In which Marshall gets a black eye
"You need to relax." He huffed.
She blinked at him. "How long have you been hanging upside down like that?"
"A couple of minutes. I thought if I just straight up dropped down on your balcony you'd toss me over the edge. Can I get down now? My legs kind of hurt."
"Be my guest." Fionna hid a smile, and Marshall dropped down as gracefully as he could.
"Aren't you worried about Jazz recreating that?" Fionna asked.
Marshall shrugged. "She can barely stand monkey bars. Now... back to the problem with Stupid Perfect Jeremy..."
"Is that what this is about?" Fionna demanded.
Marshall sighed. "I know I messed up, okay? I know that! And I know you moved on... well, kind of. I bet you wouldn't have let Jeremy do that, hm?"
"Jeremy doesn't have the leg strength." Fionna shrugged. "He wouldn't try it unless he wanted to get blown over the park by the wind."
Marshall cracked a wicked grin, and Fionna shot him a look. "Don't hurt him, okay? It's my decision whether or not to date you."
"Yeah, yeah, I get that. But I'm still going to try. You're only dating the guy for Dessie's sake anyway, and she hates him, and she thinks I'm your soulmate."
"Dessie is five." Fionna huffed.
"Fionna, you know you don't want to date him! If you find a guy that you actually like, then fine, I'll back off, but you don't even seem to like him that much!"
"Well, I like the thought of living with him a whole lot more than getting my daughter taken away from me!"
A cold silence fell over them.
"They wouldn't..." Marshall muttered. "You raised her. She hates him. The government sides with mothers anyway. Take your pick of reasons."
"He's got more money than me to hire a lawyer." Fionna retorted. "If-if Jade came back, would you risk losing Jazz?"
Marshall flinched, and Fionna nodded. "That's what I thought."
"I might." Marshall muttered. "Dating her again would just be hell for me, and I'm pretty sure she knows it by now. Besides, Jazz would kick up a fuss until they let her stay with me."
"Well, Dessie doesn't kick up fusses." Fionna pointed out, crossing her arms and leaning against the balcony fence. "She's a good girl."
Marshall blinked at her for a second, before smirking. "Well... where do you think she got it from, hm?"
"What are you doing?" Fionna asked warily.
Marshall grinned wolfishly. None of the pain from yesterday seemed to be there, just a bit of anger at his refusal to understand the situation.
He leaned in close, pressing his body against hers.
"What are you doing?" She asked, a blush rising.
He started kissing her neck. "If you tell me to stop, I'll stop."
"Are you crazy?! What if Jeremy sees?!"
"Tell him to piss off. Are you two even kissing?" Marshall challenged. "Or hell, have you even held hands since he got back from Antarctica or wherever?"
"It wasn't Antarctica..." Fionna muttered, staring straight at his lips. "And this counts as cheating, so I don't think we should do this. I know you feel bad, but... everything has to end, right?"
"Look me in the eye and tell me you don't want this as bad as I do." He breathed, before kissing her neck again.
"It's a little hard from here." She pointed out. Her eyes suddenly widened and she clocked him.

"What happened to you?" Jazz asked Marshall, who was draped over the couch, a bag of frozen peas over his left eye.
"Long story short, Fionna did. She was not pleased when I... well... I'll tell you when you're older. I might have blown the whole thing, though..."
"What did you do?"
"Well, I..." Marshall sighed. "Again, I'll tell you when you're older. Now, if a boy ever touches you in a way you don't like, punch him, 'kay Blues?"
Jazz nodded. "Is that what happened?"
"Well, she seemed to be enjoying it... I guess that's no excuse though." Marshall groaned. "God, she must hate me now."
Jazz ran to the door after persistent knocking, and Dessie and Fionna stepped in, Fionna's collar pulled up to her chin.
"Aren't you hot?" Jazz asked.
Fionna sighed. "No, I'm fine, thanks... you okay, Marshall?"
"You're still talking to me?" He blinked his good eye rapidly a few times, before grinning.
She shot him a look. "It's not encouragement for you to do it again, Marshall. What do you think Jeremy's going to say when he finds out?!"
"One, who said he has to find out? Two, since when does his opinion matter?"
"It matters because I'm dating him! And he's going to find out the minute I take off the coat!" Fionna snapped. "You weren't exactly subtle, Marshall Lee."
He smirked. "I never promised I wouldn't bite."
Fionna flushed. "We are not talking about this in front of Dessie. It was a moment of weakness..."
"Oh, I'm your weakness now?" He grinned wolfishly.
She glared at him. "It's not happening again, Marshall. It was a mistake, and you've got the black eye to prove it."
"You don't even like him!" Marshall repeated. "Show me a guy that you really like, and I'll leave you alone. Look me in the eyes and tell me that you don't want this, and I'll let it drop. Tell me stop, and I will. I just... I know I'm being an ass --don't say that word, kids-- but... I don't want to give up without a fight." He threw his head back, sighing loudly. "It's like the stars aligned for one moment and then they immediately went out of sync again."
"Maybe we're not meant to be together." Fionna replied.
Marshall snorted. "Then screw fate." Then he smirked. "And maybe you could screw--"
She threw a couch pillow at him, and he sighed. "Point taken."
She nodded once. "Finally."
*Author's Note*
In case you were wondering, he gave her a hickey. That's why she punched him.
