*26* Tutor Koraphat

When Mark called us, I didn't think it would be so serious.  He just said he needed to meet us immediately.  In a hurry, we canceled all plans for the rest of the evening, in the series I was supposed to play in to watch over Kaownah, I pretended I was sick, so they gave me two days off to get myself together.  It was weird, it's usually hard to ask for an hour off!  I met Yim at the entrance to the hotel on the main street, where Mark had arranged to meet us.  He was hiding under a black umbrella, on which raindrops flowed in tiny streams.  All around us, people were in a hurry to seek shelter, hiding their heads under makeshift coverings such as sweatshirts, thin jackets and shopping bags.  It took me a full 15 minutes to get there and I was angry at myself for taking so long.  I usually cover the same route in a maximum of 8 minutes.  It means I need to practice it again because I'm starting to get out of shape.

— Do you know what it might be? —   Yim asked me.

— I don't know, but it must be something important, or he wouldn't get us out of important meetings — I replied, and we both took out our gun passes at the same time in case we were stopped, but the porter, who knew us well, only  nodded his head to us and let us pass.

We quickly rushed to the top floor, to a little-used conference room.  Mark was already there waiting with his laptop on the table in front of him and a mug of Starbucks coffee.  Mark rarely drinks coffee, and if he does, he's facing a major investigation and a lot of paperwork.  If only he didn't drive us to it, neither me nor Yim are very good at it, we can play different characters, we're just two actors who met on the set of the BL series "Cutie Pie", no one knows  our true identity.  Well, except for Max, Nat, New and Zee, but they need to know.  We can only hope they don't tell anyone.  I can count on New because I know that he takes things like security very seriously, but I'm a little worried about Zee, he almost screwed up once, almost revealing that  Saint, in whom fans and the label saw his lover and partner, is actually  hetero.  Oh what a messed up thing!  In other countries, LGBT people have to pretend they're straight, here they pretend to be gay, although if they really were gay, they wouldn't get a damn role as an excuse, and you can use the excuse that other actors would feel uncomfortable in the company of such a person.  What nonsense!  The guys in a few hours will board a plane and fly to Italy.  We went to that casting mainly to accompany and protect them.  The funniest thing is that our job is... To be conspicuous!  What an irony!

— Do you have any idea why I called you here? — Mark asked us a question without any introduction or greeting.  It awakened the spy part of me.  I could already smell the mysteries, the riddles we were meant to solve.  I loved adventures, I loved adrenaline and fear.  Yes, I liked being scared and I liked solving new cases.  Not only was I an actor and a bodyguard, I was also a private investigator and that was my most important job, acting, like faking a relationship with my best friend, was just a cover.

Mark was older than us by at least 15 years, although his exact age is unknown, he looked even younger.  We heard he brought Perth Nakhun all the way from Australia.  What for?  We didn't know that.  It was said that it was about some family problems Perth, but Perth himself did not say a word about it.

Yim and I exchanged worried glances.

— There's a bigger action coming up, I want you and Zee and the others to go to Italy for the Formula 1 race, keep an eye on them and report back to me. I want to know everything: where, when and with whom they met, who told them what and if there were any shady characters around them.

— That's understandable, boss, but why so suddenly? — Yim asked.  He was serious and focused, but I knew that under the mask of emotionless and colorless member of a small and not quite well-known group of actors, there was an enthusiast of new adventures, who felt adrenaline and impatience pumping through his veins as much as I did.  He only smiled from the corners of his mouth.  It's funny that that was his nickname: Yim - Smile.

— Hmmm... I don't think anything bad will happen if I let you in this time, but!

— Yes?

Mark came over to me and tapped my forehead with his finger.

— Nobody can know what you're really doing, is it clear?

—  Like sky! —  We shouted back in unison.  We didn't understand why he needed our reassurance about it, after all, he knew that after these two years of quite fruitful cooperation.  He should know us well enough by now to know that we don't blabber about our missions and plans.

— So I'll start from the beginning. I spoke to your colleague Perth Nakhun yesterday, you know him, right?

— Yes, we played together in the series "Cutie Pie.

— Excellent, so I don't have to explain too much to you.  The situation is that Perth got first-hand information about P'Sky and P'Cloud's criminal activities.

— Huh?!  P'Cloud too?! — I exclaimed in surprise.  You can say that I didn't expect such a turn of events at all.

