He can join our 'We hate Tony Stark'-club
"I suggest you get used to the crotches because you'll be using them for a while," Dr Collins informed.
"You always know just how to cheer me up," Lana said with an eye roll, accepting the doctor's assistance in getting the crutches to the correct height for her; "When can I go home?"
"As soon as the paperwork is done, miss Williams. A few hours, until tonight tops," Dr Collins assured. Lana sighed before thanking the doctor for her help and being left alone. She placed the crutches slightly in front of her, using them to assist her further. Feeling as if she was getting the hang of it, she used one to push the door open before leaving for the hallway. Right outside her room, two armed guards stood, and she greeted them politely.
"Where's Leonardo and Donatello?" she asked curiously, well aware that there up that point had been four guards at all times. Raphael, as she'd named one of the agents too professional to even admit to a name nodded down the hallway, and Lana turned around.
"Sarah?" She exclaimed loudly; "William?"
"Oh my god, there you are!" Sarah stated, trying to pass Leonardo, who stepped in her way.
"It's okay, they're friends!" Lana assured, quickly humping towards them.
"We're under strict order to not let anyone unauthori-"
"And now you're under new orders," Lana interrupted, pairing the command with a stern look at the guard, who stepped aside. Sarah was the first to swing her arms around Lana and William followed, all three smiling like idiots.
"You look like all kinds of hell, love!" William told, his voice sounding exactly like the reminder of home Lana needed.
"Why thank you! I like your new haircut," she complimented, holding both crutches with one hand so she could ruffle his brown hair. It was longer since the last time she'd seen him, and his curls were impossible to ignore.
"How did you guys find me?" she asked cheerily.
"Wasn't all that hard, actually," Will told; "I made a program that mapped every place the avengers or anything related to them was mentioned on social media."
"And here we thought we were flying under the radar!" Lana laughed.
"You were, but there were a few mentions of you here, people claiming to have seen your dad, and it was the only hospital where that was the case," he exclaimed with a shrug.
"The armed guards were a hint, too," Sarah added with a laugh before asking about everything that had happened after Lana had returned to New York. She answered all their questions patiently as she led them into her hospital room and offered them to sit. William sat on the chair and Sarah next to Lana on the bed, the talk eventually turning into a game of poker with the deck of cards William had gotten Lana, thinking she was probably bored.
"This all seems incredibly surreal. I mean, I get why you had to leave England, but suddenly you're an agent of shield?" Sarah commented, moving a card in her hand.
"Not really an agent per se, I just kind of advice and consult," Lana explained, tossing another two jello's onto the makeshift table. They had sorted the puddings and given them values according to colour. The red equalled a black chip because Lana liked that one the best.
The door opened and they all looked up to see Bucky frozen in the door.
"Oh, guys, this is Bucky. He helped save me," Lana quickly introduced, waving him in. Bucky eyed her friends unsurely but stepped far enough in to allow the door to close behind him.
"This is Sarah and William, they're visiting from England," Lana continued, trying to calm Bucky with a smile.
"I'm sorry, I have to ask," William said, breathing out as if he'd been holding his breath; "I've seen so many videos analysing that arm, do you really have as much control over it as they say?"
Bucky didn't reply, instead, he looked at Lana. She pointed discreetly at herself, Bucky nodding almost unnoticeably.
"Generally speaking he does," she explained after getting his approval; "It's kind of malfunctioning at the moment."
"What? How the bloody hell does something like that break?" William questioned stunned.
"Turns out being pushed out of a plane will do that," Bucky told darkly, seemingly beginning to trust the two strangers to not attack.
"You were pushed out of a plane?" Sarah asked weirdly.
"He and my father aren't really getting along," Lana told her with a grimace, Sarah just nodded.
"He can join our 'We hate Tony Stark'-club," she suggested lightly, Lana smiling slightly. Neither Sarah nor Will had even met her father, but they were fully prepared to loathe him based on the few things they knew. Lana had always been discrete about her family and upbringing. Not secretive per se, it wouldn't take much googling to find out Tony Stark had a practically estranged daughter, but she had never been interesting enough to make any headlines, and she had hardly even been in any papers since she was never seen with her father. Still, she'd never told a lot about her father, or anything about her weekends and school breaks in America. Once you caught the attention of the media it was hard to lose, and disclosing facts about Tony Stark would be sure to get the medias attention.
"Well, it sounds like it should be a relatively easy fix," William commented thoughtfully; "It's probably just not shock resistant enough for a fall like that, I bet the wires just got intertwined and a bit messed up."
"William studied mechanical engineering at MIT," Lana told Bucky, who just nodded slightly. Truth be told, Lana wasn't sure he knew what MIT or even mechanical engineering was, but he read the way she said the words and got the gist of it.
"Doesn't really matter if it's an easy fix, Lana's dad is a jerk and probably won't even fix it if he doesn't like the poor sod," Sarah commented, gathering the playing cards in her hand. Bucky's eyebrow raised a millimetre at the girl. He didn't remember the last time anyone had seen him as any sort of victim besides Steve. How could he be both the victim and the assailant?
"If you want I can take a look at it," William offered, neither he nor Sarah picking up Bucky's shifting thoughts; "If it's more than I can handle I'll just close it up again and you can wait 'til Mr Jerkdad changed his mind."
Bucky glanced at Lana, who shrugged but nodded slightly. It was up to him, but he could trust William. Without a word, Bucky grabbed the arm and tore it off, placing it on Lana's bed before leaving without a word.
William looked shocked at the arm, while Sarah looked shocked at the door he'd left through.
"He can be a bit unique, but he's a great guy," Lana assured. William looked at the arm, carefully turning it over to see the screws.
"I'm gonna need some tools for this, but it's pretty standard. They should have them at any hardware store around," William told, getting up and promising to return quickly.
"Want a jello?" Lana offered as she grabbed one; "The red are the best."
"How did you get all these anyway?" Sarah asked as she scooped jellos away from the bed so she could sit directly next to Lana, who squirmed a little to get the pillow further out from under her back so they could share it. She grabbed a red one for herself, pulling the lid off.
"Bucky stole them for me," Lana told, handing her friend a spoon.
"That's so cute," Sarah commented, grinning as she stabbed the jello with the spoon.
"Not really, he just did it to shut me up," Lana told with a shrug.
"If you say so," Sarah muttered.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Lana asked, looking at Sarah.
"Nothing!" she quickly claimed; "Why doesn't your dad like him, anyway?"
"Not sure. Something about a shared past," Lana told, not caring all that much about whatever it was.
"But you're mad at Daddy Stark, and the fact that he doesn't like Bucky only makes him hotter," Sarah stated matter-of-factly, eyeing her pudding hungrily.
"What? What are you talking about, that's crazy!" Lana claimed quickly.
"Oh c'mon," Sarah laughed; "You can't claim you haven't noticed. He's hot."
"He's old!" Lana corrected; "And gross!"
"He's not gross," Sarah scoffed before shrugging. "He's just kind of grimed up good. He did the opposite of a glow up, and he absolutely nailed it. He's like Henry Cavill in the witcher."
"Then you take him," Lana said annoyed; "And take him far away from me, preferably!"
"You're saying you really don't find him attractive?" Sarah teased.
"I'm saying that he's... Old. And gross. And shut up," she added before laughing.
