Quinlingual

Steven almost thought someone had broken into the house when he heard it. He gave the group wide eyes and a finger to his lips after Anna had pointed it out.

He stood, summoning his shield and tip toed up the stairs. There it was again, a distinct voice speaking words in a completely different language. His head of curly hair poked over and he stopped short.

Adam sat on the couch with one leg up and a phone pressed to his ear with a huge smile. "난 괜찮아, 난 그냥 내 폴리컬과 어울리고 음악을 쓰고 있어."

Steven jumped back down the stairs and stared at Anna and Hazel. "Did you know Adam can speak... Japanese?"

They looked baffled and exchanged a look.

"No?!" Anna exclaimed, jumping up and scrambling up the stairs.

"Will he ever not be an endless well of random talents and mystery?" Jacob mumbled to Connie.

"Nope."

Adam stared at all of them crowding around him and raised an eyebrow. "잠시만 기다려 주세요. 난 주목받았어." He surveyed their dropped jaws curiously. "What's up? Do you guys need something?"

"You're bilingual. We've been dating for five years, and it somehow never came up in conversation." Hazel frowned and crossed his arms. "That's so fucking cool."

Anna skipped over and stared down at the phone. "Who are you talking to?"

"Nosy." He pinched her cheek and patted his lap that she happily perched on like a throne. "Minjun. Old friend from in between high school and you guys. He's pretty cool."

"Can you speak other languages?" Connie asked with a grin. "You're fluent."

"Not really fluent so much as advanced." A bit of color reached his cheeks though, he hadn't really expected it to be such a big deal.

"But the inflections in your voice sound correct!" She argued. "That takes years to master!"

Adam shrugged casually. "I know Korean, Japanese, Spanish is my second language, French. Still working on ASL. And English, I also speak English."

They gawked at him and sat at his feet while he pulled the phone back up to his ear. "안녕, 미안해. 내 파트너들은 내가 한국어를 안다는 걸 몰랐어."

Hazel choked on a laugh. "What did you just call me?"

Adam laughed too. "Not funny. 안녕, 민준. 짧게 잘라서 미안해, 하지만 난 가야 해. 곧 다시 전화해." He paused and tilted his head as Steven zipped off into his house at light speed.

He came back with a clip in his hair, an adorable star shaped one, and sat on his ass right at his feet. "Hi."

"Hi?"

Minjun exclaimed something with a laugh, they could hear how animated he was just by his inflection. Adam readjusted Anna and drummed his fingers over her hips. "He wants us to come visit sometime. Korea is beautiful."

Jasmin smirked up at Jacob, whose face had turned an ungodly shade of red. "You wanna go to Korea, goofball?"

He tore his eyes away from Adam and nodded. "That sounds so cool." She lifted her hands to rub at his cheeks and smiled when he nuzzled in closer. "Stop making fun of my gayness."

"Unlikely."

Adam smirked. "그거 알아? 그거 멋지네, 우리가 언제 가고 싶은지 알려줄게." They said their goodbyes and he sighed heavily. "My parents had me in every language class available from a young age. Lots of shows in different languages, immersion, vacations. I like to think of myself as an accessible human being."

"우리 한국에 갈 거야?" Steven asked, scooting a bit closer as he started bouncing in place.

Hazel scoffed and nudged him with his foot. "No fucking way. Stop it. If you speak a different language, show hands so I can fucking know this!"

They giggled when Connie and Adam were the only ones to raise their hands.

It seemed they learned new things about each other every day.