— Yes, I have good reason to suspect that the two are working together.  While P'Sky is steeped in evil, P'Cloud pretends to be the good one.  It's like playing the good cop and the bad cop, one intimidating and using violence, the other trying to win the friendship and trust of his victims.  We don't yet have any evidence that officially and unambiguously links them to many of the crimes, but if you can get Saint Suppapong, Max Rujeerattanavorapan, and Kaownah Kittipat to talk, I think there'll be some connection.

— Kaownah?  Is that why you had us follow him?

— Yes.  I got a tip from a trusted person that Kaownah is also a victim of P'Sky and P'Cloud, but we don't yet know how your job will be not only to keep them safe, but also to obtain much-needed information.  Officially, the police can't do anything, without hard evidence, they won't even touch the case.  That's our role.  We must keep our eyes and ears wide open.

—Okay boss, but what about Saint?  Do you know that he will also take part in the recording of this new series? —  Yim made sure.

— Of course I know that, and that makes me very happy, it will make it easier to keep an eye on them all.  Oh, and I'd like three other actors to join you, their safety may also be at risk, so we got them roles at the last minute, they may not even be on the official list yet.

— Oh!  And who is that?

Mark handed us the folders of documents.  Not without surprise I read first name... Jimmy Jitaraphol Potiwihok?  The second one was just as surprising: Yoon Phusanu Wongsavanischakorn.  The third of them was Yin Anan Wong.

— Now I think it's safer to add Kaownah to that list.  The guys will be waiting for you when they arrive from Italy, I believe that Darcy and Annie will find something to do for them.  And I just want to keep an eye on them.

—All right boss.  Do you have any suspicions?  What do we even know about them?

— Yin and Yoon are brothers, but they grew up in different parts of the country.  Yin uses an abbreviated surname while his older brother uses his full surname.  Yoon was born on April 1, 1994, and Yin was born on October 1, 1998. Neither of them have any records, nor do they have any ties to the mafia.  Jimmy is different.  We recently did DNA testing and it looks like Jimmy Jitaraphol Potiwihok is Zee's younger half-brother.

— WHAT?!  Zee's brother?!

I immediately started searching Jimmy's Instagram profile to look at his photos.  Yim, who must have read my mind or just had the same idea, checked Zee in turn.  I took the phone from his hand and started comparing Zee's photos with Jimmy's.

— They don't even look alike! —  I spoke a little too loudly, and both Mark and Yim gestured for silence.

— Actually, no one should know we're here — Mark hissed.  He didn't say it out loud, but I could tell by the look on his face that he was a little angry with me, or maybe just disappointed in me.  I've been working with him for three years now and I'm still not used to everything, but living a double life, being a security guard, a detective and an actor all at the same time gave me enough adrenaline to love it.  I wanted to climb higher and higher, I wanted to solve more and more important cases, I dreamed that one day I would have my own detective office, and for now I had to be content with what I had, and I had so much: I could work with a person who  day was just an ordinary, unobtrusive acting teacher at one of the schools in Bangkok.  Only his closest associates knew about his secret crime-solving addiction.  P'Mark was an idol for both of us, someone who set a great example to follow.  We liked his dedication to his work, his commitment and the way he worked on each case, believing that each topic should be approached individually.

—Okay, but who ordered the DNA test and where did you get the DNA samples from both of them? —  Yim asked curiously and I nodded.  I wanted to know that too.

— Well... This may surprise you, but I was asked by the author of this story you're going to play from.

— You mean Annie?!

— Do you know another author whose story we are currently playing?

— Oh right, stupid question, sorry.

— Exactly.  I was surprised too, but Annie told me that she thought Jimmy and Zee looked suspiciously similar.  I personally had to go to Jimmy's to get a sample, but we've had Zee's sample for a long time.  All information is also in our database, check it out before you arrive in Italy.  And try to keep Saint and Zee out of your sight the most, if they split up, you split up too.  If you need any help, call me on my private number or talk to Perth.  Don't forget to close the rooms carefully.  If anything concerns you, please let me know immediately.

— Boss?

— Uhm?

— When did you talk to Annie?  You weren't at the casting...

— You're right, but I didn't want to stand out.  Annie met Saint for a while in a bar, their conversation was not the most pleasant and Annie wanted to deny him a place on her show, luckily I managed to convince her that it was important.  Remember that apart from Perth, Zee, NuNew, Max and Natasitt, no one knows about your true identities, you must not let yourself be deciphered.

— Yes, boss! We will do as you tell us. — I saluted, straightening up as if I were a soldier in the army.

— Thank you.  And remember not to get yourself killed, your corpses won't help me, I need you alive and fit.

