Chapter 22 - "Work Something Out"

Michael came back to the room a few minutes later. Louis was sitting right beside me by then, and both of the babies were in bassinets. Michael walked in and stood beside me and in front of Louis.

"Haven, I love you so much, so so much. That's the only reason why I'm in here. Also, my son is here. He's beautiful, and I'm glad we have him together, but I have no idea how we're going to do with having both my child and Louis's child," Michael looked me straight in the eyes the whole time he was talking.

"I know, Michael. I'm really sorry about this whole situation. There's one thing about this, though. Since I've been spending more time with Louis-" Michael spoke before I was finished.

"Behind my back," he cut in.

"Yes, behind your back, and I'm sorry abut that. But now that we've been spending more time together, I love Louis in ways that I can't explain, and I love you in other ways that I don't know how to describe. I'm so confused right now because I love both of you and I don't want to hurt either of your feelings."

"Haven, I hate to do it, but I need you to choose between us. It's either me or Louis. I'm sorry," Michael crossed his arms.

"Michael, I have a baby with both of you. I love both of you. Sure, my relationship with Louis started of by being just sex, but since we've spent more and more time together, it's grown to more than that. My relationship with you has always been more than just sex. I know things are different with you than when I'm with Louis, and I know that things are different with Louis than when I'm with you. I just can't decide between the two of you."

"Haven, I can't believe you're doing this to me," he sighed.

"I can't believe you're doing this to me! Making me choose between the two of you!" I exclaimed.

"The answer should be obvious. Who have you spent more of your life with? Who has been there for you when you needed help? Who has always been right by your side through thick and thin? Who was ready to start a family with you, even if you didn't think you were ready yet? Who have you told all of your secrets to? Who was going to propose to you until he found out about this situation?" He began to cry, and he turned away from me. He walked out of the door with his hand grabbing something out of his right pocket that looked like a box. I felt terrible, and I was shocked.

"Louis," I cried, "What do I do?"

"Haven, do what your heart tells you to do. If you want to marry him, marry him. I'm not going to hold you back. If you want more time to think, don't say yes to him yet. But most importantly, wait until he's ready to actually propose before you tell him your answer. You want to let him think this all through, and if he's ready to ask you properly, go ahead and tell him your answer."

"Thank you, Louis," I smiled but sighed, turning my head away. Why did this have to be so complicated?

I began to think about my answer. I was so confused. I didn't know what to do. I knew that I would have to do this someday, ever since that first time with Louis. I had no idea how I'd choose between the two. I tried making a pros and cons list, but I ended up with the exact same number of pros and cons for each of them.

Louis put his hand on mine, and I turned towards him once more. He looked into my eyes and told me, "I know this is hard for you, and I feel really bad about that. If you want me to, I can talk to Michael and figure something out. I can't stand to see you like this. Do you want me to talk to Michael and work something out?"

"Yes, please," I nodded, sniffling. I wasn't sure of what he meant by "work something out," but I just wanted things to be better.

As Louis walked out, Michael's parents and my parents walked in. They saw Kiersten and Ryder lying in their bassinets. My mum asked if she could hold one of them, and I told her she could. She picked up Ryder, and my family awed over him. Karen asked also, and I allowed her to, but she picked up Kiersten.

"My beautiful granddaughter," she smiled, holding Kiersten close to her in her arms.

"What are their names?" Daryl asked. I bit my lip, and I was worried they'd all get mad at me.

"This is Ryder Dylan Clifford," I pointed to mum who was holding Ryder, then announced Kiersten's name while pointing to her, "and that is Kiersten Charlotte Tomlinson." I looked right at them, fearing their reactions.

"W-Why are the last names different?" Karen wondered, "Why is she not a Clifford?"

"Because Michael isn't her father," I said quietly.

"Then who is? Louis?" Daniel asked, looking at me sternly as if he was my father, and he was getting mad.

"Yes," I nodded, and I began to cry another time. I had already lost count of how many times I cried that day.

My parents got mad at me, but they accepted the fact and that it couldn't be changed. Michael's parents realized that their only grandchild was Ryder, not Kiersten after I explained how something like that happened.

"Louis and Michael are talking in the waiting room. I don't know what they're talking about. Louis said he would 'work something out,' but I'm not sure what he means with that. Michael said he was going to propose until he found out about this situation.." I revealed to our families. They gasped, and some got excited.

"But I'm not sure what will happen.." I sighed, which brought their excitement down some too. This was so complicated.
