Wake Up, Sunshine

Soft yellow. It was the only colour the two boys could see as the sunshine filtered through their apartment window onto their closed eyelids. The taller of the two, Jack, sat up and stretched tiredly before shaking his boyfriend Alex awake.

"Alex! You've gotta wake up, I'm making pancakes, wanna help?" Jack said, hovering over Alex as the shorter groaned.

"Good morning to you too, Jack, and yeah, sure, I'll help. Pancake time?"

"Pancake time." Jack picked Alex up bridal-style and ran the both of them into the kitchen, giggling all the way.

After they made and ate their pancakes, which included getting flour absolutely everywhere, they had to clean up their mess.

"Hey Lexy, let's go for a walk!" Jack exclaimed, after the kitchen was finally clean. "I'll be a dog!" To prove his point, he shifted into a big, fluffy Golden Retriever.

"Alright, fine, lemme just grab my shoes and jacket real quick, then we can go." Alex opened the door, and Jack bounded outside wagging his tail happily. "Woah, calm down, are you trying to break your tail or something?" He giggled, stepping out and closing the door behind him. "Let's go to the park, shall we?"

They set off down the road to a small grassy park where people often took their dogs. Once they arrived, Jack took off, almost immediately gaining the attention of a group of children, most of whom toddled up to him to pet him. Alex shook his head amusedly at his boyfriend's antics before settling down on a bench to browse his Instagram. He didn't notice the dark-clothed man emerging from an alleyway.

The man cautiously approached Jack, before squatting down to give him a scratch behind the ear and feed him a treat, which the shapeshifter eagerly accepted, as he was hungry.

After the man left, Jack trotted up to Alex, tongue lolling from his mouth as he nudged the distracted boy's leg with his nose. "Wha- oh, hey, you wanna go home already?" Alex said, standing up. Jack nodded, bouncing up and down. "Alrighty then, if you insist!"

They soon arrived at their apartment building, unlocking the door and walking into the foyer, where Jack tried to shift back into a human. He failed, so he tried again. And again. And again, failing each time. He was getting desperate, pushing himself to his limits, but alas, he stayed a dog.

"I'm gonna go look for a way to change you back, alright?" Alex said, panicked, as he sprinted to their bookshelf. He pulled an old dusty tome from the top shelf, flicking erratically through the pages in a frenzied attempt to find a potion, an incantation, anything to restore his beloved to his human form. Finally, near the middle of the book, he found a spell. A spell so complicated it would require a duo of wizards to complete, which hadn't been used in centuries. It was their only hope, and luckily, the two shapeshifters knew exactly who to go to. Their friends, Zack and Rian.

A/N: My first fic that isn't a oneshot! I'm rather proud of it so far, actually.