After leaving the hotel, I immediately called P'Nay, the director of the series in which I co-starred with Kaownah.  P'Nay already knew that he would be short of two actors for a while, one of whom was a leading character, but he didn't seem worried about it.  He said he understood perfectly well, after all, he himself would have made the same decision if he had to choose between producing a film for a small Thai Internet television or producing a series for a huge, global company that entered its cars in Formula 1,  would have chosen the latter option.  I thanked him politely.  The Yim all this time stood still, listening to my conversation.  He had no employment at the moment, so he didn't have to worry about such matters.

— Listen, Yim, I have to go out to get something else, I don't know when I'll be back.  Could you pack me too?

— Yeah, I just need to check the weather forecast for Italy so I know what to bring. Do you think it's warm there this time of year?

— I suppose so, although it's certainly cooler than ours. It wouldn't hurt to pack one jacket at a time.  I think so. — I replied as I watched Yim scroll through his phone on the aura condition forecast for the first week of September around Milan.

— Hey, looks like we're lucky, it's going to be warm and sunny all week! —  He was happy and showed me the screen.  In fact, it was precisely such forecasts that pleased us the most.  That meant we wouldn't waste any time.

— Okay, I'm going to Kaownah, I need to discuss some details with him. — I patted Yim on the shoulder.  He sighed briefly, looking disappointed.

—You won't even give me a kiss on the cheek goodbye? — He joked, puckering his lips and raising his hands to his eyes as if imitating wiping away tears.  — Buuuuu!  I will be sad!

I looked around but saw nothing suspicious.  The rain has stopped now, but most people have already hid in their houses for good.  We were used to it, I wondered if it would be the same in Italy: heat that makes you sweat during the day, downpours in the evening and not so cool nights.  A woman was walking along the sidewalk towards our hotel, talking on the phone, a group of teenagers still dressed in their school uniforms were probably telling each other some funny stories, because they burst into loud laughter every now and then, cars, motorbikes and tuk-tuks were moving along the way as usual, there was no  Nothing out of the ordinary happened, so I approached Yim and gave him a quick peck on the cheek.  It was our ritual, that's how we wished each other good luck.  Before the more important actions, this wasn't enough, then we hugged as long as possible, after which everyone left to do their duties.  However, it happened that one of us left the house much earlier, while the other was still asleep.  Then we wrote it down on a large white board placed in the bedroom in such a way that we could see it immediately after waking up.

Everything was perfectly organized in our life together: in the bedroom, in addition to this board, there was also a cork board on which we used colored pins to attach the updated, printed schedule for the next day, and a separate plan for the week.  Sometimes there were also colorful pieces of paper with notes about something we were working on.  There were also the usual ones like: "I took out the garbage, you feed the fish" or: "I made dinner, it's in the fridge, warm it up because I don't know when I'll be back" or finally: "Take an umbrella with you, because it will definitely rain."  .  In the house, every room was divided exactly in half: one side was black, white, and gold, Yim style, and the other, eye-catching color, was mine.  We came up with it already at the design stage, when we couldn't agree on the interior design.  Yim liked black, white and gold, I preferred something livelier, bolder, more elegant.  As a result, in the dining room at the table we had chosen together, there were three black chairs with white upholstery on one side, and pink and purple chairs on the other, which I had chosen as a joke only because they stood out from the other furniture in the living room we visited.  Everyone who found out about us was in deep shock.  Even the floors were laid out in the same style: half the kitchen floor was black tiles, the other half green and blue tiles, laid out in a checkerboard pattern.  The furniture on the right, in my part, was green and white, while Yim's was black with gold handles and tops.

Only the bedroom was decorated in a calmer style.  The walls were a soft pink, the bedding light blue, and the furniture light wood.  Our apartment may have looked quirky and extravagant, but it was very cozy for us.  We also had a cellar where we not only stored wines or various preserves from our parents, but also a shooting range where we practiced our skills from time to time.
Going to Kaownah, I kept thinking about it.  If all goes well, in two weeks we will be back to our own four walls, but you also have to be prepared for the eventuality that we will have to settle somewhere closer.

A little note, so as not to cause unnecessary misunderstandings: I use the real names of the actors so that it is easier for you to imagine the events that take place in this story.  It's easier for me to write when I have a character in front of me.  It's also that when I was writing this novel, I spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of role would be best suited to which artist.  Some characters, especially the negative ones, are completely fictional.  My story is not intended to offend anyone, to cause any harm.  No sentence should be taken as true because the whole thing is fictional just like the BL series that I used as inspiration.  Please remember this IS FICTION!!!
