School Begins
Walking up to the front door of the school with the wind blowing my hair, I felt pretty confident about the day ahead of me. Seeing the sign that read the school's name, Silver Leaf High, I thought that it was a rather interesting name. Seeing the front door of the lobby, I grabbed the handle and pulled it open.
Stepping into the lobby, I heard the muffled chaos coming from the lunch room, as students were waiting for the bell to ring on their first day back. Grabbing a seat by the lobby door, a woman wearing a navy blue blouse, and a black jacket walked up to me and greeted me.
"Mr. Mitchell, it's nice to meet you." The woman greeted, as she extended her hand
Getting up from the chair and shaking her hand, I smiled back politely.
"Nice to meet you as well," I replied
"My name is Misty Cooper, please call me Ms. Cooper. Why don't we go to my office so I can explain things further in depth with you." Ms. Cooper said, as she led the way to her office
Looking in her office as we came closer, I noticed it was tiny compared to the lobby of the office. The desk was scrunched up in the corner, with filing cabinets behind. On the desk was two monitors as well as a picture of Ms. Cooper and her family.
"Mr. Mitchell, you are familiar with high school yes? I have to ask because we sometimes get homeschooled students." Ms. Cooper explained
"Yeah, I know how high school works. I know about the cliques as well as who, and what to avoid," I replied with a nod
"Alright, good. Now with that out of the way, lets talk about your classes," she went on
Taking a deep breath before she continued, she clicked a few buttons on the computer before starting to read the list.
"First hour is History with Mr. Brown. Second hour is Tech Lab with Mrs. Nova. Third hour is Biology with Mrs. Catherine. Fourth hour is your lunch period, you have a 45 minute lunch break. We like to have our students take their time," Ms. Cooper paused as she took a breath before continuing
"Fifth hour is Math with Mr. Maxwell. Sixth hour is Ghostology with Mr. Hunter. Its personally my favorite course this semester. Last but not least is seventh hour being Creative Writing, with Mr. Abel," She finished with before turning to look back at me
"Ghostology, ma'am? That's an unusual course," I questioned her
"We like to try new and exciting courses each year, this is by far a favorite among previous students," she explained
"Are you ready to meet your teachers Mr. Jaxon?" she asked
"Sure, why not," I replied with a shrug
"That's the spirit, now let me call some students to show you around," Ms. Cooper told me before she leaned forward, holding down a button on the microphone before continuing speaking.
"Jay Simmons and Tori Edmunds, please report to the principals office," She said before leaning back into her chair.
The first person that came into her office was who I presumed to be Jay. He was a nice looking guy. His skin tone was a light tan color. His hair was a lighter brown color, and his eyes were an almost silver color. He gave me a cheeky grin before extending his hand.
" Hey there new kid, I'm Jay," Jay said
Taking a hold of Jay's hand, I introduced myself
"Hello Jay, I'm Jaxon," I replied with, ending the handshake
The next person that walked in was Tori. She head long auburn hair, and wore a contagious smile. Her eyes sparkled as she walked over towards me and Jay.
"Hi, I'm Tori, nice to meet you," she said as she grabbed my hand and gave it a shook.
"Would you two mind accompanying Mr. Jaxon here, and show him the whereabouts of the school?" Ms. Cooper asked Jay and Tori
"Sure, I would be happy to," Tori replied with a smile
"Not like I have much of a choice, sure why not," Jay said
"Good answer Jay, now off you go, I have some work to do." Ms. Cooper said, waving us out the door.
Walking into the lobby once more, I stopped to look at my schedule once more.
"So what classes do you have?" Tori asked, as she tried to peak at the paper
"Well here's my schedule if you want to look at it," I told her, handing the paper over
Tori grabbed the paper and started to look over it thoroughly. Jay leaned over slightly and took a peak as well.
"Ghostology with Mr. Hunter, I have that too!" Tori exclaimed happily.
"So do I, I also have Math with you," Jay finally spoke up
Walking out of the office lobby, we went into the cafeteria where chaos reigned supreme. People talked loudly, throwing objects across the room. Most people were on their phones and occasionally looked upwards, seeing what was going on around them. The bell rang, and the kids stampeded the hallways. Everyone was pushing and shoving one another, trying to get to their first class. People stood in groups and blocked the hall, as others tried to push past.
"This should be fun," Jay muttered as the three of us took off down the hall, after the crazy stampede.
"Here is your first class, you and Jay have this hour as well. Jay will help you if you need it," Tori said before she briskly walked towards her class.
"Well here goes nothing," I said as we both walked in.
