Red Bicycle When You Where Twelve
Inspired by a pin from Pinterest. Allons-y!
Yay for 11:03 pm inspirations!
Even though it was well past midnight in the Tyler household, Jackie Tyler was sitting at the kitchen table, pouring over bills and taxes. Her blonde hair was in a high ponytail, and her reading glasses were perched low on her nose.
"Mum?" Twelve year old Rose stood in the doorway of the kitchen, class in pajamas and a sleepy look in her eyes. Jackie looked up from her work.
"Rose. I told you to go sleep hours ago!"
"Couldn't sleep," her daughter started bluntly. With a sigh, she walked over to her mother and sat down next to her, eying the many papers strewn out in the vicinity. "You don't have to get me a Christmas gift, you know. " Rose knew that money was tight these days.
"Of course I'll get you something for Christmas!" Jackie said, though deep down, she knew it wasn't possible. "Go back to bed, Rose. When you wake up I the morning, you'll have something for Christmas. I promise."
After Jackie made sure that Rose was in bed, she went back to counting their money. She glanced mournfuly at the decorated Christmas tree. A tree with no gifts underneath it. Jackie was shaken from her thoughts when she heard the doorbell buzz.
"What the. . . ?" She thought aloud as she walked twords the door. When she opened it, a red bicycle stood, leaning against the entry of her apartment. A note was tapped on the handle, written in messy, loopy handwriting.
She's going to be fantastic
There was no signature, just those five words. As quietly as she could, Jackie pulled the bicycle into the living room and placed it gingerly under the tree. Boy, was Rose going to be surprised when she saw that gift.
When Jackie went to bed, she didn't even think about who had left the bicycle. When she made to close the window blinds, she could've sworn she saw a blue box disappear into the dark winter night.
