Seahorse Dad

Being pregnant was both the most incredible experience Adam had ever had, and the most difficult time he'd had in a long while with his gender identity that he'd spent so long building up.

He knew factually he was a man. That was that, it could be proven and had been proven time and time again. Sometimes his foundation felt shaky from a flippant comment or misgendering whether blatant or not, but it stayed steadfast after he'd turned 22. Now he was 30, still in the body of a 24 year old he guessed thanks to his extremely crazy life.

It could be said that there were a lot more problems with his depression than he would like to let on during his pregnancy.

Most of the others didn't even know some, like why he wore that gigantic sweater almost every day for three months and cried when it was taken away from him to get washed.

Hazel rubbed his cheek. "Baby. My handsome husband, we've–,"

Adam's lip started to tremble before he even said it. His eyes filled with tears and Hazel huffed his sorrow as they brimmed. "Please don't take my hoodie..." He already sounded like he was crying because he was and this hoodie was his baby blanket right now. They could Febreeze it, he was man enough to admit he was willing to go that far. But his body started to feel like it was turning against him, and it was tearing him apart. It wasn't as bad as it was at first, it was slowly lessening, but he was so damn emotional that everything made him cry or throw up from crying. He hated it and sometimes when the house was empty he'd scream in the shower and cry because the hormones were driving him nuts.

He hated this, but he loved their baby.

Hazel crouched and rubbed the tears from his cheeks tenderly. "Adam, this thing is so fucking disgusting. I have to wash it."

He started sobbing but nodded, nudging Hazel away to cry harder. "Do we have any cheesecake?"

"Adam," Hazel pleaded. Adam was extra allergic to dairy carrying and it made him miserable for at least an hour but that was his number one pregnancy craving of course. He looked up at Hazel like a scolded toddler with that damn lip tremble that broke his fucking heart and the man sighed. "Yes. Can we trade? Cheesecake for two hours without the hoodie?"

"I hate this body."

"And I love it," Hazel replied earnestly, wiggling his fingers. "Adam, come. We're going to the store."

He looked up at him in confusion. "Why?"

"I'm going to buy you ten of those so–," His voice cracked and Adam realized Hazel was crying. "So I never have to hear you cry again. You're breaking my heart and I wanna help you, so I'm doing my best. I can't fix your dysphoria but I can try."

It worked.

Anna would grab his hand and call him Daddy with the voice of an absolute angel and he'd want to be anywhere she went. He was clingy, whiny clingy. She was patient and understanding in a way he was a little surprised by. For the first time he could recall, she seemed like she was aging up inside. The horrors of Labyrinth haunted them all, and Anna's inner child was the only one not present for her first appearance, she sang with Anna's voice in her body. Anna being her inner child scared her into an identity crisis but she was now looking like she was settling down. She kissed at his forehead. "You're such a good Seahorse Daddy."

He chuckled and looked up at her blearily to slur, "Thank you, Anna~. You're a good Seahorse Mommy."

Her eyes narrowed at him calling her Mommy as opposed to Baby. "When was the last time you slept?"

"Thursday."

Hazel nearly dropped the pan he was cooking with. He'd just known something weird was up with him lately. "Adam, it's Saturday morning! Go to sleep!"

He nodded and passed out on Anna's lap for however long he wanted to because he was pregnant and wanted to be held or he might sink into the core of the Earth.

Despite how slow going it felt, soon he was 34 weeks pregnant with a baby boy wearing a crop top and munching on a celery stick. No hoodie in sight. He passed Jacob in the kitchen and then greeted Jasmin and Connie to complain about how this was hell.

Jacob shook his head and tried to figure out in what way this could be a sin. "I actually cannot believe this is my life. I have three pregnant spouses."

"That's the most American thing you've ever said," Steven muttered, watching them converse closely. He sighed heavily at his wife's whining. "Connie, if your back hurts that bad, we're getting you a heating pack."

"Why can't you just glow and spoon me?" She complained.

Steven grinned. "Holy shit. Deal."

Hazel pretended to gag at Steven and got a playful nudge. "I can't believe you guys have been married for years and you still light up like you did way back at Nova like she's your crush. Aren't you getting old?"

