(seventeen)
As per Ryan's instructions, when the clock said it was time, Ricky left the train to go meet one of Kuza's pets. In a weird, twisted way, he felt like a husband leaving his wife and child to go to work. He'd always been addicted to the abnormal, but this was never what he envisioned when he set out to have a life different from the social norms. Whether it be his need to protect Ghost, or a newfound attachment to that little one, he did make sure to lock the door before leaving.
Knowing Chris' bedtime was in about an hour, Ghost decided to use the time while Ricky was gone to help him calm down. He let Chris pick out a book to read. The two sat in his bedroom, the lights dimmed. Ghost naturally already had a very loving, gentle voice. When he put in even more effort to be calming, his voice was like a trance. Chris could barely stay awake as he read, which was saying something considering this was one of his favorite stories.
Suddenly, a terrible screeching noise jolted them both awake. It sounded like nails on a chalkboard. Rather, nails on metal. The sound wasn't distant, either. It was internal, meaning it had to have been on the side of the train. It still hadn't stopped, and continued to drag along slowly. Finally, the terrifying, animalistic sound whisked to an end. Neither of them seemed to know what it was, but that didn't change the fact that they were utterly petrified.
Chris held on tightly to Ghost. There was a lock on the main entrance to the door, of which was the one Ricky had secured before leaving. The lock on this individual train car's door was undone, however. Ghost knew he probably should've gotten up and locked it, but his body was paralyzed in fear. He could still hear noises outsider. Whatever, or whoever was out there had yet to leave.
Heavy steps began to approach. It was faint at first, growing close at a torturous rate. The door creaked open, the shadow of a tall, ominous man appearing. His eyes glowed like a burning star behind shamrock glass. The most maniacal, hyena-like laugh broke the silence, but it wasn't from his lips. It came from behind him, belonging to a set glowing red irises.
"Oh, hush, now." Judas' sensual, deep voice spoke, "Can't you see the child was preparing to sleep?" He stepped forward, the light now illuminating his chiseled features. "I'm sorry to have given you a fright, mon cher. We came to visit on the assumption you were alone, but I see we were wrong."
The overly hyper blonde behind him finally popped out, rushing closer with no regard for personal space. He was less put together than Judas, to say the least. His long, ratty hair was tangled up in his red horns. Rush leaned into Ghost's face, studying every feature. "Who is this? Hm? Hm? Hm?"
Chris stayed clung to Ghost's side and even started to hide behind him. "My nanny." He muttered.
"Nanny?!" Rush questioned, as if it was the most ridiculous statement he'd ever heard. "Why do you need a nanny when you've got us? You know," He huffed, finally backing up a little. "I'm starting to think Ryan doesn't trust us. He never tells us when he's leaving. I mean, he'd rather poor little Chris sat here alone than let us or dad babysit. Then, he gets a nanny without even telling us."
"By now, you should know how he regards us." Judas said bitterly. He changed his mood to be more welcoming and directed his attention towards Ghost. "I apologize. We must've given you quite the scare. I promise, we won't hurt you. We just came to check on Chris because we knew Ryan left today for a few days. We're Chris' uncles. I'm Judas, and this is Rush. You'll have to excuse his hyperness." He lightly laughed.
"Uh.. Um.." Ghost was completely inaudible. How exactly is anyone expected to have a normal conversation with demons? "I- I'm Ghost."
Judas extended out his hand in an offer. His was so much larger than Ghost's, making him even more intimidating. The maiden cautiously set his hand in that of the demon's, surprised to find how delicate his touch was. He leaned over, gently kissing the back of Ghost's hand. Drawing in a sharp breath, he committed his perfume to memory.
"Your skin," He muttered, rubbing his thumb across his tattoos. Judas' eyes traveled up his arm until they landed on his face. He suddenly grabbed Ghost by the jaw and the beauty took a sharp, fearful breath. "You're like him; Half porcelain, half human flesh. But, there's no way he could've made your recently. You're far too intelligent. Where did you come from?"
Ghost was utterly petrified. He didn't know what to say, or what the right answer was. Surely if he told Judas the truth, he'd be pissed to know Ryan took in a human, but he couldn't muster a good enough lie. The truth was, he wasn't fully sure what he was anymore. If he couldn't say a confident thing to the man in the mirror, how the Hell was he going to answer the giant demon a second away from breaking his jaw?