Jay and I walked towards the back of the room, as students began piling in. Another bell rang, and the last few students trickled in, along with the teacher. The teacher came in carrying a briefcase, papers poking through the corners as he set it down on the desk. He straightened his shirt, and looked up at the class. Seeing me next to Jay the teacher spoke up.
"Mr. uh," the teacher started to say,
"Jaxon," I said
"Ah, Mr. Jaxon. Mind coming up here for a minute?" Mr. Brown asked me as he waved me forward
Walking up to the desk, I looked at the students around me. Some of them snickered, and others turned around and whispered to their friends.
"Yes sir?" I asked Mr. Brown quietly
"Here is a syllabus for what you'll need to be successful in this class. Lucky for you, we are only about two weeks into the semester, so you should catch up easily. Could you stand in front of the desk for a moment?" Mr. Brown asked me
Doing as I was told, I stood in front of the desk and held onto the packet that he had given me. I looked at the students as I felt them silently judging me. I looked over towards Jay, who just shrugged, before the teacher spoke up again.
"Everyone this is Jaxon Mitchell, his family just moved into town. He will be attending school with us," Mr. Brown said to the class
"Hey cutie!" I heard someone shout from their desk.
Another student whistled at me, before I was able to return to my desk.
"Class, please don't trouble Mr. Jaxon, just because he's the new kid," The teacher said before going about the daily lesson.
The day went on and I kept doing the same routine. I met the teachers, got introduced to the class, got handed the syllabus, and learned where my classes were.
Finally the last bell rang, and I started to go out into the hall before heading down to the cafeteria. Seeing Jay and Tori talking at the front doors, I walked over to them, clutching my stack of syllabi so they wouldn't get blown all over the place.
"Hey Jax! How was your first day?" Tori asked me as she came to give me a hug
"It was good, got a bunch of stuff I have to get," I replied, hugging her back.
"Already after the new guy, really Tori?" a taunting voice said from behind
Breaking apart from Tori I turned around and saw three girls walking towards us. The one in the middle seems to be the pack leader of the other two.
"Really pathetic Tori. Truly a shame," the middle one spoke again
"If you don't leave us alone Vivian, I will bitch slap you so hard, it'll knock you unconscious," Tori said as she clenched her hands into fists.
"Easy there Tori, no need to get a suspension already," Jay said, placing a hand on her shoulder, trying to calm her.
"Jay, you too? Why stick around Tori, and hang out with me instead?" Vivian mocked and blew a kiss towards Jay.
"Seriously though, you need to leave. Go bug someone else for a change, you've gotten really annoying within the first few weeks of school." Jay said, glaring at Vivian and her crew.
"Be careful who you choose as friends, new kid," Vivian said to me
"First off, the name's Jaxon, and secondly I know who my friends are. I'm also going to make sure to avoid you at all costs," I replied, getting agitated with Vivian already.
"Easy there, I thought it was Jay's job to be the bad boy," Vivian said before she blew a kiss and brushed past us.
"I am so done with her already," Tori said, as we walked out the front doors of the school.
I started to grab my phone from my pocket and unlocked it, before Jay snatched it from my hand.
"Jay!" Tori exclaimed, punching him in the arm.
"What, I'm just putting my information into his phone, so if Queen Bee comes along and bugs him, or if he needs help, he can call me at any time." Jay said as he rubbed his arm.
"Oh, great idea! My turn next," Tori said as she took the phone from Jay's hands.
"Easy with my phone! All my music is on there, and I live by my music," I said as Tori continued putting in her information.
I held out my hand towards Tori, who looked at my hand for a moment before she spoke.
"Fine, here's your lifeline back," Tori said jokingly as she handed it back
A car horn honked twice from behind. As I looked over my shoulder, I noticed it was my mom's van.
"See you guys later, I have to go," I said to the both of them
"See you later Jax!" Tori shouted, before turning back towards Jay to continue their conversation.
Getting into my mom's van, I looked out the passenger window and waved back at Tori and Jay one last time before we pulled away.
"So, who were they?" mom questioned me, as we started to turn onto Red Hill Lane.
"Jay and Tori. They showed me around the school today so I wouldn't get lost," I replied with a smile
Passing over the bridge with no issues, we turned right into our driveway. As we rolled to a stop in the driveway, I noticed Dominic by the trees again, before he darted off.
"Mom, there was Dominic by the trees again!" I shouted to get her attention
"Jaxon, please. No more about Dominic. It's all you talked about since we got here," mom said with agitation
"But mom!" I whined, trying to get her to listen
"No buts, enough is enough!" mom said as she got out of the van, dropping the conversation once more
