his eyes and he breathes heavily, touching it to his forehead. "Courage..."
~~~~~

        "Ahhh." You breathe, shaking yourself.

        "Deep breaths, calm down." Osamu pats your shoulders as you both follow after Atsumu.

        "But.. I don't know how to tell creatures apart since we all look human. What if I offend someone?" You gasp worriedly.

         "___ you're the last person that should be worrying about that. My brother on the other hand...." He looks at Atsumu as if that was enough.

          "Shut it. They'll get over it." Atsumu waves his hand.

          "See. Just don't be an Atsumu and you'll be fine." Osamu smiles.

           "Don't make it sound like a thing..." Atsumu scoffs.

           "Oh. Okay." You nod thoughtfully, relaxing a bit. The large school comes into view and you swallow, hiding near Osamu as you all enter the school, the halls crowded with students. "Ah..."

           "It's okay. Just focus on getting to your first class. Don't be weak." Atsumu says before separating from them.

           "... I'll walk you to your first class." Osamu decides, checking your schedule before leading the way. He takes you to your first class, creative writing. "Here you go." He pauses, sniffing the ear. "There's an imp in there. So be careful." He murmurs, making you tense slightly as you enter class.

        "Pick a place to sit. I don't care much about order." The young teacher tells you. "My name is Mr. Arrow." He adds with a nod.

        "_-___, nice to meet you." You give a bow.

        "___?" A voice echoes and you look over to meet Tendo's gaze as he smiles in greeting, tilting his head. "Looks like we're in this together."

         "T-Tendo!" You gasp in greeting, hugging him. "Oh. Sorry. I didn't mean to jump on you. I-I just..." You stammer in apology.

         "It's okay... I kinda needed that." He chuckles lightly. "I'm glad to see you again. Want to sit together?"

          "Ah. Sure. I'd like that. But how do you remember me?" You ask as you both sit down.

          "Just felt like I was forgetting something. After some digging it came back." He hums leaning his head on his arms.

           "You look tired, Tendo." You frown in concern.

           "Yeah... Long night... We should have a free day today, so I'll sleep..." He breathes, closing his eyes.

           "Okay. Sleep well." You smile, touching his shoulder. He relaxes, smiling softly before drifting off.
