Silence

Hope you like!  I kind of leaned a bit away from cannon unlike my last story.  Just a little bit.  It made me sad while writing.  Thanks to @Pi-Master who gave me some ideas while we were talking about fanfiction in her room.  (She's my sister.)  Enjoy!!

"Auto Destruct in eight minutes." The mechanical voice of the library's computer said. River Song looked down at The Doctor's unconscious body that she had just handcuffed to a rail moments ago. He was so young. Too young by River's liking. He didn't know who she was, and that had broken her hearts, just like she had told her father it would. Putting on a strong face, River started to connect the wires that would be the cause of her death.

The wheezing and groaning sound of the TARDIS filled the room. A young man with a bow tie and tweed jacket came running out .

"River." He breathed. Her name. Just her name. Any yet it held so many emotions, and feelings that were too hard to put into words.

"Hello Sweetie." River replied, tears already threatening to spill. The Doctor, her Doctor was here. He looked around at the pile of wires laying on the floor, waiting to be connected.

"It's time isn't it." The Doctor's voice cracked.

"You knew." River said quietly. "All this time, you've known how this ends. How I end." The Doctor looked down, ashamed by himself.

"I- I couldn't bring myself to tell you." He stated, grief and sorrow written on the plains of his face. River stroked his cheek lovingly. The couple locked eyes. Slowly, evey so slowly, The Doctor leaned in to kiss her.

It was like fireworks at the end of a war. Both joy from seeing her love here, and sadness that this would be her last kiss. The feelings were mixed together with love. River broke away first, straightening his bowtie.

"I have to get to work." She said while walking towards the jumble of wires. The Doctor grabbed her hand.

"Let me help, too."

"There's nothing like helping your spouse prepare for death." River said, though she was grateful for her husband's help. A single tear came out of The Doctor's eye.

"River Song. Melody Pond. River, my River." Together, the husband and wife connected the wires (with a little help from The Doctor's sonic screwdriver) in less that three minutes.

"Auto Destruct in four minutes." The computer said.

"You should go. You'll be waking up soon and you shouldn't even be here. You're changing time."

"I don't care." The Doctor said rebelliously, wanting to be with his wife in her final moments.

His past self stirred. River looked from doctor to doctor. "Leave. Now."

"No. I'm not leaving you River." The Doctor looked scared and vulnerable, like he never had before. "I can't."

His past selves eyes were starting to flutter open.

"Auto Destruct in two minutes."

"Shut up! SHUT UP!" The Doctor yelled angrily at the computer. Angrily, he pulled out his sonic screwdriver and tried to disable the voice on the computer.

"Oh no. Oh, no, no, no. Come on, what are you doing? That's my job." A voice from the other side of the room said, panicked.

Both River and The Doctor froze.

"You have to go." She stated. "Now."

The Doctor grabbed his wife by her shoulders and looked her in the eye. "I'm not going to leave you."

By this time, The Doctor's past self was wide awake. He blinked in confusion, not knowing what to make of the strange man who was with River.

"Oh, Doctor." River leaned in to kiss him passionately. Slyly, she pulled out a pair of handcuffs, and, while he was distracted, handcuffed him to the railing, right next to his past self.

"River, what are you doing?"

She pulled out her vortex manipulator that was hidden underneath her sleeve. She quickly typed in coordinates and put it on her husband's wrist. The Doctor was struggling and trying to dodge River.

"River, you can't! What about my TARDIS? What about you?"

"TARDIS? How does he have a TARDIS?" The Doctor's past self said.

River ignored The Doctor's past self and continued to try to stop the struggling Doctor.

"Don't...." He whispered, tears clouding his eyes. River squeezed her eyes shut; she didn't want him to see her cry. Taking a deep breath, she looked at The Doctor. They had been through so much together. The Silence, Manhattan, Lake Silencio, The Byzantium. . .

"I have to. You know what will happen if I live. I'll send you your TARDIS. I'm going to send you to the Ponds'- a we- week before you would have come to bring them to Manhattan." River's voice broke as she spoke. Quickly, she ran to The Doctor's TARDIS and sent it to a new destination.

"River: Please, you don't have to." The Doctor pleaded in vane.

"Auto Destruct in one minute."

"River, not yet. I- I'm not ready. I can't let you go."

River smiled sadly, putting a finger to his lips. "It's okay." She whispered. "I feel better knowing I saved you." She laughed softly, but the Doctor didn't.

"River... I.. I lo-"

"Don't worry. You'll see me again. With a new face. . .Goodbye, Sweetie." She pressed the vortex manipulator on her husband's wrist and watched him disappear without a trace. He was safe.

"River, you can't do this." The past Doctor said. River jumped. She had forgotten that he was here, watching.

"Funny thing is, this means you've always known how I was going to die. All the time we've been together, you knew I was coming here. The last time I saw you, the real you, the future you, I mean, you turned up on my doorstep, with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Darillium to see the Singing Towers. What a night that was. The Towers sang, and you cried."

"Was- was that me with you just a moment ago?" The past Doctor looked at her urgently. River ignored him. The past Doctor tried a different tactic. "River. You knew my name."

"Auto Destruct in ten." The computer said.

"You whispered my name in my ear."

"Auto Destruct in nine seconds."

"There's only one reason I would ever tell anyone my name. There's only one time that I could."

"Hush now." River said soothingly. She thought back to the time that she had met her Doctor for the first time. He had looked at her in shock. And pain. Like he had seen something bad happen to her. And now, she knew why.

"Eight, Seven, Six."

"If you die here, it'll mean that I've never met you."

"Time can be rewritten." The past Doctor said.

"Not those times. Don't you dare," Memories of Lake Silencio flooded her mind. A single tear spilled out, unwillingly, from her eye. "It's okay. It's okay. It's not over for you. You'll see me again. You've got all that to come. You and me, time and space. You watch us run."

"Five, Four, Three,"

"River-"

"Shhhh. Spoilers." River whispered, cutting The past Doctor off again.

"Two,"

It was alright. She would see her parents again- she could see The Doctor again, though it would take time.

"One," Melody Pond connected the two wires. And all went white.

. . .

"Doctor- Doctor? What's wrong?" Amelia Pond asked, seeing a crying doctor leaning on the TARDIS.

"It's nothing, Pond." He wiped his tears with the sleeve of his tweed jacket.

"Yes it is Doctor, I know it's important." Amy said while bring him into a hug.

"Spoilers." Was all that her best friend whispered.
