Neighbors

         "Here you go." Your dad sets the two specially made fruit cups in front of you. "Go make some friends." He smiles.

          "Don't worry, they're expecting you." Your mom says happily.

          "Um. Okay then." You manage before picking up the fruit cups and going out and next door to the shrine looking home. "Here we go…" You go to the door and knock.

          "'Tsumu get the door." Someone calls.

          "I'm busy!" The call sounds back.

          "Liar! I see you watching t.v go answer the door!"

         "Fine!" Then there's grumbling approaching the door before it opens to show a blond guy. "Ah." He pauses in surprise. "You came sooner than expected…"

         "Yeah, sorry. I kinda got rushed out of the house." You admit with a smile before peering at the names on the cups. "Here you go Atsumu." You hold his out to him.

         "Oh thanks. Your mom makes really good food. Come on in. You can give 'Samu his." He lets you in before leading you to the kitchen. "It was Aunt Autumn's daughter." He tells his gray haired twin. You pause, looking between them.

         "Wait… Aunt Autumn?" You echo.

         "Our parents are never home so she makes us food sometimes and invites us over for dinner. Kind of became our aunt." Osamu says, mixing something in a bowl. "You can set mine on the counter, thanks." He adds.

          "What are you making?" You ask lightly.

          "I'm making you a greeting cake. But you got here sooner than expected." He says, pouring the batter into a pan.

          "How long were you guys expecting me?" You tilt your head as Atsumu pats on a chair for you to sit down.

          "A few days. Your mom said the silver clouds would be passing over your home soon and that if they affected you, you would come here." Atsumu hums, eating the fruit cup thoughtfully.

         "Oh… That's what happened… What are silver clouds though?" You ask.

         "They're like… Remnants of used magic. When they pass over they sometimes awaken latent magic." Osamu says putting the pan in the oven. "You were surprised huh?" He guesses.

       "Yeah… I was at school…" You sigh.

       "So what are human schools like? Was there screaming? Were they afraid?" Atsumu asks curiously.

        "They were surprised and really confused actually…" You put a knuckle to your chin. "And I won't see them again…" They blink at you before Osamu grabs his fruit cup, putting half on a plate before passing it to you with a spoon.

        "I'm sure you'll be fine. I'll help you out when we start at Blanda." Osamu smiles lightly.

        'He's so nice.' You blink smiling in return.

        "Don't expect the same from Atsumu." He adds bluntly.

        "Yeah no. Good luck." Atsumu hums.

        "Well, thanks for that at least." You smile lightly. "At least you're honest."

        "Nope. He's just a jerk." Osamu breathes.

        "Anyway I got something to do. See ya new girl. Tell your mom thanks for the food." Atsumu says heading out. Osamu frowns at the cup his twin left behind in annoyance before picking it up and putting it in the sink.

         "So. You bake?" He asks, trying not to let the conversation die.

         "Mhm. I like making those little cakes." You tell him.

         "Me too. Actually I was originally going to make you some instead but I always go overboard." He admits.

          "... Wanna make some now?" You ask each other and pause, sharing a smile.

          "Alright. I'll get the ingredients. Show me what you got halfling." He rumbles.

          "So if you're not human… Can I ask what you are?" You ask him as he starts to pull out ingredients.

          "Oh. Atsumu and I are Kitsunes. If you're curious I can lend you a history book of us." He tells you.

          "There's a history book just for Kitsune?" You gasp.

          "Don't worry, most Kitsunes are lazy and summarize things when they write. It's probably a hundred pages tops." He assures in amusement.

          "Oh I see… I wonder if the fairy history book is big…" You tilt your head, starting to help him put ingredients together.

          "Well, I heard fairies helped in Beginning. And they're all about preserving things. So. I'm sure that history book is BIG." He breathes.

          "Oh…" You frown lightly.

          "Intimidating right?" He guesses as you mix everything together.

          "Overwhelming. All of it is… But what can I do about it?" You frown. "I feel helpless, I don't even know who I am now. And I can't help but feel sad."

           "I can't say I understand. I really don't. But. I can imagine it was jarring and leaving your friends must make you feel lonely." He moves to make the icing. "But you seem nice. So let's be friends, and when school starts… Well depending on how good you are. Join the baking club with me."

          "Oh. Then I should really try to leave you in the dust then." You joke lightly.

           "Oh ho? Challenge accepted." Osamu chuckles.

           "Hey 'Samu I'm back…" Atsumu stops in the kitchen doorway. "... Guys… What the hell?" He manages in amazement at the assortment of baked goods.

          "Finally! Tsumu! Try this! It's better than ___'s right?" Osamu gasps, holding a bite sized cake to his twin's lips.

          "Do you like mine?" You offer him a piece as well. Atsumu deadpans before sighing and trying both.

         "___ wins." He licks his lips.

         "Yay!" You chime.

         "I'm not trying the rest though, I want to keep my muscles." Atsumu states, grabbing a juice from the fridge and going out again. You both pause before looking at all of your creations.