Rush's bony, red fingers reached over Judas' shoulder as his tail wrapped around his waist. He set his hand over boyfriend's, gently guiding him away. "Now, now, now, is that any way to greet a new member of the family? Is it, now? Is it, now?" Rush put some space between Judas and Ghost. He ran his hands up the taller's chest soothingly. "Besides, besides, besides, if Ry-Ry did create Ghost, he wouldn't exactly know he was created, hm, hm, hm? Chrissy didn't know for the longest time."
His continuous repeating of words was already getting annoying. How Judas lived with that, both as a boyfriend and a brother, was a mystery. He obviously understood what Rush was trying to say, though. The point still remained, however Ghost got here, he was far too aged to have been created from scratch. Judas peered past his partner, his gaze shooting directly into Ghost's soul.
"There is only one way you could've come to have existed." Judas pushed Rush aside roughly to clearly address him. "While the child was made from porcelain and turned into flesh, Ryan followed the opposite path with you. Perhaps, he thought it was a way around father's ban on his creation of living dolls. And, maybe it was, but the fact remains that you were once human, weren't you?"
"I... I..." He swallowed the lump in his throat, "I didn't know I wasn't anymore."
"I told you, I told you, I told you!" Rush scorned like an impatient child. He hung on Judas' arm as such, too. "Let's not tell father yet! He's got so much on his plate as is."
"We'll discuss that in private. We were obviously interrupting when we intruded. So, give him what you wanted to, then we'll go."
"But, but-"
"Rush, you heard me. Don't make me drag your ass out of here." Judas threatened coldly before turning his back to them. He angrily steamed off, presumably to go wait for Rush outside.
The dirty blonde sighed to himself as he watched him go. Just like a dog, his demonic tail drooped whenever he was sad. He quickly perked back up in efforts not to show his sadness in front of Chris. Even he knew that children feed off of emotions. He creeped closer to Chris, offering the warmest smile he could manage.
"Sorry about him, Sweetie. You know how he can get. He's just a grump. But, but, but! I've got something super amazing to give you." His tail darted behind his back briefly. As it came back around his side, he now had his thin whip of tail wrapped around a silver snow globe. Rush laughed happily and took the object into his hands. He kindly offered it over to Chris. "Isn't it pretty?"
In that moment, all of Chris' fears melted away. It was always easy for him to be afraid of Rush and Judas. There was plenty of reason to be, but when they put out the effort, they could easily make him love them. Ryan's constant bitching about them often made Chris forget that he did in fact like the brothers, and he liked the affection they gave him. His eyes glistened as he reached out towards his gift. It wasn't the first time Rush had given him a snow globe, but this one was different from the others.
Chris shook it gently to make the fake snow twirl around. He looked at the two creatures inside with wonder. "What are they?" He asked.
Rush drew in an excited gasp. He was all too happy to explain to Chris. The demon took a seat beside the boy, pointing to the figures inside with his bloody red nails. "They're elephants. See, see, see, that's the mommy, and that's the baby. They're really, really, really big in real life, but they're not scary. They're very, very, very nice." He held his hands up to the side of his head, replicating their ears. "They've got big ears that they flap, flap, flap around to cool themselves off." Rush's tail peaked around and pointed to the trunk on the mother's figure. "That long thing is called a trunk. They use them for all sorts of things, and-"
His words were cut off when they all heard a loud band on the side of the train. Rush's tail lowered once again, as did the light behind his eyes. He knew that was his dearest lover urging he hurried. Why the Hell was he so insistent on their leaving? They'd actually planned to stay the night with Chris, before discovering Ghost's existence of course. It's not like they had important plans or anything.
"I'm so, so, so sorry, Sweetheart. I need to leave." Rush slowly stated. He sighed to himself, standing back up. Taking a look around, he couldn't help himself from asking, "Where's all the others I've given you?"
"Daddy took them. He put them in his workshop." Chris looked down and shook the one in his hands again carefully. "He'll probably take this one too, but I really like it. Thank you."
He didn't know how to respond. Rush didn't understand a lot of things in life. He'd always had an obsession with finding out why people do the things they do, what makes them tick, but it seems the more he looked for an answer, the more he was lost. Why did Ryan hate him so damn much? They didn't see eye to eye on everything. That he could understand, but there was no reason for him to protect Chris from him like this. He loved the child dearly.
Rush leaned forward and gave Chris a kiss on the forehead. He waved him a goodbye before hurrying out. Fuck only knows how pissed Judas already will be. Patience wasn't really his forte.