The hybrid chuffed humorously. "We don't have to talk about all that right now..." He sighed and looked the other way. "And soon we won't have to at all."

They sat in a tense silence before Jacob smiled up at Steven. "It's gonna go okay. So far so great. I trust you."

They returned their attention to their pregnant partners and smiled when they were all giving puppy dog eyes. "Tuna," Jasmin demanded sweetly. "Tuna sounds so good right now."

Jacob sighed. "This is what I get for making tuna melts. How many?" He tugged open the bread cabinet and swept his gaze over it while they murmured to each other.

"Ten," Jasmin said confidently.

The three boys stared at them in horror and Jacob laughed tensely. "Jasmin, I'm not going to make you guys 10 toasties."

Her lip trembled and it cracked at him but he refused to back down. They'd eat themselves sick, Adam had done it twice and he'd had to stop Jasmin from almost doing the same. It wasn't on purpose, they were just various parts of nearly almost through pregnancy and starving. Connie sank to the floor and started to cry, 32 weeks pregnant and rubbing her swollen tummy miserably. "I know I'm being ridiculous but I want it and it feels like you hate me."

Jacob caught the dangerous stare of her husband and decided he was not going to find out how exactly Jasper had died. He made them the sandwiches, and they ate two and a half between them.

Adam was obviously bigger than the others even though his due date was ambiguous with the baby being so big, and it was absolutely fascinating to Jacob. He waddled around sometimes being grumpy about something and he'd pull him into a hug from behind. "How can you look so good and be so grouchy?"

He narrowly avoided a nut tap and circled back around front to massage his shoulders. Adam started to cry at the loving touch. The feelings sometimes were so overwhelming.

At 37 weeks, they found Adam standing in front of a mirror and staring at the bump that was full of baby. Every once in a while a little foot would kick. He could see the life in there and it was incredible.

"Adam, are you okay?" Anna asked carefully.

He nodded but didn't burst into tears. Instead he put a hand over his stomach and patted it. "I'm starving for someone to spoon feed me the left over mac and cheese from that steak place. And then..." He frowned. "Can we go to the steak place again?"

"You don't remember what it's called?" Hazel chuckled as they started digging in their pockets to make sure they had everything.

Adam shook his head and shuffled after them. "No. Can I hold your hand when we get there?"

Hazel gave him a gentle squeeze. "The whole time if you want me to. You can sit in my lap and I'll feed you."

"Okay."

There were a lot of times he had convinced himself they were only having one kid and that was that.

Adam scrubbed at his nose and glanced at the calendar. He was now 37 weeks and one day. Time was dragging on. At this point, he could go into labor and it would be viable but the damn kid was comfortable despite Adam's discomfort. "Hello? Is anyone home?"

Three pairs of footsteps found him fast to make sure he was okay. Hazel observed his hands and arms, he looked over every inch of him and pulled him into a hug. "Jesus Christ I thought something terrible had happened."

Adam rolled his eyes at the other two. "Get this fucking baby out of me. Today. Right now."

Hazel reeled back. "Anna! Come get your boyfriend!"

She skipped in followed by a curious Connie, Jasmin and Alex. "Is somebody a Grumpy Gus today?" She crooned and pinched his cheeks. "Does someone need a nap and some milk?"

Adam blinked in mute shock and removed her hand from his face like she was crazy. "A-are you trying to Little me?" She went pale and suddenly he was bombarded with memory after memory of being babied for nearly eight months.

She gave him a tiny involuntary smirk and shook her head wildly. "No! No, of course not! You're our big strong man and we love you!"

He liked the praise but became all the more suspicious when she gave the rest a pointed look and their smirks turned into agreeing a bit too loudly.

"Oh, of course!" Steven burst, pulling Connie a bit closer. "Yeah I've never so much as tucked you in many, many nights and you've haven't been clingy at all!"

Connie frowned up at him. "You're a horrible liar."

"You're beautiful," He laughed, causing a rosy cheeked smile to light up her face. "All swollen with my baby. So pretty. Ugh, come here."

