Chapter 16| Ruby
"And that's what happened officer." I say confidently, placing a hand to my jaw. After all that talking, it has begun to ache. I'm not surprised. I told him exactly what happened in that hospital room.
All of it.
He stares at me, eyes wide and mouth agape.
"You might want to close your mouth sir." I suggest. "Don't want to catch flies."
He shakes his head. "This can't be true. I've known Thomas my whole life." He says in disbelief, looking at me differently.
I lean back in my chair, feeling confident that this will take that fucker I called a dad down. "If you want even more proof, check the security cameras for Hells Pass Hospital, room six, first floor."
The chief sighs, and stares at the hand imprint on my cheek. He can't see my bruised jaw as my hand is over it, but it's not as worse as the imprint. My dad's actual hand shape is marked on my face in red, and he probably can't get over that.
In some ways, I can't either. But I don't want to think negatively. Especially since I am so close to justice, I can almost taste it.
"I guess I have no choice but to send a car off to your house." The chief says, picking up his walkie talkie and speaking into it. I can't stop the smile from forming on my face as he speaks.
I'll finally have justice. Thomas Tucker will be thrown behind bars. Craig will be safe, and so will I. We can be free to be whoever we want to be. I can admit to getting Fs, Craig can be with Tweek and not be scared for his life. He won't have to see that dreaded Tatiana again, and I won't be judged for being friends with Ike.
"Okay Ruby, you and two of my finest officers are going to get into a car, and go off to your house." The chief tells me.
"I get to ride in a police car?" He nods. "That's so cool!"
I not only get to see my dad restrained, but I get to ride in a police car too? Can this day get any better?
The chief leads me out of his office, were two police officers are stood waiting. They're equipped with batons, guns and pepper spray. One is a dark female with braided hair, the other a pale skinned man with dark hair.
"Okay Ruby, this is Officer Brewin." He points to the man. "And this is Officer Walt." He points to the woman. "You'll be traveling to your house with them."
I raise my hand in greeting. "Hi." I can tell they're both staring. They look from the blood soaked bandage, the jaw bruise and finally to the hand imprint. "My dad did this." I clarify, motioning to my injures and they both quietly nod.
"Come with us to the car." Officer Walt tells me. She smiles, but it's one of pity. It makes me want to tell her I'm not a person to be pitied. That I'm strong, and that I'm going to make sure my dad goes away for this.
Her pitiful smile makes me want to hit her.
As we walk to the car, Officer Brewin doesn't speak once. However, Officer Walt attempts to start a conversation with me, multiple times. I know she's trying to be kind, but right now, I'm not exactly in the mood to discuss how I style my hair.
They allow me to sit in the back seat of the car. The seats are comfy leather, and in comparison to the hospital beds feel like heaven. They smell nice too.
The ride is relatively short, and the small talk has turned into a dull silence. I watch the houses wiz by out of the car window, wishing that the two would put the radio on. I'm not going to lie, the tension in the car is ruining my mood.
I'm actually thankful when they pull up outside my house.
However, I regret the feeling when I see the scene outside my house. Tweek is stood between Craig and my dad, looking up at dad with a fierce stance and gaze in his eyes. Tweek shouts something which I don't hear, I only see his mouth move. Dad then whips his arm back, fist clenched as he slams it into Tweek's cheek. This makes the blonde's head snap to the side, and to stumble slightly. Yet he steadies himself, and still stands in front of his boyfriend.
Officer Walt jumps out of the car along with Officer Brewin. I quickly follow them, lagging behind a little so dad won't turn on me. Officer Brewin stands beside Tweek as dad readies for another punch, only to have Officer Walt grab his first and twist his arm.
Dad yells out, and begins to struggle. His amber eyes scan the area, and land on me. I gulp. He thrashes in the officer's arms, attempting to get to me.
"You fucking brat! You snitch! I'm going to kill you!" He screams, and thrashes more. He whacks Officer Walt in the chin, making her let go.
My breath hitches as he stands, and I feel myself frozen. However, a spot of blood lands onto my dad's cheek, making his attention turn away from me.
"Oh no!" Tweek gasps dramatically, a trickle of blood running from the corner of his mouth. "Be careful asshole, being gay is contagious! You can catch it from my blood!"
Tweek's eyes are mocking, and he stands confidently beside Craig. Craig stares at him with wide eyes.
That's when the sirens sound out. They're loud and ear piercing. Cars surround the house, and pretty soon a crowd forms. Officer Brewin, Officer Walt and four other officers manage to pounce on dad as he tries to grab Tweek. They hold him to the ground, his face in the dirt.
Tweek bends down to his level, clearly taking up another chance to mock him. He points down at the dirt. "Does that taste good?"
This causes dad to yell once again, and thrash. However, I don't get chance to see the rest of the scene unfold as arms wraps around the back of me, and someone with a load of hair buries their face in my neck.
Confused, I say the first name that comes to mind.
"Karen?" I then look down at the arms around my waist. Karen never was one to paint her nails black and wear long sleeves black shirts. "Firkle?"
"No." Firkle says, still hugging me.
"I thought we weren't friends." I say, but I'm smiling.
"Shut up, you cursed, emo conformist." He mumbles into my neck. He lets go, and stands in front of me.
"Ike and Karen were not with you?" As I ask the question, a feel a hand slip into my mine. I immediately recognise it as Karen's.
"We were with him," Ike says, clearly out of breath. "But he's a faster runner than us."
I stare at Firkle and Ike with wide eyes. Ike is bent over, coughing now. Firkle hesitantly moves his hand into Ike's back, and pats it in an attempt to help him. "You guys ran here?"
"Well," Ike stands straight, wiping his eyes. "We saw the sirens, and immediacy thought the worst."
I smile, touched that my friends care so much. I then glance at Ike and Firkle.
"Why were you two hanging out?" I ask, smirking. Ike's eyes widen, and he flushes. Firkle also flushes, and looks down at his shoes.
"It was me who did it!" Karen smiles. "I asked Ike to go to the mall with me, he agreed. I asked Firkle, he said no until I offered to give him money to buy cigarettes."
"You sneaky match maker." I smile at her, squeezing her hand.
She smiles deviously.
Firkle opens his mouth to say something, only he is interrupted by my dad being dragged past us in handcuffs. He looks at me, sneers, then sees me holding Karen's hand.
"Not my daughter too! Why are all the Tucker children fags?!" He screams to himself.
I don't tell my dad that I am in fact straight, because if it makes him unhappy to think all the Tucker youth, me, Red and Craig, are gay, so be it.
Craig looks over at me, his eyes shining with curiosity. I decide to approach my brother, to hug him.
I don't give out hugs often.
When I approach him, Craig hugs me before I can hug me. It's an awkward hug, since we don't hug often. Plush, he's like a giant compared to me. I'm awkwardly pressed into his chest, but I don't care. When we break apart, he speaks first.
"Are you actually gay?" Craig asks, Tweek snorts at the awkward way Craig asked the question.
"No. I'm not." I shake my head.
"That would be really strange." Tweek comments. "All the Tucker kids being gay."
"I guess I'm the exception."
"Aw, you can have biological babies." Tweek aws. I glare at him.
"Tweek, you don't have to hide from me that your fertile! Make sure to use protection Craigster." I use the old nickname, making Craig shake his head.
"Leave." I laugh, but leave to my friends anyway.
"Hey Ruby, how does it feel to be free of your father?" Karen asks as Ike and Firkle settle into an argument.
"Fan-fucking-tastic." I sigh happily, and Karen smiles.