         "We… Might have gone overboard." Osamu mutters.

         "I-I can take half home but I don't know if we can eat it all." You offer.

         "How about a quarter? Don't worry, Atsumu was lying, he'll come eat a bunch while I'm asleep and blame it on rodents we don't have." He informs.

          "Quarter sounds good." You nod and he gets containers to put them in. "That was fun though. I don't remember making half of these."

           "Mmm well I think we made these while I was complaining about Atsumu, and these were made while you were talking about flowers." He tries to remember.

         "Oh no. Sorry… I talk about flowers a lot…" You frown.

         "I only understood half of it so I didn't mind." He chuckles. "Okay, here's your share and… It's late so how about I make us a wrap?" He smiles.

         "That sounds good." Atsumu hums coming back in. "Oh, and he only said wraps because he sucks at sandwiches." He adds to you with a smirk.

         "... The bread falls apart too easily! I can't put enough good stuff in it!" Osamu bursts in annoyance making his twin snicker. "You're not getting one now."

         "Ah… But Samu… I'm so hungry…" Atsumu pouts.

         "Alright. But you're walking ___ home." Osamu hums getting to work.

         "Eh? You're next door can't ya walk home alone?" Atsumu sends you a look.

         "Yeah. I'm fine." You tell Osamu.

         "... Do you know what an Imp is?" Osamu asks you.

         "Um… A tricky little demon right?" You tilt your head.

         "That's not totally true. Imps aren't little. They can shrink down to that size though… Imps also… Eat fairies." Osamu tells you.

          "Huh?" You squeak out.

          "Oh right… Yeah I'll walk you home. A fairy hybrid would just make them swarm to eat." Atsumu frowns.

          "What?" You manage shifting uneasily and gripping his sleeve. Atsumu blinks before smirking.

          "You really need to watch out for imps. Even with the laws in place they still hunt down fairies to eat." He whispers leaning closer. "They're so crafty and clever they never get caught because they leave no evidence of their kills. If one ever catches you, you're better off closing your eyes and for… DEATH!" He suddenly grips your arms and you squeak out, covering your face, making him roar with laughter.

          Osamu glares at Atsumu, reaching over and pushing his twin out of his seat. "Don't torment ___.” He sighs before placing a plate in front of you with a soft smile. "Eat up."

           "Thanks… But… He's not kidding is he?" You frown slightly starting to eat.

           "No… Sorry. It's one of the reasons your mom won't leave the house near sundown. A month ago we had to scare off an imp that was hanging around." He tells you. "But don't worry. Kitsunes might not be the strongest but we're definitely stronger than imps." He smiles lightly.

          "Okay. Thank you." You smile.

          "Then why don't you walk ___ home?" Atsumu asks getting back in his seat.

          "Because someone has to put up all these desserts." Osamu points out.

          "... Fair enough." Atsumu shrugs.

          After you three finish eating, Osamu passes you the kitsune history book and Atsumu leads you out to walk you home in silence.

          "... Um… Thank you, and sorry." You tell him.

          "Hm? Oh don't worry about it. You're new to all of this so you're super weak right now." He shrugs. "Can't really blame you though.'

          "Ah… I see… Still." You rub your cheek.

         "Hm? You're really timid too huh? Must be a fairy thing. I heard that if they get angry they can die." He comments. "That's pretty boring."

          "... I'm uh… sorry?" You blink at him. He was right, you've never been mad before. He meets your gaze, becoming thoughtful.

          "I think I'll try that." He says. "Making you mad."

           "Ah… But why? That's mean." You frown heavily. He just pats your head in response as you reach the door.

           "Have a good night." He hums opening the door for you, closing it behind you once you're in.

           "___! You made friends!"  Your mom chimes, zooming up and hugging your neck. "I knew you'd hit it off! They're such good boys!"

           "Heh… They're nice. And look! I brought desserts!" You hold up the container. "Oh and Osamu lent me their history book. Do we have one too? For fairies I mean?" You ask

           "Yes! I'll have your dad take it up to your room." She grins zipping back out as you take the container to the counter in the kitchen. You go back out and up the stairs to start reading the kitsune history. As you settle in your dad comes in with an incredible big and thick book, setting it on the desk.

        "Phew… That's heavy. You're going to need a magnifying glass too." He says, setting one on the book. "I'm glad you're curious though." He sends you a smile.

        "Right. Thanks dad." You go over to the book as he leaves and swallow, opening it up to the first page.

~~~
        He stops at a center page, magnifying glass going over the tiny words. "A memory erasing wind stops the elf and demon war…" He murmurs before pausing and rubbing his temple as an image flickers by. "Did I forget someone?" He mutters.
          Shrill screams from the kitchen makes him frown and put in his headphones and turn up the music as he continues reading. More images flickering in and out of his head until the all finally link together.
         "___…" He whispers eyes widening. He suddenly pulls out his headphones and rushes for the living room where his dad sat. "I changed my mind. I'll go to Blanda."