Jacob picked up the slack for Steven on three hours of sleep because Jasmin could not stay away from the idea of making more babies while already being full of two. He was thoroughly exhausted when he proclaimed, "Yeah, yeah, no we totally didn't spend a good 90% of the pregnancy absolutely worshiping you guys so we wouldn't ever have to see you cry. I'm not tired at all."

Hazel opened his mouth to lie but Adam glared at him. "Uh... I don't know what they're talking about? I– I like taking care of you guys."

"I want more," Steven and Jacob blurted, then smiled, linked hands and fused.

Jaden rubbed at their eyes. "Holy cunt, I totally thought Steven would be less cream-crackered if fused with Jacob but fuckall."

Adam sighed for a very long time. "This is it. One baby. No more."

Anna smiled knowingly. "Of course."

Connie and Jasmin got to sleep with a big comfy man as he konked out on Steven and Connie's bed. Adam passed out anywhere because he was so tired constantly, and Hazel would carry him to bed.

The next day, he was having a conversation with them. He felt a little more lively, and he sneezed in the most adorable way. "Fuck, I..."

They watched as a puddle far too big to consider urine pooled underneath him. He put a hand on his stomach and whispered, "I don't think that's pee."

Then came the absolute worst pain he'd ever been in. When he collapsed, Hazel caught him and they carried him to the bathroom.

Anna sat and timed his contractions, but after an hour she tapped Jacob. "We've gotta go. These are getting closer together really fast! We've gotta go now!"

Having Asher was worse than being pregnant. He felt like knives were stabbing into him, he kept throwing up and after an hour finally stopped pissing himself. He was so miserable, but Hazel and Anna cheered him on the entire time.

"Fucking Christ, when do I get to push?" He cried, grimacing as the contraction dialed down only to ramp back up again almost immediately.

Anna rubbed at his head. "Soon! You're doing such a good job!"

"Fuck, whoever did this to me is sleeping on the goddamned couch!" He snapped. "Fuck!"

Hazel sniffled hard and pulled Anna in to kiss her temple. "It's almost time, he'll be okay."

In the end, the only causality was one of Hazels fingers, and then one much bigger one.

Their doctor cheered and raised the baby up a bit. "1:39 pm." He then grinned down at their baby. "And so much hair, my stars!"

A baby was placed into Adam's arms as a rush of relief so strong it made the world seem new hit him, and immediately a new flame was born inside of him. They croaked softly, turning into his chest with a mouth wide open in a yawn before he fell asleep.

Adam was obsessed. They had jet back hair and blue eyes but not like his. Fair skin coaxed him to reach out to brush his thumbs over his hand and it opened to grab it with a strength he felt impossible for newborns to have.

The doctor smiled at them. "He's a very healthy baby boy! What do you guys want to name him?" Hazel pulled Anna into his chest as she started to sob happy tears, a startling realization that this baby was hers rocking her world. "Dad? Do you wanna name him?"

"Asher William." That was the moment he and Hazel locked eyes as tears sprung to both of theirs that changed everything. "We'll definitely be back."

Their doctor laughed. "We look forward to it. Would you like me to get your other partners?"

"Yes please."

They poked their heads in and found the three staring at the child with wide, elated eyes.

Connie squealed softly. "Oh my stars, he's got so much hair!" She waddled over and Steven followed close behind worriedly.

He took one look at the adorable child and chuckled. "He looks just like Adam."

Anna giggled. "When he opens his eyes again, yes those are my eyes." She crossed her arms playfully. "That's all I get, apparently."

The rest cautiously crowded around and Adam lifted the baby to show him cooing and mewling. "He's a talker, he's happy to be out as much as I am happy to be done being pregnant."

Jacob giggled and stroked Jasmin's stomach as she stared. "He's adorable. How was labor?"

"I threatened six nurses for trying to shove their hands up my snatch, I kept throwing up and pissing myself at the beginning, walked around a little and then felt baby drop really hard and started yelling at anyone who came near me," He recalled breathlessly. "I raised my voice at someone and you missed it."

Alex giggled. "That's a real shame." He observed Asher and sighed happily. "This is so cool."

They couldn't agree more.
